Original description:

The finest violinist alive, Dionysus is a hometown hero in the small town of Anlir. His being arrested for association with rebels coincided with the start of the troubles in Anlir, roughly, & he spent a few months in Aldergast Prison, despite rumors that he had been executed. When the party was arrested, someone powerful bribed the Key-Keeper to lock them up with Dionysus, thus effectively allowing them to escape.

Dionysus is a harpling, a type of music-based halfling. He can pick up any instrument & know how to play it within a week. Given a few months or a year or so & he can become a master with that instrument. While all harplings have this ability to some degree, Dionysus is the best anyone's ever seen at it. Halflings all have the innate skill to taunt an enemy into a rage, a skill they use to keep larger foes from thinking straight. Harplings translate this skill into music, using their musical skills to affect the moods of others. Because of this, Dionysus knows purely tonal songs that can calm nerves, ease pain, confuse, enrage, make people at ease with him, or fill the susceptible with fear. Belizo taught him the killing song as well.

He learned music from the same master as Bartleby the Rogue, but took the path of patronized composer over popular musician. Since then, he has been a music teacher to nobility, a composer of over 30 symphonies, concertos, & other works, & a fixture at high class celebrations. His contributions to music have been documented elsewhere, but his most recent work was to quit composing & set out as a popular musician. Since then, he has been finding work as a forefather of the New School movement, despite the fact that his body of work is strictly the traditional songbook of old school popular musicians.

It is rumored that he is stone deaf.

    • A finer performer I've never seen. His stage presence is a talent he should better cultivate. If I had my hearing, I would discuss this with him, but for now, I don't feel able to articulate my ideas as well

    • Improvisation is his real talent, on & off stage, but he is reckless. He reminds me of Paul in his angrier moments, of Albert in his lighter ones, but you can also see Damon's influence in there

    • A true musician. His work combining his roots with popular music is inspiring. His new power with his Gift is a boon to us

    • His compositions are complex & brilliant, and his apparent respect for me endearing. His powers can be terrifying, but his dedication to our mission soothes my worries

    • Her understanding of emotion leads her, whether she knows it or not, to create some of the most passionate music, judging from what I've read. If I could hear it... Her emotional trauma & her identity crisis is hopefully past, and she has my sympathies. Sometimes, her emotional drive puts me in mind of Matrim

    • Such a brutal transformation has not destroyed who he is inside. His talent for music is overshadowed by his unique being. I respect him, and I sense he could be perhaps greater than any other member of the band one day

    • A good drummer is the solid backbone of a popular band, and the underlying thunder of an orchestra. Magnum serves as both.

    • She is a reflection of Aurelia. Her talent at music, her emotional understanding, all of it are overshadowed by her concern for her daughter.

    • It has been over 20 years since I was second fiddle to someone. It will be good to travel with him, and he will make an excellent addition to the band.

    • Cold, distant, she's almost like a backwards version of Aurelia--poetic, hard to pierce her outer shell, but unattached as opposed to emotionally driven.

    • Her idealistic interest in Avery seems to have lessened now that she has gotten a real taste of being in a band--I suspect it was her yearning to see the world being projected on the poor lad. She seems to be railing against her lack of control.

    • His goal will destroy him, unless he removes the Devil's curse. Suicidal, melancholy. A romantic, tragic figure--what he needs is a wake up call, or he will destroy himself.

    • Her departure was sad, sudden. I hope she is well, wherever she is.

    • A true hero. His passion for music was admirable, & the neglect his talent sees because of his duties saddens me.

    • With some solid guidance, Paul is the finest servant of justice in Maraddon. He is a true friend, and it warms me to know he'll leave a light on for me

    • Though not the finest student of music I ever had, he is certainly the greatest man I've known. His work to rid the world of oppression is mirror to the connections one makes with music.
