Traditionally, Dayrum would be consort of the Lady of the Nine Circles, Queen of All Succubi, but she, being a demoness, sought other partners. Jealous and petty, Dayrum decided to invade her Hellish territories. In doing so, he found himself up against not just her, but three of her other partners, including the First Neron and the Blackthorn. He spent much in this invasion, buying power from the Devil and others, and ended up owing everything to the Devil, and earning nothing new in the Hells--in truth, he lost most of his territory.

Desperate for new power, he turned again to the Devil, who offered him a deal: he join Rex's small court, and he could take whatever he earned in the process. If he did so, all debts to the Devil would be paid. Not seeing the catch (and likelihood of his demise, he readily agreed).
