Patchwork Portrait - A song describing the band as Avery sees them. It incorporates both how he views each band member and what he saw with his soul-sight when looking at them, in musical expression. Each member has their own part, played with their favored instrument with Avery on pennywhistle. Jack's section has, in addition, a vocal duet for him and Little Wing. In between the sections, all the main themes are combined together into the main song, with an added theme of warmth and togetherness, of family. In Progress. [][][][][][][][][][][

• Parts/themes
  • Arlie: Loud, boisterous, unpredictable...eventful. The music here is fast and upbeat, likely half improvised as they go. At one point it falls to a very soft, slow almost dirge-like melody, then picks right back up again after about a bar. It has an almost big-brotherly feel to it.
  • Jack: Almost majestic, but with a definite air of playing for the music. The vocal duet with Little Wing in the middle carries the tone of child and father talking. Little Wing's part, while childlike, carries the air of what can only be described as 'worldliness,' combining elements from many different ethnic styles [those that Avery is or has become familiar with, at least.]
  • Sue: Very mysterious, but blending with the others well. Manny's theme is also mysterious, but with a darker tone, subtly dangerous.
  • Arsul: The cello leads and Avery follows in harmony on pennywhistle, as though being led down a path. The music is benevolent, almost grandfatherly in tone. Safe. Hunny's theme is an undercurrent of strength in the overall sound.
  • Aurelia: Beautiful and flowing, gentle, almost soothing, but with a subtle hardness and strength to the tone. In parts it carries a softly dangerous tone, but as such a part of the overall sound that it fits somehow and just adds to the beauty of it. Kashaji's theme is one of strength and safety.
  • Dionysus: Similar to Jack's in an almost majestic tone, but lighter and more laid-back. Very understated. Still with a noted tone of respect, but it still sounds as though it's being played just to play.
  • Magnum: A strong, capable, rhythmic section, with hints of something else unnamed in its depths.
  • Avery: His part is lighthearted and playful, full of his own Kearin style but with an almost stately base, alternating between guitar and pennywhistle. As with Dionysus and Jack's, it has a definite feel of being played solely to play, but it also has a slight touch of the ethereal to it. It contains elements from all the other parts as well, building on them, as though getting support from them.

Relationships:

The Band

• Member of the Sound and the Fury
  • Side man, back up singer, left hand man to Jack Crane
• The band - They're my family. I will do anything to help them, even if I absolutely loathe the idea. I screwed things up, though, let everyone down. And now I have to fix it. Somehow.
  • Jack: My best friend. What he did with that concert was amazing...I never would have thought, when I first met him, that he'd come out like this. but I'm proud to call him frien-no. Family. My closest brother.
    • Little Wing: Cute kid. He's been good for Jack. He's kinda like a kid brother...as weird as it is to say that about a dog-faced bird...
  • Arlie: Kind of the older brother I never had. Trustworthy in a pinch, I'd rather have Arlie at my back than ten Torches. Praise from him means a lot to me. I let him down majorly, but I hope he'll forgive me in time...I'll try to prove myself worthy of it, somehow. I need to ask his advice more and stop letting my pride keep me from asking for help.
    • Morgana: A very interesting bird. I'm glad she's on our side.
    • The Toy: I don't think it means any harm. it just doesn't know when to stop. Deal with caution, but try not to take things /too/ seriously...a bit like Arlie when he's drunk, really, only taken to extremes.
  • Arsul: Kind of an uncle or grandfather. he's a good guy, and a good friend. I trust his visions. I hope he'll pull through the loss of his brother alright...if anyone could it's Arsul.
    • Hunny: Really glad she's on our side, after seeing her in fights. She makes me feel safer.
  • Sue: Weird little cuss, but a good guy. Not sure what happened on the Plains of Serenity, but he hasn't really been the same since then...though what happened with Banner looks to have been good for him. I'm glad.
    • Manny: He was kinda scary...I hate to admit it, but I'm a little glad he's gone.
  • Aurelia: I love her, like a sister if not closer. She's very important to me. I promised to take care of her. She taught me to see beauty in all things, wherever possible. A comforting presence. She's gone now, with her husband, her True Love. Part of me is sad it wasn't me, could really never have been me - I never could have made her that happy - but I am glad she will never be apart from him.
    • Kashaji: He's still with us, a reminder of his mistress. I'm glad to have him. She doesn't seem as gone, with him around.
  • Magnum: Like an older brother. Dependable. I trust him more than I do Arlie, sometimes.
  • Leia - I never told her of my feelings, but I hope we can one day meet again. If...when we do, I'll tell her everything. I love her, even through all this, and I always will.
  • Bartleby - A good friend, and a decent example. I miss him, but of all the ways to lose a friend...a brother...this was the best. They will be together always, and that will make them both happy.
    • the Fox: He's a cute little guy. I'll take care of him as long as he wants to stay with me.
  • Leonas - I...don't really know what to think about his death, except that he chose it himself. He knew what would happen, and apparently that's what he wanted, so...
  • Tomerane - Kind of intimidating, but good to have around. I understand her a lot better now than I ever did before, and I'm glad she's still with us.

The Army

• The army - My first command. Ever. They follow me, even though they don't know me...I have a responsibility to keep them as safe as I can, direct their efforts to where they're needed...I'm just not sure how to. But whether I like it or not...whether I'm ready or not, I'm a leader now. I'm not sure I'll ever be...
  • Flower Pot and the Green Children: The first to offer their assistance, and really some of the first faeries I've ever met aside from Rumbleford. I feel responsible for them.
  • Pan and the Satyrs: Some of Banner's people who offered their aid in the Fields of Mirth. A jolly bunch...they remind me of Arlie when he's drunk.
  • Kateri and the Teg: Met in the Wild Jungles. Somehow I feel more at ease around Kateri than the others, less like I have to at least look like I know what I'm doing. I'm not sure why...maybe because she's Rumbleford's mother?

Allies and Family

• Klaus - with him and Arlie at my back, I could almost take on the world. Almost.
• Mother - My mother is...beautiful, strange in a way. I don't know how to act around her...I look forward to getting to know her. $
• Rufina - the only mother I ever knew. Though I know I don't bear all the guilt I still feel responsible for her death...it was my hand that guided the dagger, whoever's control I was under.
• Jack the Diamond - Father. I admire him, and want to make him proud. I've done many things with the band, but none have given me quite as much pride as fighting alongside my father.
• Rumbleford - Respected, almost a teacher. Once my only link to my people, now a close friend and trusted advisor to their ways. His true appearance suits him much better than the one he's had as long as I've known him.
• Madra - Still getting used to him, but he seems a good sort. Having never met a cu sith before, I'm not really sure how to act with him...treating him like I would anyone else should work for now, I hope.
• Connell - I don't know what he is anymore. He's been freed of Civitello, at least so I think, and is free to live his life...I hope he finds his peace, and that we meet again one day. I still love him like a father.
• Valara: Part of me wishes she hadn't come because of the danger, but most of me is glad she did. Aurelia seems happier with her around, and it's just nice watching them. It makes me think of Rufina, and my real mother. I hope she's like Valara. I'll do my best to keep her safe with the rest of the band.
• Marilyna Isral: I hope I did okay with the shaping, for her sake and her parents'. I will do whatever is in my power to keep her safe, in remembrance of her mother, and I hope one day I can tell her of her parents, their love and their sacrifice.
• Mother of Families - I like what she's about. the Mother of Music still has and always will have my love and loyalty, but the Caretaker has my affection and respect.
• Maraddon City - Half of that city is like family to me now, after the concert with Jack. It's a good feeling, and they all mean a lot to me. Whatever they need, if I can somehow give it to them, I will. and I will protect them with all I have. Them and the rest of this world to which they are tied through bonds of family or friendship.

Enemies

• Civitello - A deadly enemy, but gone now. And good riddance.
• The King of Thorns - The only man I've ever wanted to kill. I hate him too, above everyone else, and I will kill him. $
• Those who follow Rex - They have to go before we ever get close to their leader...especially if we want to make sure to save the Summer Country.
• The Prince of Thorns - he's gone. It feels like I should be happier about that. but I am glad.
• Dophanon Pard - He killed Leia. For that alone, I would gladly see him dead. Hell, I'd do it myself. But Arlie spoke of things worse than death...if that is Pard's fate then I will leave him to it, if only to see this Contest through. For Leia's sake.
• Mark Goodrick - Good riddance. Thus to all who hurt my family.
• Blue Frogs - Bad stuff happens whenever they're around. They're gone for good now, and good riddance.
• The Contest Conspiracy - I don't know for certain everyone who's in on it, but whoever is will regret messing with us.
• Nightmare Incarnate - Dangerous. An enemy to be feared. I need to be ready if he tries to hurt anyone around me...or me, for that matter.
• Unseelie - They follow Nightmare, and so are enemies and dangerous. Now the Queen of Nightmare and her Prince have been defeated, and the Unseelie scattered. I've never felt so pleased.

Others

• Qualla the Fool - I still don't like her, but she's...slightly more tolerable now. I think I can live with that.
• Fane Crow - She's not the woman I met on the moons now, and she warned us. I don't trust her too much, but I will respect her.
• Order of the Chrysanthemum - they gave hope, though faint. Much-needed allies.
• Dhunic Movement - not sure what to make of them, but if they affect Jack then he might need help. Be prepared.
• Cursebreakers - They're trying to help the world, apparently. Who are they and can I help them somehow?
• Women - Always to be respected, whenever possible. They can be really confusing sometimes, though...
• Faeries - Confused. They're my mother's people, so they're mine as well, in theory, but I'm only just learning how to be one. I feel like an outsider among them still...hopefully that will change the more time I spend with them.
• Balkis - Not sure what to make of her, but she wants to see Rex's sword destroyed. As far as I'm concerned, she's okay. $

Things and Emotions

• Music - eases the pain and darkness, and now it can do more; be a weapon or a shield, or aid my friends in their efforts.
• My pain - not sure if I should get rid of it, or if getting rid of it would even help. But it seems that even if I could get rid of one pain, another would just replace it. $
• Love - I had it, once, I think, though the Norns warned me against it, something about it giving power over me...but I don't understand why. Aurelia and Bartleby found each other...the Mother of Love called Leia my 'True Love'...once all this is over, maybe I can find her again, somewhere... $
• Honor - Honor, I think, can be too easily confused with pride. Being honorable means not only staying true to what you think is right, but having the grace to admit when you're wrong. I thought I understood that...I think I understand a little better now. I don't know if I've atoned for what I put my friends through yet, but I will continue to do what I can.
• Stellar Jewel - It's fascinating, and I've used it as inspiration for the Song many times...I don't quite know what would happen if I drew on its power while playing, though something tells me it would either be very good or very catastrophic if I did.
• My title - being called 'Your Highness' still feels strange sometimes...it really surprised me when I just answered to it to Arlie. Maybe I'm finally getting used to it...a good thing, now that it's been settled permanently.
• Leadership - I'm out of my element here, but I have people who can and will help me. Arlie, Bartleby, Kateri and my other...generals, I suppose I should call them. I just need to learn to ask them. There should be no shame in needing help...
• My Choice - The Dreamfather gave me the choice of staying fae and remaining in the Summer Country after all is over or going back to what I thought I was and returning to Shem with the others. I chose to remain in the Summer Country...to stay with my true mother. Part of me wonders if I should have asked the others for their thoughts, if I chose too quickly and let my pride and selfishness get in the way again...but I'll be more of a help now in facing the last of our enemies. And one way or another, I'm certain I'll see the band again after all is done...somehow.
