2. Notable changes:
The pestilence church has had a major schism. Venair is dead, Ramsey ("Hollow Jack" as he is commonly called) is now god of pestilence.
Many temples, of all faiths, are losing their followers. Everywhere one goes, one hears more dissatisfaction with faith.
As of recently, it has come to light that negotiations with Kren'atan are falling through. They are demanding Albert Renkarr's head, claiming he aided notorious criminals Bresolin Canveras & Caradonna Dedizione in escaping their law. As both these are now dead, the Empire wants Renkarr's head in their place. The Maraddonian Empire is refusing, but seeking a peaceful resolution. All in all, some faction in Kren'atan clearly wants war with Maraddon.
Tamarnthek is more unstable than usual.
Akazad has recently become stable, establishing the world's first Imperial Parliament.
Berellia has closed its borders entirely. Something is afoot.
Reever captain Christopher Laird has declared himself Emperor of the Reever Sea. His raiding along the coasts of Akazad, Myrmexia, & Maraddon is savage.
The province of Kali has been given independence from Maraddon, though it is still part of the Empire, it governs itself.
The province of Jorgendheim is seeking independence, but no suitable leadership has come forward.
The province of Old Tenzanai is conflicted. Its independence is sought by some. If it does get liberated, the capital of Maraddon will move to Namarc on the east coast.
3. The state of music:
During the last campaign, Dionysus Berrywight did four things that changed the face of music forever:
Taught Albert Renkarr to write music, thus incorporating it into a revolution, showing that popular music could be used to make serious change.
Wrote the Silver Wolf Symphony, incorporating deep emotion into art music, beginning the style known as romantic music (similar to Beethoven's work).
Wrote the Messiah of Hope Symphony Cycle, which broke tonality & other traditions, beginning progressive romantic style (like Wagner's Tristan und Isolde) & paving the way for complete dissolution of musical traditions in the classical areas.
Retired to become a traveling bard, subtly implying that popular & folk music are of equal value to classical composition.
Many popular musicians have gained new status, suddenly, of being true artists, accepted in more respected circles. The old patronized popular musicians, the ones that got invited to the high class lowbrow parties & such, have lost status--people like Jack Crane. A New School of popular musician is on the rise.
Composers have embraced romantic style, but progressive romantic style is on the fringe. Messiah is recognized as a masterpiece, but also distrusted. Some blame it for the sudden lack of music faithful in the temples. The radical composers are embracing progressive romanticism, & the truly off the wall composers--like Subiquim--are becoming bards.
Folk musics remain on the fringe, part of the regional & local traditions of isolated tribes & cultures.
