Avery he's either wandering the grounds taking a look round or spending time with his father. Or both, if JD is amenable to taking a walk.
Dionysus Diamond is.
Dionysus You are starting in the southern field, where the quartering house and victory field are.
- Avery picks a direction at random and starts walking. say east.
Dionysus The southern field also has the gates. The western field has towers, the estern more towers and the stables. You've also not been in the Arena properly.
Avery East works well, then.
Dionysus The northern field you have to pass through one of the above to get to.
Avery Noted.
Dionysus Which field do you explore?
Avery East. It has towers and Avery wouldn't mind seeing what kind of critters are in/around the stables.
Dionysus The staging field is between the stables and the Arena proper, and they have most of the animals and carts and things. A wall at the end of the stable building extends to the Arena, blocking the way through. You'll have to go back south to go around the stable building to go further into the eastern field. Horses of all sorts are there, as well as drakes, giant lizards, a giant leaf, some sort of massive
Dionysus worm, a giant frog, and several different types of giant birds.
- Avery tries not to stare too much at the leaf and the frog...what color is the frog?
Dionysus Green and purple.
Avery nice. and so we continue east, with a detour to the south.
Dionysus The field next to the stables is apparently the Squire's Field, where gladiator's servants would go to play on their days off. A sports field, really, impromptu. There's evidence of this, but no actual squires here now.
Dionysus Further north of that is a tower field, with the brown tower first.
Dionysus It feels incredibly worthful.
- Avery moves closer for a better look, curious.
Avery kay. probably confusing it with something else. he's not looking for an entrance, just something to say what the tower's for. if there's nothing, then he moves on.
Dionysus The next one is grey, also nondescript and entranceless, then a violet one, then an indigo one, then a yellow one where the northern field begins. From there, you can see a long, narrow building which is the temple building.
- Avery looks at it for a moment, making a mental note of its location, then continues exploring. anything else in the northern field?
Dionysus On the other side of the temple building is the Green Tower, then it curves south to the western field.
- Avery is wondering what the towers are and if there's anything inside, but aside from looking around them he does little to find out. away westward we go.
Dionysus There's a blue tower and an orange tower, then a long field with nothing in it... except you feel something in it. There's much of value here, but you don't hear, see, smell, or feel it. You just wealth sense it.
Dionysus It's here, though, like a market place full of things.
Dionysus And people.
- Avery pauses, looking around confusedly and a bit warily - last time he could sense but not see something he got attacked.
Dionysus Diamond looks around, too.
- Avery glances at him. "...d'you have any idea what's with this place?"
Dionysus "There's a hidden market. Dunno how to tap into it, though."
Avery "Huh..." he looks around for any clues as to how to do that.
Dionysus Diamond does, too.
Dionysus The translucent tourists that are everywhere throughout the grounds sometimes walk through spots that are empty, but vanish, as if they walked behind walls or such.
Dionysus And you occasionally see things out of the corner of your eyes that are market place-like.
- Avery is intrigued by this place. he'll approach one of the seemingly invisible walls and try to touch it to see if there's anything there.
Dionysus Which hand do you use?
Avery His right. though if that doesn't work he'll try that invisible third arm of his just on a whim.
Dionysus The third one bumps into it.
- Avery thus feels along the wall until he finds the edge or a door.
Dionysus You don't find a door. It's an open air market. But you do touch invisible people, who bat your hand away.
- Avery jerks back the first time this happens, looking at where he felt the person pointlessly.
Avery "...I've got to tell Jack about this."
Dionysus Diamond says, "I saw it."
- Avery looks at him. "you did? I...all I get are flashes of things."
Dionysus "When your invisible hand touch it, I could see it. And you pissed off that goblin."
Avery "I did...? er...I'm sorry." that last said in the general direction of the last thing he touched.
Dionysus Diamond laughs. "So... now what?"
- Avery smiles wryly. "well, there's still the Arena itself to see...and we could join the welcoming committee at the gates for a bit too..."
Dionysus Diamond scowls, "Oh, now, Avery my lad, you're giving up? It's a market!"
- Avery chuckles. "That I can't see. I'd hate to start an argument that wrecks the place because I accidentally knocked over someone's stall." he turns toward the last thing he caught a glimpse of. "But I'm game."
Dionysus He says, "You almost had it. How do we improve upon our last attempt?"
- Avery thinks for a moment. "You could see it when I touched it...hm...I've walked through markets blind before, so I could just take the bandana off and go by feel, but there's got to be something else..." he trails off, biting his lip in thought.
Dionysus He waits.
Avery "...I could try vanishing...or the Jewel, but...I don't know how that'd help you."
Dionysus "Try anything! Touching worked last time, though. You just need to... touch more of it somehow, I guess."
- Avery has no idea how to do that, but does try vanishing to see if that lets him see anything.
Dionysus It does nothing.
- Avery reappears looking stubbornly determined. his invisible arm could touch things...so how to touch more than just one arm can...
Dionysus Diamond waits
- Avery finally speaks after a few minutes. "...I don't know how." he looks around them, frustrated. "if it's my arm that's the key, then I don't know what to do...it's just like a normal arm except invisible...if it's something else, then I don't know what it is..."
Dionysus "You have more than an invisible arm. Try other things. Don't stop."
Avery "Other things like what?" he looks round, not really expecting an answer. maybe there's a key to making the market visible that can be sensed...somehow. or maybe it's just magic blocking it, and if he focuses enough he can see it...both ideas get set aside. just on a whim he draws his pennywhistle and starts playing, not really settling on a tune to begin with.
Avery this is a contest of music, after all, it can't hurt.
Dionysus Diamond taps his feet to the tune, but nothing major seems to happen./
- Avery tries putting more of himself into the tune...it's a very abstract idea but the basic gist of it is that if he needs to touch more of the place, he can do it better with music than in any physical way.
Dionysus Do you have any power in mind when you do that?
Avery his invisible arm.
Dionysus Nothing much happens
- Avery shifts the tune a bit, kind of experimenting with his various powers through the music. even the ones that are triggered by other instruments.
Dionysus what do you try with dreamweaving?
Avery A few things, really. he'll try treating the market as a dream and weaving it visible to start, or weaving the area around it so he can at least see defined borders and suchlike.
Avery He'd also, on the basis that it can't hurt, try weaving himself and Diamond into the market.
Dionysus You and Diamond fall asleep, and awaken in the market.
Avery "...well, that worked."
Avery "I think."
Dionysus Diamond yawns, "I think so, too. The goblin's that way, so let's not go there."
Avery "Right..." he turns to explore in the opposite direction, feeling rather pleased with himself.
Dionysus Do you look for anything particular?
Avery Anything interesting or unusual. Something Leia would like, or a rather belated wedding gift for Aurelia and Bartleby.
Dionysus There's... a lot of magical stuff here, and blessed stuff.
Dionysus You can find almost anything. Pick: item, armor, weapon, instrument, living thing, or other for both
Avery Hm...item or living thing for Leia, and item or other for the wedded couple. I'm not sure what constitutes other but I am intrigued.
Dionysus You find a strange glowing rabbit with two heads that thumps odd rhythms with its legs for Leia?
Dionysus And... for Aurelia and Bartleby...
Dionysus Any ideas?
Avery Hm...well, Avery would look for something for the both of them, either a single object they could both use, or one thing for each of them. Something revolving around music and art, especially for Aurelia...
Dionysus Something domestic, or something useful for the quest?
Avery Ideally both, but under the circumstances something useful trumps domestic. His inner romantic would look for something that kind of symbolizes Bartleby to give to Aurelia, and vice-versa. like maybe a violin necklace that plays music for Aurelia and...I can't think of what for Bartleby.
Dionysus How about a pair of bracelets made of sapphire hearts that link the users' strength?
Avery Perfect!
Dionysus We can deal with giving those later. Anything else sought here?
Avery Not really. He explores a bit with Diamond, avoids the goblin, and eventually leaves to explore the rest of the compound. I assume the way out is the same as the way in?
Dionysus No, you just leave the bounds of it and you're out.
Avery Oh good, since that's the first thing he tries.
Dionysus The Arena itself is the last thing to check: four floors, three above ground. The basement is where there are small arenas where they are building stages for the Contest. The first floor is utility tunnels and the main Arena grounds. Second floor is the commoner stands, slanted up and away, and the third floor is the box seats and dragon galleries.
- Avery is suitably awed by how big it is.
Dionysus Over 100,000 can fit in it
Avery nice.
Dionysus Any arrivals you would interact with?
Avery not really. he doesn't go down to the gates much due to Qualla, so wouldn't know when she leaves the gate area.
Dionysus How's he spend his time?
Avery practicing music and archery and talking to those already there. just chatter, really.
