Description

Zeronysian eyes come in four forms: pods, Zeronysian eyes, seneschals, and queen's eyes.

Pods are eyeless pods with tentacles that end either in needles or suckers. About the size & shape of an American football at first, they grow to be about the size of a large dog before evolving into an Zeronysian eye. They vary in color drastically, but most are either black or brown. Most have large pustules from which grow tentacles. Large, ugly, craggy dimples cover the body of the pod as well, & usually, they have a large, gaping mouth that hangs useless until an eye is grown.

Sometimes, the ends of the tentacles will rot off, & the stump that is left will develop an eye. Usually, a pod will have upwards of five eyestalks before a whole, functioning eye grows (at which point, it will be an Zeronysian eye). Any pod that grows a body-eye will be classified as an Zeronysian eye.

Between the size of a large dog & the size of a small car, your average Zeronysian eye has one large main eye & between six & twelve eyestalks. They usually have large, many-toothed mouths. They range in color across the spectrum & then some, but they usually they are light tan. Some have tentacles that end in nasty suckers.

A seneschal ranges in size from that of a small car to the size of a small bus. They range in color from one end of the spectrum to the other, but most are a sickly green in color. Seneschal have between 6 & 12 eyestalks, & some have strange, thin insectoid legs. They each have a main eye that is usually blood shot (though the color of the blood varies). They generally do not have tentacles, & if they do, they are small, weak, sickly things.

Ranging from the size of a small bus to the size of a large hill, a queen's eye has more than twelve eyestalks & no legs or tentacles whatsoever. A queen's eye is usually black skinned, but can sometimes be other colors. She will have a lid to her main eye that is often kept closed & will usually have huge, mucuos-covered egg sacs hanging from her lower regions.

Procreation

Pods fertilize the queen's eye of the hive, who lays eggs that will hatch into pods. Zeronysian eyes are hatched as pods, but mutate into Zeronysian eyes. These then grow into seneschals, then the most potent ones become queen's eyes.

Magic

They are incapable of magic, void, or faith.

Special Powers

Almost alll Zeronysian eyes of any stage can generally levitate themselves, though some mutations prevent it.

The first function of a pod is to fertilize the queen's eye. They do this through their needled tentacles, which pierce the eggsacs hanging from the queen's eye & inject the seed.

The second function of a pod is to protect the queen. They do this by emanating an aura of entropic energy that, when amplified by their sheer numbers (no less than 100 protect the queen's eye), make a field of unpredictable reality that ranges from 100' to 500' feet in diameter.

Further, they "evolve" constantly, changing day to day, based on a thousand different variables that make their appearance, capabilities, & status change dramatically. Any type of chaotic power is possible with their growing eyestalks & tentacles.

The first power most Zeronysian eyes develop is that attached to its main eye. This is almost always some sort of gaze-connected power. Commonly, anyone caught in the area of the Zeronysian eye's gaze will suffer drastic & quick entropic deterioration. Other common powers are random polymorph gaze, entropic aura, or unreality field.

The eyestalks each have their own chaotic power, generally much weaker than the main eye's power. Like an pod, the Zeronysian eye will evolve new eyestalks, each with a different power (usually).

The suckers at the end of a Zeronysian eye's tentacles, if it has one, are capable of piercing the skin & sucking out blood. This is usually done to weaken the prey & allow it to be brought back to the queen's eye.

A Zeronysian eye will almost always have developed an immunity to something, usually heat or cold, though other variations crop up.

Though they are the same as other Zeronysian eyes, underwater variants (those who evolved resistance to the pressures underwater) are often referred to as "aquatic eyes."

One of the main differences between Zeronysian eyes & seneschals is that a seneschal starts getting eyestalks that do not limit themselves to chaotic powers. They begin to gain powers that work in the other evil spheres. Most common are destruction, hatred (berzerking), pestilence (madness), & famine. Darkness & despair come next. If a void power evolves, however, the other powers will slowly die off, & the main eye will go blind. These beings eventually become

empty sockets.

The main eye will usually have the same power it did as a Zeronysian eye, though usually stronger. Sometimes, though, it will evolve, though rarely outside of the chaotic sphere.

The other main difference is that seneschals can control other Zeronysian eyes with influence via the hive mind. A single seneschals can command upwards of 10 Zeronysian eyes at a time. They would have several immunities.

A queen's eye can sometimes speak, though they rarely learn any language.

A queen's eye has the ability to evolve eyestalks with powers of any neutral or evil sphere. The largest queen's eye known had 300 eyestalks, all chaos-powered.

A queen's eye's main eye will almost always have a chaos power, but some rare ones have other powers. All queen's eyes can levitate themselves. All queen's eyes have at least six immunities.

A queen's eye's mouth leads into an entropic oven that will dissolve anything put into it within seconds. The bulk of this is used to nourish the egg sacs & feed the pods.

A queen's eye has an aura of unreality around her that amplifies that of her pods tremendously.

The eye of an queen's eye is a lake of chaos. To look into it unlidded is to gaze into chaos itself.

Weaknesses

Order magic or faith can be used to make any stage of Zeronysian eye revert back to its original, weaker form. Due to sheer size, a queen's eye is not very fast or sneaky.

Culture

Pods exist to fertilize & defend the queen's eye. They dwell in the fertilizing pools & birthing pools that exist in the queen's eye's "throne" room within the hive. They hate everything that is not the queen's eye, including each other.

Zeronysian eyes are the soldiers & hunters of the hive. They find meat for the queen's eye & they act as the main force of guards & fighters for the hive. When two hives fight, it is the Zeronysian eyes who do most of the fighting.

Zeronysian eyes, like pods, hate everything, including each other. They only serve the hive because of their fear of the queen's eye & the presence of the hive mind, which, as they have intelligence, dominates them.

Seneschals are the generals of the hive. They have the most independence from the hive mind, & thus, are some of the most feared. They command squads of Zeronysian eyes & lead war expeditions & hunting parties. They create chaos wherever they go, leaving behind them vast swaths of unreality.

They hate all others, especially other seneschals, & often figth for position in the hive. If a Zeronysian eye starts closing in on seneschal status, the commanding seneschal will often kill it.

The queen's eye rules the hive from her throne room, hovering above a pool of birthing fluid, attended by hundreds of pods. She lays eggs & dominates the region, doing the hive's thinking for them. She seeks to expand her territory, usually, though some seek merely to craft their territory to a chaotic hellfield.

Notables

There are no notable pods. Some Cultists of the Mouth have found ways to sever a Zeronysian eye from the hive & let them roam free. These Zeronysian eyes, called seekers, evolve into magnificently colored monstrosities that spread chaos & destruction in their wake. When a Cultist of the Mouth frees a seneschal, it is known as an overseer. This master of chaos will rally the seekers in the area & form a weaker version of a hive, known as a coterie, & will attempt to create a wasteland of chaos.

The First Zeronysian Eye, whose hive is somewhere in the Catacombs, was a queen's eye slain during the Corrupter's Uprising.
