A dragon-like beast with two giant wings & two hind legs (but no forelegs). The wyven has a sharp stinger on its tail that injects powerful poison into its victims, often paralyzing the large prey it hunts. Some wyverns instead inject the plague into their victims, though these are rare, & are oft called "green wyverns," despite the fact that most all wyverns are green.

Its voice is like that of a whistle or a flute, & the playing of such near a wyvern might accidentally call it.

Some rare wyverns have fishtails in place of stingers & are aquatic, being referred to as "blue wyverns."

The First Wyvern is said to have mated with the Manticore, Amuda, on First Shem, producing a beast whose tail was that of a scorpion & whose body was leonine in some ways. This beast is the legendary "red wyvern" & stalks Taggaran jungles to this day.
