Animal Folk

Alignment: Elemental

When an animal person is born, they are almost completely animalistic. They grow into their anthropomorphism as they age, and as they engage in the culture of their people, they take on different aspects of both animal and mortal, as this generates the animal magic that defines them. This is why some animal folk of the same nation may grow up with differing degrees of animalistic characteristics. The commonest form of animal folk is a bipedal, upright variant of their animal counterpart. The extremes of appearance are nearly completely human with vague animalistic characteristics or nearly completely animal with only the ability of speech to distinguish them.

Animal folk will have powers similar to the abilities of the animal they are descended from and on the cultural associations with that animal.

Animal folk native to the moons are few, and always based on animals that resemble Shem (or Earth) species. Any species native to the area has an animal folk equivalent, though some are much rarer than others. They are sorted by area:

Beastkin

Alignment: Celestial

Beastkin are animal folk who are born resembling their parents, but when they come of age, they have a vision of an animal that serves as their guide (moral, ethical, or otherwise) and determines their adult form. They tend to be more on the human side of appearance, with just a few animalistic features. Those native to the moons are very rare.

Alderfly Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic alderflies with brown wings and chitin. They live in small egalitarian communities, usually in the poorer sections of the colonies. Most came to the moons as slaves and have found freedom since, though some are still enslaved. When five or more of them are in one place at a time, they become equal to armies in defense of their own communities. They are very spiritual and seek equilibrium within their own souls. Though they have wings, they do not fly well. They prefer to live near water, and often create magical pools on the moons to dwell near. The purpose of the adobe adderfly spirit is equality.

Striped Banxring Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic banxrings (treeshrews) with grey striped fur and and pointy faces. They live in the trees of the Green Moon or the ballaman forest on the Grey Moon. They are refugees from Shem, fleeing the powerful empires there who have deforested their homelands. They speak to the trees and protect them. The purpose of the ailanthan banxring spirit is protecting the trees of heaven.

Mourning Cloak Folk: 6" anthropomorphic mounring cloaks (lepidopterans) with red markings on their dark blue wings that look like blood droplets. The dust from their wings has healing properties. They come as refugees from Shem and live in harmony with the oppressed, often hiding in their gardens and living quiet lives there. They are usually friends with the people whose gardens they dwell in, but sometimes not. They will never leave someone sick or injured. The purpose of the bleeding nymph spirit is healing.

Giant Honey Bee Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic giant honey bees (based on the extinct species on Earth). They are known for their massive hive cities they keep on Shem; on the moons, they keep smaller communities or are enslaved. They are good harvesters and farmers, keeping extravagant gardens on the Green or Grey Moons in refugee communities. Their honey keeps people full no matter what. The purpose of the bountiful bee spirit is the good harvest.

Binturong Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic binturongs with shiny green fur. They have big pointy faces with whiskers, and they are good climbers. They are known for their deep-voiced singing that brings their communities together. Almost all of them on the moons are enslaved in the colonies. On Shem, they live in tropical forests, and they adjust poorly to the moons. The purpose of the emerald binturong spirit is harmony.

Jewel Beetle Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic beetles with colorful chitin. Their wings glint in the light and spread positive emotions of their choice among those who are nearby. They come to the moons as refugees, fleeing imperial violence, and they seek to keep far from the colonial lands. They are very good at emotional regulation and often help others in crisis. The purpose of the faceted beetle spirit is good emotions.

Window-Gnat Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic gnats with black and grey chitin. They are optimisitc little folk, bringing hope and refreshment to their friends and communities. They are known for their ability to clear the air (literally) around them and make it soothing. They are refugees from Shem, mostly, and considered a pest by colonials. They live in the corners and fringes of colonial regions. The purpose of the fresh gnat spirit is hope.

Silver Pika Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic pikas with blue fur. They are aptly named, known for their welcoming personalities and desire to help others. They create magical emotional bonds with others. They live in large communities on the lunar maria, refugees from imperial violence, hiding in warrens and villages. They are considered pests by imperials. The purpose of the friendly pika spirit is friendship.

Red Panda Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic red pandas with orange fur. They come from communities on Shem that resisted imperial violence, and those who are on the moons have been forced to flee, banished from their homelands by powerful imperial occupations. Most yearn to return and fight. On the moons, they lead a guerrilla war against the imperials, using the fulvous flame on their tails to empower themselves and others. The purpose of the fulvous panda spirit is liberation.

Ark Clam Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic clam folk with taupe shells. They are brought to the moons as slaves, often used as literal furniture by colonials. Some few have escaped, many returning to Shem, but some finding new homes on the moons where they create powerful structures to protect themselves. The purpose of the homing clam spirit is returning home.

Citron-Throated Toucan Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic toucans with black- and yellow-colored feathers. They have huge beaks. They came to Shem as refugees and seek the magical light of the moons, which they weave into rainbows and create beautiful communities. They are terrified of the colonials. The purpose of the iridal toucan spirit is beauty and empowerment.

Broad-Fingered Crawfish Folk: 1' tall crawfish folk with brown chitin and pincers. They dwell in the Green Moon's swamps, living as refugees. Their presence brings joy and happiness to those around them, which is their primary defense. They live in hiding from the colonials. The purpose of the joyous crawfish spirit is joy.

Solid Caecilian Folk: 3' tall anthropomorphic caecilians (amphibians) with blue skin. They were brought as slaves or came as refugees to the moons, and they live up to their names despite the horrors their people have seen. They are extremely kind and giving, helping anyone who comes to them. For every random act of kindness they perform, they gain one point of magical protection. The purpose of the kindly caecillian spirit is kindness.

Painted Francolin Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic francolins with many colored feathers. They can run on rainbows and live on the Green Moon, where they build powerful communities that resist the colonials, whom they fled to begin with. Their feathers empower others if given freely. The purpose of the radiant francolin spirit is empowerment and brilliance.

Snakefly Folk: 3' tall anthropomorphic snakeflies with long bodies and translucent wings. They worship the rainbow serpents of Shem. They wield all the powers of the celestial rainbows - hope, inspiration, love, harmony, joy, freedom, bravery, wisdom - and are known for their deep spirituality. They came to the moons seeking new places to support others seeking liberation and equality. The purpose of the rainbow snakefly spirit is the nine parts of the radiant rainbow.

Hadrosaur Folk: 12' tall anthropomorphic hadrosaur folk with duck-billed snouts. They are extremely peaceful and often used as slaves by the colonials. Though they can imbue calm in others with their voices, they cannot do this to those who are violent towards them. Some few have escaped and found refuge on the moons. The purpose of the serene hadrosaur spirit is peace.

Angel Insect Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic angel insects with translucent bodies and wings. They have an orange tinge to them. They are seekers of truth, scholars and researchers and students of the world, who are empowered when they find a rare truth. They are on the moons mostly as refugees. The purpose of the tongotra enina spirit is truth.

Yellow Perch Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic perch fish with yellow and brown scales. They are bloodbonded to their families, which they can change if need be, and form small, powerful communities, usually near water. They mostly live on the Green Moon as refugees from violence on Shem. The purpose of the tournaline perch spirit is family, blood or found.

Tayra Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic tayras (mustelids) with turquoise fur. They live in matriarchal communes away from the colonials, led by shamanesses who guide them via ancestral worship. They mostly came to the moons as slaves, but many have now escaped. The purpose of the turquoise tayra spirit is matrilineal ancestry.

[Southern] Hognose Snake Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic hognose snakes with red and brown scales and black patches. They are a powerful warrior nation; those on the moons came as slaves and escaped to build their own communities. They live in resistance to the colonial powers. They are empowered by their own brave actions. The purpose of the tusked hognose snake spirit is bravery.

Olingo Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic olingos (procyons) with large eyes. They live in the Green Moon's forests as refugees from Shem. They have small communities where they keep a sharp eye out for danger. They have incredible vision. The purpose of the vigilant olingo spirit is awareness, vigilance, and mindfulness.

Pampathere Folk: 8' tall anthropomorphic pampatheres (prehistoric armadillos) with yellow shells. They are the only beastkin native to the moons, living on all of them. They live in small, remote communities, seeking deep and ancient wisdoms that none others know. The purpose of the wise pampathere spirit is wisdom.

Bhrocaire

Alignment: Fey

Bhrocaires are fey folk with animal features. They have powers and appearances based as much on stories about their animal counterparts as reality. Their faces are usually more hominid, sometimes taking a shape that is similar to the animals but still human-like (i.e., bulging eyes on a frog person). But other parts of them are more animalistic. All lunar bhrocaires are on the Green Moon.

[Olsen's] Alligator Folk: 9' tall anthropomorphic alligators of the equatorial wetlands. They guard the crossings there. The alligator bhrocaires are great warriors who protect the passageways through the wetlands, making money as boaters and fishers. They have the ability to sense the spirits of crossroads and see in the murk.

Bog Elfin Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic elfins (lepidopterans) with patterned brown, black, and white wings. They are known for weaving dreams. Bog elfin bhrocaires live in forests and fields and integrate into firy society, using their magic to make special dreams for people. They are well regarded and many work for the queen.

Bristly Millipede Folk: 6' all and 13' long anthropomorphic millipedes covered in brown and white bristles. They walk backward. They are said to know the end of every story, though this is not provable. They do have some prescient powers, and they have a habit of cutting to the chase in discussions. They live in mushroom forests and fields and like to smoke.

Brown Trout Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic trout with brown scales. They love good ale. They live in the rivers and lakes of the Green Moon, coming ashore often, working as traders, hunters, barkeeps, innkeeps, and alewrights. They are popular among the peoples of the fey regions. They are known for their jokes and stories.

[Common European] Brown Frog Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic frogs with brown and white mottled skin. They craft illusions and hallucinations. Brown frog bhrocaires live in forest and field, among the fey, and work as imagers and crafters of the unreal. They are very mystic and powerful, and fairies often go to them for special magical imagery.

Brown Lacewing Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic lacewings with brown chitin and translucent wings. They are known for their muddled stories that are all mixed up. Brown lacewing bhrocaires live in watery areas and are known for their crafting. They connect disparate things often; for example, they will combine a boat and a broom to make a special vehicle, or a hammer and a spoon to make an interesting tool. They often use synthesizing magic for this.

Bukardo Folk: 7' tall anthropomorphic [Pyrennean] ibexes. They are seers and oracles. They live in mountainous and grassland communities, where they keep to themselves and perform daily rituals to determine their routines. They leave nothing to chance, always consulting "the fates" to know how to proceed.

Cait Sith Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic fairy cats. They are extremely powerful and tricky fey. They are black with a white spot on their chests. They know the King of Cats and honor him in their magic. They can steal souls from those who have just passed, holding them for ransom until they get some trinket or secret. They love music and dancing, cat nip, and playing games. They can sense heat, and they can hear whispers of those trying to trick them. They can grant good luck to those who give them milk, but will curse those who refuse.

Cave Hyena Folk: 7' tall anthropomorphic hyenas. They are allied with the Wild Hunt. They are known for their strength and speed, their unique vocalizations and language, and their larger size (they are taller and bigger than other hyena folk). They have spotted fur. They are skilled hunters, and they work with the Wild Hunt as trackers and enforcers.

Coney Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic [European] rabbit folk. They are known for their cultivation of fairy mushrooms. They are lucky and cunning, and they have sixth sense for danger. Their work with fairy mushrooms is often the cause of deep hallucinations and delusions among them, and they are often seen as "mad".

Dire Wolf Folk: 8' tall anthropomorphic wolves of the southern temperate zone. They are masters of all the fey animals. Massive lupine folk, the dire wolf folk are considered leaders of all the animals of the Green Moon. They dwell in the woods and grasslands, and anyone who harms an animal in their domain without their permission is hunted and killed. They are feared by all.

Diving Beetle Folk: 7' tall anthropomorphic beetles with dark brown or black chitin banded with tan. They are nomadic wanderers who gather stories around the Green Moon. These beetle folk stop at inns, taverns, and wayhouses to talk to strangers, eliciting stories and paying them strange coins or cards that contain magic. They gather these stories to weave into objects, using this magic on their long journeys.

Donkey Folk: 6' tall anthropomoprhic donkeys. They are protectors of their towns and villages. Donkey folk are the butt of many jokes, but in their home towns and places they have bonded to, they are nearly undefeatable. Their magic is that of a place's stories, which they know innately, hearing it with their large ears when they enter it and stop to listen.

Dragonlet Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic dragonflies with translucent wings with dark black bands. They breathe faeriefire. Dragonlet folk work illusions and use magicks that protect them from bigger folk, and they are often integrated into fairy society. They can breathe out more faeriefire than their entire bodies could possibly hold.

Eastern Racer Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic snakes with dark bluish grey scales. They keep fairy lights in their mouths. They dwell in the equatorial wetlands. These snake folk imitate the hinkypunks of the swamps as a means of survival, but they are also their friends, using fairy lights to dance with the elemental lights. They are very fast and cunning.

[Common] Eider Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic eiders with either brown mottled feathers or black and white feathers. They live in the northern polar regions. They can see into the subconscious mind.

Fairyfly Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic fairyflies in the northern temperate zone. They are bulbous wasp-like folk. They honor the stories of the stars. These insect folk count the stars at night, dancing amidst the lights, and tell their tales to each other. Under the stars, they gain fairy light powers, and under the sun, they have sharp stings.

Fairy Flycatcher Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic flycatcher birds. They live in the southern temperate zone. They have short memories and little concern for the future. About half of them are clairvoyant. They live integrated with the fairy folk, and they make merry and ignore any responsibilities.

Fairy Lorikeet Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic lorikeets with red and green feathers. They move nonlinearly, hopping sideways and ending up in strange places. They are much like cheshire cats, removing parts of themselves magically, moving about in chaos. They are common among the fairies of the tropical zone.

Fairy Martin Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic fairy martins with orange heads, white bodies, and black wings. They can speak to the winds. They live in the southern temperate region where they live in the forests among the fey there, bringing messages and sending them for the more powerful fairy folk.

Festoon Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic festoon moths with furry brown wings. They are known for their major celebrations and festivals. Festoon folk are party goers, party attendants, and party planners for the fairy folk. They make wondrous dishes, invent delightful games, and design intricate celebrations and festivals.

Fox Kestrel Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic kestrels with with golden feathers and black legs. They live in the southern subtropical zone. They are powerful warriors. They serve with the fairy armies; they are elite warriors who tell ancient tales of battle, drawing magic from them.

Fuzzy Bear Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic brown bears of the northern temperate zone. They are known for their tall tales and grand boasts. These small bear folk are especially fuzzy, and this causes many to underestimate them. They boast of their abilities, and they are not without the ability to back them up.

Ghost Mantis Folk: 7' tall anthropomorphic dark brown and black mantises. They live in the tropical zone and live in the shadowy regions there. They hide from the sun and weave shadows into stories, making strange images out of them. They speak in mysteries.

Giant Deer Folk: 12' tall anthropomorphic [Irish] elk folk. They are protectors of life. These massive elk folk dwell in the northern temperate zone where they live in mystic villages, honoring ancient tales of life, working as healers, and protecting the world from stange horrors lurking in the remote places.

Giant Otter Folk: 7' tall anthropomorphic giant otters living along the rivers of the Green Moon. They are known for their deep philosophical ponderings. They sit by the rivers, fishing and thinking, sharing deep thoughts, and having a good drink now and again. They are beloved among the fey.

Giant Shrew Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic giant shrews of the subtropical zone. They can see souls. They live in large burrows where they keep vast libraries of ancient lore, and they are much sought out for their insights.

Large-Spotted Civet Folk: 5' tall civet folk living in the tropical zone. They are known for their use of poppetry. As magic users, they have huge libraries of poppets and olls that they use for their magic, which is based on ancient lore. They are loners who study magic and sell their dolls to get by amongst the fairy folk.

Lynx Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic lynxes with tufted ears, spotted fur, sharp fangs and claws, and a tail. Their fur is reddish, brown, and white. They are quiet folk with a national culture of hunting, small but ornate homes in secluded spots, and a very complex language. They have a fondness for smoking pipes, which derives from their old cultural practices and rituals. When the colonists came, they tried to remain neutral, but ultimately had to fight for their own survival. They are stereotyped as violent and disgusting people by colonials. They have the ability to see through solid objects once per day, the ability to sense when someone is withholding information once per month, and the ability to become invisible for an hour once per week.

Marsh Owl Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic owls with brown and whtie feathers. They know the First Language, which is understood by all but speakable by few. They live in old tree houses and dispense lore and knowledge to those who come seeking it. They are powerful mystics who are revered by the other fey.

Merlin Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic merlins. 6' tall merlin folk with beaks, feathers, wings, and tails, mostly grey, brown, blue-grey, silver, and white. Their original culture was focused on hunting and magic, though they also had universities that were world renowned. In the colonies, they are oppressed but many join the military or other forces to gain privilege. In their own villages, they maintain their legacy of learning and magic. They have the ability to take a large merlin form once per week, the ability to sense magical energies, and magical hunting senses.

[European] Mole Cricket Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic crickets with brown chitin. They make incredible fiddle music with their legs. They are merry music makers who live among the fey and are considered some of the best musicians on the moon.

Mudbug Folk: 2' tall anthropomorphic crawfish who live in the swamps of the tropical zone. They know the lore of the waters. They live amongst the mud in small communities which keep the stories of the wetlands, telling the tales to any who come to them. They are friends to the fey, but keep to themselves. They are famed cooks.

Natterjack Toad Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic toads with greyish green mottled skin. They live in the grasslands and are powerful wielders of magic. They know the most ancient Traditions of magic, wield its formulaic spells, and absorb it through their skin. They are much sought out by the fey for their spells.

Nematode Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic nematodes who dwell in the swamps of the tropical zone. They are known for their cunning collection of debts. They are feared even by the fey, as they have powerful magic to extract what is owed to them. They are very unfriendly.

Onion Thrip Folk: 6" tall anthropomorphic thrips with golden chitin and translucent wings. They often trigger wild magic. These tiny insect folk can sense magical energies and seek them out, but often accidentally set them off when they interact with them. They are considered foolish among the fey.

Pond Slider Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic turtle folk with dark greyish green shells. They value the truth and tell only true tales. They live along the temperate lakes. They are very astute and can see what is actually there, seeing through illusions and lies easily. They are slow but shrewd, and many seek them out for their perspective.

Quenk Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic peccaries of the equatorial zone. They are skilled farmers. They keep large farms where many fey dwell, often the smaller fey who do all sorts of household tasks for them. They create complex communities, which they lead as the head farmers.

Red Fox Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic red foxes with long, fluffy tails and white under bellies. Athletic, cunning, and skilled, they were never conquered. They revere a folk hero who was a legendary trickster, and they emulate him in their culture and their powers. Skilled at stealth, thievery, and trickery, they are stereotyped - not entirely wrongly - as con artists. They love blackberries, grapes, and butter. They ruling class famously hunted them and their animal counterparts, and they have spent thousands of years dodging them and tricking them. The older they get, the more tails they get. They have many trickster abilities, including control of faeriefire or fairy lights, ventriloquism, vanishing powers, and mimicry. Consult with the GM for other ideas.

Slender Brown Scorpion Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic scorpions with dark brown chitin and squarish stingers. They live in the tropical zone and are known for their cold analysis of their foes. Splendid Fairywren: 4' tall blue anthropomorphic wrens. They are skilled performers. They live in the southern polar region. Western Jackdawn Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic jackdaws. They are very lucky. If they give their feathers to others, it brings them luck. They are known for their gregarious ways, taking risks, and wildness. They love an adventure, and many of them have taken to the stars.

Whiskered Bat Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic bats. They are conflict-oriented, but they don't always resort to violence. They know how to resolve things, and they are often sought out for their ability to do so. They live in shallow caves and prefer to come out at night.

White Cockatoo Folk: 6' tall anthropomorphic white cockatoos with feather mohawks. They can see from different perspectives. They live in the tropical zone. Their magic allows them to see through the eyes of others, which makes them useful for many things among the fey. They are considered wise and clever.

Wood Mouse Folk: 3' tall anthropomorphic mice. They are known for their skill with witchcraft. These mice folk live in small, woman-led communes where they practice witchcraft as a matter of course. They are seen as wise members of the fey community.

Yellow-Fronted Parrot Folk: 5' tall anthropomorphic parrots with yellow faces and green bodies. They are skilled with mimicry. They often get used as performers by the fey for various things, especially as court jesters and actors. They are good ventriloquists as well.

Alignment: Infernal

Chelifs are animal folk empowered by the dominance and power they have over animals, each other, and other beings, and by the pain and fear they generate. They always take exaggerated, dangerous animal features. They are all there as conquerors.

Anyone playing a chelif will have to be someone who has left their privilege behind to become a part of the local communities.

[European] Black Widow Folk: 7’ tall anthropomorphic black widows. Known for their web-warren homes and their distinctive markings, these anthropomorphic spiders are a nation of ruling class elites who are often the power behind the throne. They are closely aligned with the kashirum, who fetishize them, and those few who do not engage as ruling class powers are often relegated to serving as ornamental slaves. They have potent venom and magical webs.

Blister Beetle Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic blister beetles. Their culture is one that has embraced harsh punishments and torture as effective tools, and many of them serve the ruling classes as torturers and gaolers. They are mostly ruling class elites involved in prisons and the military. They have a toxin that causes blistering and pain in anyone they inflict with it. They are very colorful.

Bronze Cuckoo Folk: 3’ tall anthropomorphic cuckoos with grey, brown, and white feathers, tails, and wings. Cuckoo folk belong to a cult that worships a deity they called Untydre, a deity born dead, never alive, always consuming. They believe that sacrificing the children of others feeds their deity, and therefore, they are justified in killing the children of others and tricking people into raising their children. To get by in society, however, they pretend to be sparrowhawk folk, mimicking their coloration and role in society.

[Norway] Brown Rat Folk: 4' tall anthropomorphic brown rats who came in large numbers during colonization. Their original nation is long forgotten; they are firmly part of colonial culture. They are owners of industry, purveyors of disease, and slumlords. They live in great wealth in half-submerged mansions.

Cinereous Vulture Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic turkey vultures. They are a ruling class nation known for their love of great feasts of carrion. Infamously, they starve their servants and slaves in order to keep them too weak to fight back and feast in front of them to taunt them. Those among them who reject these traditions are mocked and outcast.

Great Crested Grebe Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic grebes. An imperial nation who have long made the colonial lands a vacation home, they were once nomadic and now live double lives, keeping special homes in the colonies and in the imperial core. They are known for their hatred of children, pawning off their own to boarding schools or servants, raising them to replicate their hatred. The origins of this cultural prejudice is unknown, but some believe they engage in child sacrifice as well.

Greylag Goose Folk: 6’ tall anthropomorphic geese. Everyone knows geese are assholes. The geese folk of the region are slavers, conquerors, and allies to the colonists. They have powers of dominance and intimidation, and they are known for their brutality.

Hooded Crow Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic crows. The crow folk of the empires have been seduced to power. They are part of the ruling classes, colonizers from Crow’s Reach, where they are manipulative, cruel tyrants. They have magical powers of manipulation and contracts that they wield to control the oppressed. Those few who reject this culture are themselves oppressed.

[Common] Kestrel Folk: 6’ tall anthropomorphic kestrels. A nation of raptor folk who are part of the imperial forces who came to conquer and control. They have embraced the magic of thorn and jade, the power to steal identities and hearts and bodies, using it to make themselves more powerful warriors. They are extremely arrogant as a culture, and those who do not make the grade as warriors are cast out and scorned.

King Ratsnake Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic ratsnakes. From Benhoras and other empires, these ratsnake folk have killed their own emotions in order to become ruling class warriors, soldiers, and conquerors. They are powerful wielders of emotional magic and a major part of the colonial ruling class.

Least Weasel Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic weasels. Ruthlessly ambitious, the weasel folk of the colonies are a major part of the ruling class. They have crushed others to become more powerful and wealthy, joining their imperial cousins in the halls of power. Their original culture is long since forgotten, and they have assimilated into the wider culture of the empires. Those few who reject it find only fragments of what once was.

[European] Mink Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic minks. Their culture is one that values appearance and superficial features over anything of substance. They live in splendor and wealth, or the rich among them do, and the poorer among they cling to forgotten ways of glamour magic that have been corrupted.

Parasitic Jaeger Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic jaegers. Known for their use of blood magic and their cultural belief that they have the right to exploit, steal, and feed off the work of others, they are a nation of skua (water bird) folk that has long been part of the ruling class along the coasts of the empires. They are enthusiastic in their role as colonizers.

[European] Perch Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic perch. These fish folk have forgotten their original culture in favor of the Church of the One, sometimes called the One True God, a powerful organized religion out of Harkanheim, one of the major empires of the east. They are extremely fanatical and often proselytize, and anyone who rejects their religion is cast out or killed.

[Common] Shrew Folk: 3’ tall anthropomorphic shrews. A nation of shrew folk living in the cities. Their small nation developed into a major force even before they took up being colonizers, taking slaves and developing patriarchal customs, and after a brief conflict, quickly sided with the colonizers early on. They are known for their cruel treatment of women within their culture, which they practice out of fear for the liberating power they once held. A group of them broke off long ago and sought to maintain the old ways, and in spite of attempts to wipe them out, they still survive among the oppressed..

Sperm Whale Folk: 9’ tall anthropomorphic sperm whales. These whale folk believe in a form of predestination, claiming that anything bad that happens to people is the will of their god, the Six-Tailed Whale. Their faith is one that refuses the right of the oppressed to better their lives - saying it is an affront to the Divine Will - and very convenient to the ruling powers among them.

Stingray Folk: 6’ tall anthropomorphic stingrays. Coming from the eastern parts of the oceans, these folk are part of the Church of the Redeemer. They are revered in the Church because the deeps of the ocean are believed to be a major part of the eschatology of their faith. They hold themselves as elite and predestined to salvation, and thus, they believe they can do anything in life.

[Atlantic] Sturgeon Folk: 7’ tall anthropomorphic sturgeons. They once were prominent in the empires, but more live now in the colonies than not. They are a major force of the colonizers, part of their first wave, due to their nomadic patterns under the seas. They are a ruling class nation devoted to maintaining a specific narrative, one that keeps the oppressed ignorant, and controlling education and information.

[Common] Toad Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic toads. This nation is known for their loud voices, stereotyped as boisterous and badly off key in their singing. They are very rich and powerful as a nation.

[Common European] Viper Folk: 5’ tall anthropomorphic vipers. Viper folk are known for their belief in rigid individualism. They are a major ruling class nation, one that is considered arrogant and cruel by those they oppress, but well respected among the powerful.

Walrus Folk: 8’ tall anthropomorphic walruses. A small nation of big folk, the walrus nation of the colder reaches are known for their trading acumen, their cunning, and their use of every advantage in pursuit of what they want. They were once a hunter-gatherer culture, but they assimilated into the empires long ago and became one of the more powerful ruling class nations in their localities. Now they have come to the colonies seeking distinct advantages there.

[German] Wasp Folk: 6’ tall anthropomorphic wasps. 6' tall anthropomorphic wasps. They were early colonizers, and now they dwell in splendor and martial pride. They are wielders of the power of destruction; their stings break bones and their spit is acidic.

[European] Water Vole Folk: 3’ tall anthropomorphic voles. Their old culture is kept by the peasants and indentured servants they keep of their own people, with its folk religion that lives in fear of a hollowed out being who lurks in the shadows.

Whiskered Bat Folk: 4’ tall anthropomorphic bats. Bat folk with a connection to frenzy, the madness of the places none should go. Some few resist the violence of their minds long enough to be functional.

Wild Boar Folk: 6' tall boar folk with dark grey fur, massive tusks, piggy eyes, and hooves and tails. They have a tradition of using baleblood to empower themselves, and many of them end up becoming baleful. They joined the colonization as a powerful force of shock troops and conquerors, and they consider themselves the most elite soldiers of the imperial militaries. They are known for their extreme violence and racism. Many older boar families are extremely wealthy.

[Eurasian] Wolf Folk: 6’ tall anthropomorphic wolves. Many wolf people came over the seas from the empires. Among them were those who brought fell powers of nightmare and terror, powerful magicks of infernal origin that allow them to control and demoralize. Some few have rejected these ways, but they are oppressed and rejected by the more powerful wolf folk.
