Simon Grimoire

The most famous of all grimoires, the ancient collection of Simon Island. It contains ancient and rare songs only the Simon family has access to, and the rest of it is the template for magical study the world over - abridged versions that contain only the beginners to moderate spells are commonest in the world, with some also offering advanced to elite for more dedicated students. The rare and ancient spells exist only in the original, kept in the Simon Island Academy vault.

Vopiscus Simon

The wizard said to have originated the first edition of the grimoire was Vopiscus Simon, twin to Attius Simon, who he is said to have accidentally killed when they were both children. Vopiscus was traumatized by the event and secluded himself into study and research. The grimoire became his obsession and contribution to the study of magic around the world.

Simon Island

On First Shem, it is said Simon Island was founded as a safe haven for magic users of all kinds. By Second Shem, it expanded its study to all esoteric matters. After the Death of Magic, the island became a ruin, but on Third Shem, it was revived, once more with its sole focus being magic and the education of mages, wizards, and other users of mana. Not far from Merukis, it is protected by powerful spells that mean only those invited or in need may reach them.

Simon Academy

The World Academy of Magic, also known as Simon Aacdemy or Simon Island Academy or even just "SIA", is run by the Simon family, the ancient family of mages who date their line back to First Shem. It is there that the grimoire is kept and all of its variations produced, and there that the most elite users of magic are trained. Because they set the standard for magic the world over, they are subject to the worldwide class struggle. For fear of retribution, they maintain access to the spells they have recorded based on the demands of the world around them. As such, they categorize magic by its power and by what world governments have demanded of them.

History

There have been seven editions of the grimoire. The original was made by Vopiscus and contained about two-thirds of the spells listed. The second edition was the first abridged version designed for student. The third edition was an expanded edition based on new spells discovered. The fourth and fifth editions were results of editing and censorship, and the sixth edition included all modern spells. The seventh edition is as below.

Study Copies

Study copies are abridged variations based on power level. The Beginner's Guide to Magic is all beginner, basic, and common spells not classified as "Forbidden". The Standard Student's Guide to Magic is everything from beginner to advanced. The Advanced Book of Magic is just moderate to elite. The Great Simon Grimoire includes all spells up to and including the rare spells, but not the forbidden ones. The "original set" is the seven editions of unedited, unabridged magic, all spells below included and classified as follows.
