Wizard

A wizard is someone who keeps a spell book called a grimoire and uses it to cast spells. Unlike a magician, who channels innate powers through a wand, or a mage, who uses rituals that they create themselves, a wizard uses formulas already set. As such, their spellcasting is more stable, but they must have a developed collection of magic in order to be effective.

Grimoires

Grimoires are written by thaumaturges (some wizards may also be thaumaturges), who experiment to create new spells and copy down the formulas in order to share them.

Formulas

Spell formulas are much like a mage's rituals, but they cannot be altered. They require words, actions, and ingredients, though the latter are minimal. Mostly, they are spoken.

Ingredients

Like with a mage's rituals, the ingredients for a wizard's spells are mostly commonly found natural materials, but some rarer and more powerful spells require something more potent.

Hats

All wizards have special hats. These hats are part of a long tradition, but they have a practical purpose of containing spells that protect the wizard from backlash on failed spells (or other magic). A wizard without their hat becomes vulernable.

Staves

Some wizards use staves which they have created through a common spell. These staves allow them to store up to 11 spells to use at will.

Familiar

Wizards have familiars much as witches and other esotericists do, but their familiars are more independent. They must find a relevant animal and keep it still during the casting of the right spell to bond with it.

All Spells

Wizard spells affect other forms of energy, allow for comfortable living, or protect from other powers. Backlash
