L'au is the art of improving others with the jewels of dumaqu. They can be accessed for power in several ways:

• Making something out of them as a present for another
• Binding them to another physically
• Using them in an effigy or symbol of another
• Using them to direct light into another

Making them into a present for another is the most direct form. It is much like simply using them in an object for duqqu, but there must be an intention in the making for it to be given to another person for a positive reason. This will give them +1 in a skill or ability related to the facet of the jewel for as long as they own the object.

Binding them to another physically is done by replacing a part of another with the jewels via surgery. The jewels are not very big, but they can function as almost any organ within a person as long as they are installed by a capable surgeon. Eyes (+4), fingernails (+1), hearts (+9), kidneys (+3), testicles (+6), ovaries (+6), and small bones (+2) are the most common uses for them. This will give a bonus in a skill or ability related to the facet of the jewel for upwards of a century, depending on the organ and health of the person.

Using them in effigy or in a symbol of another is done through simple ceremony of construction, and depending on the quality of the effigy or appropriateness of the symbol, the person will gain between +1 and +6 in a skill or ability related to the facet of the jewel for a year.

The ceremony of directing light via duqqu can be altered by directing the light out to another. This will infuse the person with the light of dumaqu no matter if they are focusing on it or not, instantly, and will last for a day per jewel, giving +6 in a skill or ability related to the facet of the jewel.
