Special liquid light created by
Sedeia, the Lightbringer, to preserve the
Lesedian Mirror and the lamps of the
luminaires. It exists in a pool in
Lesedi, protected by powerful mystics. The liquid light never runs out, but any attempt to take the entire pool causes it to become actual light and flee.
If a small amount is taken, it lasts for a year and a day; no more than a cupful can be taken at a time by a single person, and no more than 25 cups may be taken in total during that year and a day. In order to preserve the pool and keep others from abusing its power, the people of Lesedi and the guardians of the pool and mirror maintain 20 cups in protected places within their city and surrounds, leaving only five available cups to others, which they are very selective about rewarding.
Every morning, the tenders of the Lesedian Mirror take the 20 cups and wash the Mirror with them, then refilling them and placing them back in their protective spaces.
A cup of the water has an
aetherial power of 25, emitting 25 points of
the bright and illuminating up to 1 mile as if it were high noon, but not more intense at the source than at the edge. If used to wash anything, it will scour the target of any
infernal essence, especially
brown aether. If used to cook or bake with, it will imbue that which it is used with with aetherial power and clear the mind of those who consume it (it does NOT make bad food good, however, nor does it remove any natural or non-infernal poisons - it has no flavor at all).
The liquid light interacts with specific materials in certain ways:
- Aetherial Objects: non-bright, non-shadow aetherial objects are improved in power by +3 if washed in this.
- Bright Objects: bright aetherial objects are improved in power by +6 when washed in this.
- Brown Aether: anything containing brown aether erupts in brightfire and is destroyed by this.
- Fire: it turns hot fire into heatless flame, a neutral source of light, and aetherial fire (lahab al'qalb or ma'dhahabi) into heatless aetherial fire.
- Lamps and Lanterns: if used in place of oil in an oil lamp or used to wash or otherwise applied to any kind of lamp or lantern, it amplifies the light emitted and causes it to be aetherial.
- Laser: any attempt to apply this to something that focuses the light into a laser or similar creates a beam of aetherial light that obliterates anything infernal in its path.
- Magnifying Glass: any use of this on a magnifying glass acts like a weaker version of the laser.
- Mirrors: when used on a mundane mirror, it turns that mirror into a revealing mirror, making it reveal what is actually there and eradicate illusions and distortions.
- Prisms: any prism washed in this liquid light creates a dazzling display of aetherial power for a few seconds and makes the prism permanently aetherial.
- Shadow Objects: shadow aetherial objects are turned into anumun-imbued objects if washed in this.
- Water: when mixed with mundane water, it weakens the Metsi a Benyang equal to the amount of water added to it. Aetherial water, however, amplifies its aetherial power.
- Windows: when used on mundane windows, it causes the mirror to remain clear for a year and a day.
