Euentomologer
A wielder of some but not all
celestial essences to interact with and create works of wonder from living insects. Most commonly, they use
angel insects,
ants,
butterflies,
caddisflies,
checkered beetles,
crickets,
damselflies,
ichneumon wasps,
mantos,
rolypolies,
hover wasps,
shield bugs,
squash beetles, and
yellow jackets.
Works of Wonder
Imagine a painting that, when you get close, turns out to be made up of butterflies. Imagine a sculpture made by ants and wasps, one that is alive with them. Imagine a mosaic of living insects, or a concert by crickets. Imagine art with living insects, and that is what euentomologers create. Their works inspire wonder, which amplifies the
euphotonia in the world. They also wield other celestial essences in their work, sometimes creating art that has more purpose than just wonder, but all works are focused on inspiration primarily.
Light Inspiration
The inspiring light of euphotonia is the primary energy wielded by a euentomologer in the creation of their works. They use it to inspire the insects to move how they wish. They direct it through special magnifying glasses, and they capture it through the wings of butterflies.
Entomology
In order to work art with insects, one must study them intently, and they must know what esoterica each insect is associated with, if any, and to know the mundane from the magical. And they must know the materials, magics, and other means that will direct them, influence them, or drive them to form the works the euentomologer wishes to create.
Insects
The insects used by euentomologers are extremely diverse, but only certain ones generate celestial essences when used in their works. These allow the to create true wonders.
- Angel insect: termite-like in appearance, these (often) winged insects are very small, have mandibles and palps, and are very gregarious. They are said to be inherently blessed, and thus, their touch can make regular water into celeste water. However, since they are so tiny, even a large number of them only generate a small amount. Euentomologers know how to coax them into generating just enough for their complex works. There are no kinds of angel insect that are not celestial, even if they are mundane.
- Ant: ants of almost any kind (except aetherial or infernal kinds) generate euergasia when they work together, and they produce it in notale amounts. A euentomologer knows how to work with them to be able to harness some of that energy to build their works.
- Butterfly: the go-to by euentomologers for any art piece is to first try to work with butterflies of any celestial or non-aligned variety. Butterflies are the basis of color, movement, and pattern for most euentomologers, no matter what kind of art work they intend to make.
- Caddisfly: euentomologers use caddisflies sparingly, but some have learned to tap into the insect order's ancestral memories so that they form intricate chains that reflect the evolutionary past of all insects. This helps them create stupendous works that stretch for great distances.
- Checkered beetle: the often colorful patterns on the chitin of checkered beetles makes them a preferred part of the medium, but their natural tendency to generate or use banaru as part of their minor gregarious behavior makes them a useful insect for works that wish to bring people together.
- Cricket: the finest insect musicians there are, they are extremely commonly used in the work of a euentomologer, especially those who incorporate sound more regularly. Their euphonic strains are also excellent for generate moods or harmony amongst listeners.
- Damsefly: these beautiful lake-dwellers are often found to contain or otherwise interact with jewels of dumaqu, and thus they are oft sought for their beauty and intricacy.
- Ichneumon wasp: a wasp known for taking on bigger spiders, its behavior generates glory energy, and is thus useful for works that wish to inspire acts of defiance and standing up for oneselves.
- Manto: also known as "gladiators" or "rock crawlers", these small, usually green, wingless insects are known to join up against bigger insects and other foes, thus sparking tiny bits of liberation energy. They are the symbol of some resistance groups, and they are used to inspire resistance.
- Rolypoly: happy little pill bugs, tiny playful rolypolies make me happy, and they make happy art works, too.
- Hover wasp: the hover wasps, named for one of their flying abilities, create colonies that are often bonded via yahas, and thus, they are often used by euentomologers seeking to create art that brings people together and inspires mutual protection.
- Shield bug: diverse, heavily armored insects who are good for making patterns and creating structure in works; they also create hegnhic protections.
- Squash beetle: the spotted yellow beetle is known to spray radiance when it moves, and thus is used often in euentomological works.
- Yellow jacket: powerful wasps known for defending their own and being powerful in attack; they are associated with justice and lhair, and they are used in art to evoke that.
Inspiration
What a work inspires varies by the intent of the artist and by project. What is possible includes but is not limited to
- Unity: bringing people together is a very common intent.
- Resilience: lifting up people who have fallen on hard times.
- Defiance: inspiring people to reject the unjust or oppressive.
- Bravery: inspiring people to take on difficult opponents.
- Resistance: inspiring more organized opposition to oppression.
- Inner strength: inspiring internal defenses against upcoming attacks.
- Wonder: a sense of interest in how and why things are with a depth of surprise to it.
- Trust: inspiring people to trust the artist or to trust others.
- Faith: inspiring faith in celestial Divinity.
- Joy: inspiring actual happiness.
- Hope: inspiring a sense that things will eventually turn out all right.
- Determination: inspiring the will to keep fighting for the right thing.
Magnifying Glasses
The most important tool of a euentomologer is their magnifying glass. Any magnifying glass will do if they have the euphotonia to capture, but if not, they can find special crystal ones that will draw euphotonia to it.
Societal Role
Being such a rare practice, and an odd one, few states have any specific laws about euentomologers. Many have laws about insects, and euentomologers often find themselves in trouble at the border. Repressive states who target use of celestial magicks will include them in their broader laws, and socialist states celebrate them, so long as they don't use their powers for dangerous purposes or cause ecological issues with their insects. They are celebrated mostly in Taggarus, Dabusen, Palhur, Lyrilla, and Gyrah.
