Metahumans who devour emotion.
Taxonomic Order: Metahumans
Alignment: Infernal
Energy: Desumane
Lifespan: 70 - 100 years
Diet: Emotion and common mortal fare
Habitat: Temperate plateaus
Empathic humans who adapted to cruel devouring of emotions to turn others into slaves.
Bocadors appear to be human.
Bocadors reproduce sexually as humans do. If they reproduce with other metahumans, the offspring’s species is that of the birth parent. They cannot reproduce outside of humans and metahumans without supernatural intervention.
Bocadors are resistant to fear and intimidation.
Bocadors have empathic senses; they can sense what others are feeling when they are nearby.
They can also consume emotions via touch. If they completely drain an emotion, that emotion is permanently gone from their victim. If they consume enough emotion, they drain the victim’s willpower, making them a pliable slave.
If they drain enough people of emotion, they are able to convert that power into stat boosts.
They do not need to consume emotion to survive.
If they consume too much love or compassion, they risk losing their emotion consuming powers.
There are five bocador nations:
Ghulgk: a nation in Wymmera.
Nimizur: a nation in Srisia and Crow’s Reach.
Povo: the original nation in Benhoras.
Vitula: a nation in Furich Amol and Urayme.
The Povo are a powerful ruling class nation in Benhoras. They are one of the earliest nations to leave feudalism behind. They took up slave-trading, colonial practices, and early, ruthless capitalism in the form of Mundial, a worldwide trading company founded by six powerful families. Through Mundial, they have suppressed all traces of culture, caring, and community in their nation, turning it into a corporate entity driven to nothing but profit and exploitation.
At the bottom of the corporate ladder are slaves. These are people of any species or nation, captured by the Povo’s slaving ships, and traded the worldover. They are major trading partners with Urayme, Furich Amol, Krevzuk, and other slave-based countries; they as often just offer their services in draining slaves.
The owners of Mundial always belong to a handful of Povo families who also have ties to and control much of Benhoras. They don’t participate in Benhoran culture, but they manipulate it such that they are able to siphon powerful emotion from the populace. They have no music, no traditions, nothing of their own - they simply mimic others’ cultures because they have so killed their emotions that none of it matters to them.
They do not raise their own children; slaves do the basic work. They do not teach their children anything; servants do. Eventually, they send them to boarding schools and colleges to train them as elite corporate managers. They are everything the mammonites wish they were.
The other national cultures vary only in what cultures they embed themselves in:
Ghulgk: in Wymmera, they manipulate the Baleful to their own ends and are more likely to be warriors.
Nimizur: in Srisia and Crow’s Reach, they compete with crow folk and kashirum for dominance in ruthless cultures.
Vitula: in Urayme and Furich Amol, they are elite amongst the slavers.
Yfwr: in Deseria and Mwyr Aeld, they are part of the ruling class nations, which they compete with for power.
Bocadors are beings of desumane and its most dangerous wielders. They also commonly wield drenante, imperium, razdavit’, quaestus, thorn energy, and corrogatio. They are fond of all infernal energies and all emotional energies. They almost never use celestial or aetherial energies.
Though bocadors rarely even have the capacity for true faith emotionally, they push a religion on the populace of worshiping O Abismo, a great unknowable Divine who encourages emotionlessness as a form of perfect unity with the world - in truth, they are encouraging ruthless cruelty and masking it as freedom from desire. In truth, they encourage nihilism. They adapt their church to the cultures they are feeding off of.
Bocadors don’t care about gender personally, but they find enforcing patriarchal norms useful.
The Povo are capitalists.
The Povo keep a slave army of heartless warriors designed to kill without pity. They call them açougueiros. They also have a powerful slave-taker force called coletors.
Their language is Portuguese.
They mostly trade in slaves, but Mundial has control of many industries and companies.
Some major roles include the following:
Açougueiro: warriors
Coletor: slave-takers.
Escorredor: tyrants who run Mundial.
Most people don’t even realize bocadors aren’t empaths. They lie about their own existence and keep themselves hidden in board rooms and mansions beyond the reach of the people.
