The drone is a three-armed quadcopter, each arm equipped with a different tool - a six-sided flower-petal grabber for non-flat objects; a combination scissor and clamp for flat objects such as cloth, paper, leather, or hair; and a hypodermic needle capable of drawing blood through skin or other liquids from open containers. A fae true name is stretched between the two control modules, providing it with narrative control (someone must provide the same control orally as is input manually to the controller), as well as a vanish function, which can optionally detach the name from the drone's control module, and briefly gives the drone autonomous decision-making capabilities. The drone is coated with chronomagical protection from anomolies, and the aeromagical rotors have both flight and teleport modes. The teleport function is bound to three buttons with the following parameters: blink 3 meters forward (from the drone's perspective), recall to 1 meter in front of the controller, and go home to the drone carrying case. Finally, the drone is equipped with a non-magical camera with triple low-light, wide angle, and telescopic lenses. The remote control is a twin-stick controller with buttons or triggers for each of the functions described above, and an integrated remote viewfinder for the camera.

Description and History

Designed and built as a mechanical by a logistics union for new workers. An's design was inspired by the Stayflian Talos mechanicals. It is made of copper-alloy and has a single vein running from its neck to its ankle and bound closed by a single bronze nail. It has special sensors that allow it hypervigilance and the ability to remain alert even when in rest mode, and it is designed to withstand weather and long-term wear and tear.

An drives what is known as the Pentacontinental Loop, a massive long haul running from northern Jesenranu (the area around northern Colesh), down through the Island Bridge, an optional loop around Mahad, down the next leg of the Island Bridge, an optional loop around Taggarus, across the next leg of the Bridge to Dabusen (with another optional series of loops through that continent), and down the southern leg of the Island Bridge to Palhur, with a non-optional loop through that continent. It is the longest continuous trucking run in the world, measuring out in hundreds of thousands of miles. While airships and magical shipping make up much of the logistics work in the world, the long-haul truckers still make up the backbone of worldwide logistics.

During a haul through the leg of the Island Bridge between Taggarus and Dabusen, An and some fellow truckers in a small convoy ran into flooding that left them stranded in a remote area. All four of them realized at this time that certain esoteric powers might complement their driving skills and allow them to avoid such traps in the future. Each one enrolled in public schools to seek more knowledge; An learned truth magic, the power to use True Names that could enhance his truck to keep a true route and operate at optimum longer.

After studying in school, An took a vacation to the Grey Moon and got stuck for a year amongst the mirror cities of the surori.

It is sometimes harsh and cagey, leaning into the stereotype of an emotionless mechanical, but sometimes tries to overcompensate by emulating biological emotions. It does this in a manner it views as truthful, speaking entirely in questions or being inappropriately honest.

Truck

The Megálivólta [Athens] Motors 1146 Heavy Modular Tractor, "the 46"

An's truck is powered by True Names and honest living. As long as An remains true to itself and does not deceive others to gain power, the True Names that are inscribed on the truck will power and improve it. The truck can haul 100,000 lbs. It is a 20,000-lb. 18-wheeler truck, but clean fueled (either the True Name or special aetherial fuel used by most vehicles in the far future). It is armored against bad weather and has emergency esoteric shield for morag attack (genesis-infused sheathing that can be activated from within the cab or the trailer). Its wheels and axles are made of nahasite and its tires are made of hyperdurable silico-rubber. It has a climate-controlled cab and trailer, hyperluminous headlights with variable shielding that allows them to be full-bright and yet not blind other drivers, a clear-coat chemical protection for the windshield for all-weather (never freezes over, crack-resistant, glare-resistant), and an inflatable rescue set (series of rafts that auto-inflate for sudden flooding which can carry the truck about 20 feet. Its backup fuel tank uses the usual compressed compound-aetherial brick (CAB) that kicks in if the True Name runs out of juice. It comes with access to satellite radio with every imaginable kind of music, radio play, metacast [podcast], news, etc.

I based the truck's weight on the fact that modern 18-wheelers are on average 35,000 lbs. and assume that in the far-future, they would be lighter but tougher.
*** If the world record for speed is ~27 MPH, that's the 22 for human speed; the truck's speed is scaled to that accordingly.

True Names

6 True Names: each True Name is represented by a word that sums up what it represents. One for the engine, one for the trailer, one for steering, one for the wheels (shared across all of them), one for fuel, and one for the headlights

• Maaasahan: True Name used to keep the engine reliable and functional.
• Matatag: True Name used to keep the trailer steady and secure.
• Pagtapak: True Name used to keep the wheels intact, on the road, avoiding dangers.
• Paningin: True Name used to make the headlights reveal hidden dangers, show things as they truly are, and remain bright.
• Pinagmulan: True Name used as fuel.
• Tumutugon: True Name used to keep the steering column responsive and reactive to both driver and dangers in the environment.
• Bronze Coat: True Name used to allow the 46 to have a wolf mecha form.

The International Union of Logistics Workers

• Fakhrul: a Mahadi union member who works at the checkpoint where the northern Island Bridge meets the continent of Mahad; one of An's main contacts on the Pentacontinental. Fakhrul is a jinni, an administrator, and a weigh-station attendant. He always talks with An about conditions on the road so as to warn others coming through.
• Jirair: an Arterean [Armenian] union member from western Dabusen who retired from driving to become an instructor and guide in the treacherous mountain passes there. A mouflon man, he always hated sitting in the stuffy cab that always meant his horns got jammed. He is a mountain ranger.
• Radus: a shapeshifter from Fraxan [Montenegro] who is An's union steward and main point of contact with the union in general. As steward, they are a political operative, coordinator, scheduler, and advocate for the workers. They are 67 years old and thinking of retiring, but everyone knows they're a unionperson for life.
• Schimatístike: a Stayflian mechanical and truck driver who was made around the same time as An. Called Schim for short, it is a similar design (Talos-esque). Schim got involved in politics with the union after being stranded alongside An on the bridge and studied euergasia, becoming a unifier.
• Shefqet: a Divi [Albanian] ogre truck driver who got stuck on the Pentacontinental with An. He gave up drinking after that and took up study of tahalana and the powers of journeying in order to make the long trips easier. He is a yaatree who knows many tales now.
• Vangelija: a gorgon serpentine truck driver who was there during the stranding on the Pentacontinental. She realized some control over weather might be helpful and went to study the use of bijalee, or storm aether. High femme tempestarii.
• Yewubdar: an imyuka from eastern Taggarus who works as the union's main logistics coordinator for the entire continent. She can speak any language and knows every trucker who makes the Taggaran loop of the Pentacontinental personally. She makes a point to know much about them, so she can make recommendations on who takes which run.

Pentacontinental Contacts

• Gulumbu: a Wondram [indigenous Australian] artist who paints trucker's trucks for free if they let her use her own designs. She makes sure they're bright and beautiful for the world to see.
• Ikhman: a Tunvohian [Malaysian] green folk papaya tree person and former revolutionary who actually fought in the revolution 800 years ago; he was once a powerful warrior and is now a cheerful drunk at the checkpoint rest stop between northeastern Dabusen and the southern Island Bridge. He likes to tell stories to the truckers about a great event during the war where union truckers played a pivotal role in blocking a military convoy.
• Khadne: a Coleshi [Nenets] poskakushka fairy rest stop attendant who works at the northernmost stop on the Pentacontinental. She is always friendly to An and helps it find a place to go into rest mode safely. She has a knack with fire that lets her keep people warm.
• Marilag: a Vada'daro [Filipino] diwata kamatuuran who taught An truth magic at university. She is helped An design the Names for its truck and keeps in contact. A friendly professor and mentor.
• Mukitou: an Ayisiniwak [Cree] human truespeaker who likes to chat with An about truth magic when it comes through. He uses a diffferent kind of truth magic, and therefore, he mostly talks theory with An. He/they are two-spirit.

Other

• Ernar Tagaev: a R'sheedi [Kazakh] jinni historian who refused the shipment that contained the Littany metal chainmail glove that An acquired. He is rude man who seems to have anti-revolutionary tendencies in terms of his view of history.
• Jujen Loeak: Lanahuetoan [Marshallese] iwi atua historian who died and left her belongings to Ernar, a massive collection that she stipulated in her will be trucked to her rival. She had quite a collection of historical relics dating back through multiple iterations of Shem.
• Panca: a Gamayaranese mechanical made of household objects who fought long ago in the revolution. It is now a musician who is close with An.
• Stylianos: a Stayflian mechanical classical (wings and all) Talos who is An's warrantor at the factory where An was constructed. Stylianos is An's contact if damaged or if issues come up with its design. Stylianos is friendly, reliable, and fascinated by the bodies of mechanicals. It is a member of the Assembly Workers Amalgamated Worker Council, which represents multiple kinds of factory workers.

Convictions

• The union will always be there.
• Truth is not a naturally existing phenomenon. It is a property of information within a mind. It cannot exist without falsity, and vice-versa. Deliberate deception is an act of violence against a sibling mind. Art is information-passing within a fabrication, therefore art that reveals a truth without unnecessary deception is the highest form of intimacy. Truth is strengthened by direct observation. An always wants to "see for myself", and may come off as distrusting because of this.
