The Sydan commune has worked hard to survive in the realm of the sky, but hard times forced them to seek help from the dragon Stratanian, who has called upon their services ever since. Their society has turned into one of service and survival. The Sydan commune began as a relatively large family - there were thousands of them created after Starfall. In fact, Hella's mother, Aina, was one of the very first members of the species. Unfortunately things turned quite sour around the time Hella was born - almost the entire community died after a mysterious plague swept through them. It took for the plague to wipe out almost the entire community, 1,000 people, until the Sydanpeople fled. They fled to the nearby city of Padeti in Paurev in Ranu, where a combination of apothecaries, healers and mages helped kill the plague. In return, the Sydan community pledged their allegiance to this city, vowing to serve it's members with their services - which also offered the Sydan protection. Now, there are only 30 or 40 members of the commune left - and with the average age of a male so low, their entire existence is in jeopardy. The members of the commune hear whispers of a Dragon in Gyrah who is looking for help. Hella decides that the commune should help this Dragon, in the hopes that he may grant them some kind of favour. They appeal to the city court for a discharge, who have no use for them anymore anyway, and they set off to Gyrah - and to Stratanian.
