| Description | At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, slate dragons grow to be huge, muscular reptilians with eight legs, two triceratopsian heads, and a tail ending in a thagomizer. Their scales are slate grey. |
| Procreation | Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching. |

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. Other common powers include soul or power drain, characteristic steal, blood bonding, crushing blast, mindbreaking, mesmerizing, confusion gaze, and infernal aura. |
| Alternate Forms | Slate dragons sometimes take the form of a qalathaan if they must. |

| Subspecies | Draco dominus is when a slate dragon has become overwhelmingly dominating and merged heads into one massive, thirty-horned head. These dragons' dominating presence is undeniable, and they consume the power of those they dominate until they are altered completely, turned into another kind of dragon entirely by new energies. |
| Culture | Slate dragons are beings of dominance and conquest. They dwell in the dark mountains of Malaer, in small kingdoms where they create slave-armies with which to conquer neighboring areas. They use their slaves to care for their young, which they enslave once they are old enough to serve. They dominate lesser dragons and consume their powers if need be, taking over their hoards, and procreating via rape, unless they form a rare alliance for the purpose of mating or further conquest. They are often deposed by younger dragons, and almost no slate dragon reaches an old age. Those that do usually become draco domini and transform, most often into sable dragons. |
