Infernal Deneg

Spirit folk and terata under 4' tall with inherent infernal powers.

Bugiardo

Masked small folk.
  • Lifespan: 120 years
  • Diet: Common fey fare
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class or Privileged oppressed
Bugiardos appear to be 4' tall masked figures. Under their masks there is nothing, no face, no darkness, no anything. However, they take on different forms at will as they collect False Names. Every mask is different.

Bugiardos start collecting names immediately upon birth. If they are born into bugiardo cultures, they are given names by every member of their family. If they are born into any other culture, they instinctively ask everyone they meet for a new name. For every twelve names they collect, they are able to form a False Name. They can only get one name from a person, and it must be given without knowledge of its use.

Once turned into a False Name, the twelve names can no longer be used for the bugiardo. They must always have at least one name that can be used for themselves, or their entire being is erased.

The False Names allow them to take false forms (the further the form differs from their original form, the quicker the False Name is used up, and the more powers the form has, the quicker the False Name is used up). They may also be used to alter their PRS or STH temporarily instead.

If they lose their mask, they die. If they ever learn their True Name or somehow obtain one, they are transformed into something else entirely permanently.

Bugiardos use their powers of deception to gain power. Their main nation in the region has inserted themselves into the halls of power, offering their arts and advice in deceiving the masses. There are those who are not part of the upper classes, and they live in fear of being exposed, hiding their selves as best they can.

Goblin

Small folk attuned to nightmares.
  • Lifespan : 120 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy fey fare
  • Habitat: Temperate to subarctic
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Small, nightmarish beings. Goblins vary in appearance, but usually have bat-like, pointed ears, fangs, claws, and green or grey skin. They stand about 4' tall, and often have pig-like snouts. Some are furry, some are not. Many are piebald.

Goblins produce a toxin that causes nightmarish hallucinations. This toxin comes out of their skin as sweat, is in their saliva, in their phlegm, and in their tears. They collect it and use it in their weaponry and magic.

They have powerful fey magic that is fueled by this toxin (called uafan toxin), and they sprinkle it on anything while chanting or making rhymes to make horrible illusions more real. Their different rhymes and chants may have other effects, and these vary by culture and nation.

There are many, many goblin nations around the world, and they all come with their variations. Some of these nations include alux, bauchan, bugbear, chaneque, coblyn, dokkaebi, douen, dunnie, duende, ettin, farfadet, gudrobonga, hobgoblin, iratxo, kuttichathan, menninkainen, muki, nuno sa punso, ponaturi, pukwudgie, shishiga, and trasgu. Consult the GM if you wish to play one of these specific ones.

Humbug

Small bug-like terata who have tempers.

  • Lifespan: 50 years
  • Diet: Detritus
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed

Humbug are 3’ tall beings with bulging insectoid eyes, sticky claws, and chitinous bodies. They have antennae. They are otherwise hominid, with human-like legs and big furry feet. One in a thousand have insectoid wings.

Humbugs are constantly annoyed and angry. They can alleviate this in one of two ways: displacing it onto others or by helping others. Culturally, they seek out and engage in the former far more often, to the point that most have no idea the latter is even possible. If a humbug engages in helping others and realizes they can be alleviated this way, they are often called liars and ostracized by their families, who rely on their powers of annoyance to make money. However, they also gain special powers that help others if they start doing so. A helpful humbug is called derogatorily a bughum, but some embrace the title. They are still the same species.

A humbug can vanish twice a day, becoming insubstantial for thirty seconds. They can move objects within 20’ with a spoken charm. They are able to sense what is the most frustrating change they can make to an area innately (where to move the toy so someone steps on it, how to shift a desk so someone runs into it, how to make the paintings off-center, etc.).

Humbugs can see in the dark.

Humbugs live in small family units, usually dwelling in slums and other crowded areas, where they can sneak into homes, businesses, or other places where they can mess things up and cause frustration in others to alleviate their own annoyance. They are often hired by slumlords and the rich to cause troubles in areas for the purposes of driving people out.

Humbugs are culturally embedded in most imperial societies and nuissances used against the unsuspecting. The rich often pay them for their services or to make them go away, while the poor and oppressed have to beg for help in getting rid of them. They are treated as pests by everyone, but they are proud of it.

Incustian

Subterranean folk who seek out metals.

  • Lifespan : 200 years

  • Diet: Stone

  • Habitat: Subterranean Realm

  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class or Privileged oppressed

Incustians are 4’ tall figures with large shells on their backs. They have red skin and eyes. They have no hair, but there are golden streaks along their bodies where their veins can be seen under their skin. They have sharp claws.

Incustians can shape mundane or infernal metals with their hands, without melting it. They are immune to heat and cold, and they can see in the dark. Their claws can rend stone. All incustians consume stone for nourishment. Their shells are very strong and can resist cave-ins.

Incustians live in massive cities underground, where their rulers are powerful miner barons, and their oppressed are miners. They make their cities out of metals, including gold, and they are known for their splendor. Incustians in the empires are either there as mining barons and experts, or privileged mine workers.

Spucker

Small folk who spew red slime.

  • Lifespan : 200 years

  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare

  • Habitat: Wastelands and industrial areas

  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class

Spuckers are 4’ to 5’ tall beings with red skin, pointed ears, pig snouts, and clawed hands. They have no hair and yellow eyes. Their backs have spines down them.

Spuckers have the ability to spit out red slime that makes anyone who touches it distrust, hate, dislike, or otherwise have negative thoughts and feelings towards anyone too different from them. Spuckers’ claws and spines have a toxin in them that cause people to lose their capacity to love temporarily. Using their slime always causes them to lose capacity for some positive emotion.

Spuckers are a powerful ruling class species who live in eastern wastelands, mountains, deserts, and urban centers. They are employed by more powerful people to held spread division and hatred, or they use it for themselves. Those who refuse to use this power usually end up with too much positive emotional capacity and lose the ability to wield it eventually; these spuckers are enslaved or killed.

Voederling

Small beings who feed off the sorrows of others.

  • Lifespan: 40-60 years
  • Diet: Common underground fare
  • Habitat: Watery caves
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class or Privileged oppressed

Voederlings are 4’ tall beings with pure white skin, blue eyes with no irises or pupils, and grey hair. Their skin is droopy and loose, and their bodies are stocky. They have watery eyes.

All voederlings are empathic. If they sense sorrow, sadness, grief, loss, or similar emotions in someone, they can feed off of it, but if they sense someone who is joyful or happy, they get even more out of that person’s sorrows if they cause them to lose their happiness. They do not need to eat sorrows; they use this to fuel magic, not their bodies. They eat fish, worms, fungi, roots, and other common underground fare.

If they devour enough sorrow, they gain certain powers, such as a wail that fills people with loss, the power to infuse their own emotions into objects they are making, and acidic tears.

They are born with resistance to cold and heat, darkvision, and a keen sense of smell.

Voederlings live in small family units in larger communities underground, usually near subterranean lakes or rivers. They are fishers and gatherers. Their communities are ruled by the strongest, most ruthless of them, and everyone else is a slave or servant to them. They like to make statues, cave art, and clothing out of roots and crystals. In imperial society, they are favored for their ability to keep underlings in line.
