Fey Plant Folk

Anthropomorphic plants with inherent fey powers.

Duilleog

Fey plant people.
  • Lifespan : 300 years
  • Diet: Vegetarian
  • Habitat: Temperate forests
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed

Fey people with plant-like features. They have a mostly human figure, but with leafy or flowery hair, bark-like patches, root-like feet, green or brown flesh, and various characteristics based on other plants. Their eyes are always colorful. They stand about 5' tall.

The duilleogs have many fey powers, based on ancient stories. They can speak to hawhtorn and birch trees, create rings of flowers to open portals, grant inspiration and creativity, help with divination, banish other magical beings, read dreams, and bring good luck, to name a few. If wronged, duilleogs have access to certain fey powers such as making people vanish, causing crop failures, and revoking fertility. Other powers are possible, if there's a folkloric root to it. Consult the GM.

Duilleogs dwell in secretive fey communities out in the forests and fields, using fairy rings or flower circles to open portals between their communities. They mark their graveyards with hawthorn trees. They are known for their beautiful flower displays, their relationships with farms and foresters, and their funerary practices. In the imperial lands, most are immigrants, but in Ranu, most live in Campurile.

Common plants that duilleogs are based on include the following: [Balkan] maple, black locust, black poplar, blackthorn, blue flax, cade juniper, charlock, coltsfoot, common alder, common box, common hawthorn, common hazel, common juniper, crosswort, elder, grey alder, grey birch, grey poplar, ground elder, holly oak, hornbeam, maiden sorrel, manna ash, meadowsweet, prickly juniper, sycamore, sycamore maple, tree heath, tree lilac, turkey oak, turkish hazel, white birch, white elm, white poplar, wild marjoram, willow, woodland hawthorn, and yellow flax.

Lioar

Plant fey with paper wings.
  • Lifespan: 200 years
  • Diet: Paper
  • Habitat: Fey lands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Lioars are 4' tall plant fey with mulberry skin and eyes, leafy and woody patches on their bodies, and big paper wings.

Lioars can turn into flat versions of themselves to allow their flying to become full-sailing, but mostly they just use their paper wings to fly short distances. They have three charms that allow them to control paper, turn wood into paper, and clear paper of any markings.

They are weak to fire, water, and not very tough.

Lioars are amongst the common folk of Faerie. They often work with paper crafts and arts, but they do all sorts of odd jobs as long as it doesn’t involve too much fire or water. In their own communities, they create complex paper constructs and buildings, create works of colorful art, and seek new lores. Imperials often exploit them for their powers.

Suighaiste

Bloody plant fey.
  • Lifespan: 1,000 years
  • Diet: Blood
  • Habitat: Fey verdance
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Suighaistes are 6' tall red-leafed plant fey with heads that appear to be fluffy red bee heads with fanged mouths.

Suighaistes feed on blood, usually from animals. They can smell blood from a distance, and different bloods consumed by them will give them different powers. Mundane blood is just food. Fey blood gives them the ability to glamour themselves or vanish. Celestial blood makes them heal faster. Infernal blood makes them better at killing. Elemental blood makes them grow more. And unaligned blood makes their own blood flow better.

Suighaistes live in fey societies and work as butchers, in slaughterhouses, or in other jobs that allow them access to animal blood. Many work on farms. But the most powerful become powerful wielders of blood magic and enter the ruling courts of Faerie. They are often sought out by imperials for their magic.

Vaundaakh

Plant people who grow with belief.
  • Lifespan: 500 years
  • Diet: Belief
  • Habitat: Fey lands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged opperssed
Vaundaakhs are 5' tall grass people who grow if someone or something believes the stories they tell.

Vaundaakhs grow stories out of their stalks and leaves. These stories are part of the history of their species. Some of the stories are remarkable, some are mundane. But all of them beg to be told. The more they tell them, the more there is a chance others will hear them and believe in them, and when this happens, it nourishes the vaundaakh. If they have enough belief stored up, they can use it to find even older stories to share. If they grow certain ancient stories, they gain charms that draw from the stories. PCs would have one of these potent charms.

Vaundaakhs seek and share stories. They are respected in Faerie as storytellers and keepers of the Lore and Tradition. They are powerful leaders among the ruling courts, advisers and administrators. In their own communities, they share their stories and seek sources of powerful belief. Imperials do not know how to interact with them.
