A kaukas is a trickster-like spirit with crow-like features. They cannot fly and are forbidden from carrying money. They are household spirits (or more specifically, barn or shed spirits) who serve those in the house if they are treated well. They wear green, blue, or red scarves. In daylight, they are hard to see, but fog or mist or moonlight will reveal them fully. When a kaukas comes to a household, they bring something as a present - wood chips, twigs, hay, or other things most mortals don't view as significant. If the owner accepts, having found it on their doorstep, the kaukas appears. From then on, the kaukas will help around the house if they are given bread, milk, and beer regularly. They often have random objects found in odd places thay others do not need anymore. They would work the fields, dig for treasures, and use some of that if need be. In spring, they would come to festivals in special animal-like masks, often with horns even if not appropriate to the animal. They would make facial hair out of feathers and wool as well. They would walk with a stick or wooden sword, and their guide would need a spindle and hoe. Kaukas are weak to fire and the sound of thunder.

Ovinniki are spirits of threshing houses (barns). They must be placated with blinies and roosters, or they will burn down the threshing house by igniting the grains within. They can alter fortune with their touch on the first day of the year, giving good luck with a warm touch and unhappiness with a cold one. Ovinniki appear to be black cat-like spirit people, often about 2’ to 3’ tall. They have mild shapechanging powers, but their eyes always appear angry. They are very hard to please.
