Elemental Metahumans

Magical humans with inherent elemental powers.

Celagar

Humans with the blood of the elemental hunt.
  • Lifespan: 70-120 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Wilderness
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Celagars are antlered humans.

Celagars have keen vision, smell, and hearing. They each have a special power relating to one of the spirits of the Sacred Hunt, whom they meet when they come of age:
  • Silver brocket: quick healing
  • White fawn: aura of kindness
  • Dappled pricket: joyful dance
  • Brown hind: protective touch
  • Golden calfe: discerning sight
  • Red hart: increased STR
  • Blue doe: sympathetic sense (for other prey)
  • Old buck: quick learning
  • Black stag: deadly PRO (no called shots to kill)
Celagars are a hunting culture. They live as nomads in forests and other wilds, and they worship the spirits of the Sacred Hunt, which represent sustainable hunting. They are led by their elders, and they believe in the cycle of life, death, and rebirth as a spiritual practice. They honor the other spirits of the hunt - the elemental Predator and Prey spirits, the fey Wild Hunt, and the unaligned Falcon Goddess - and oppose the imperial hunt.

Imperials heavily oppressed them.

Fulmenian

Metahumans who absorb lightning.

  • Lifespan: 70-100 years
  • Diet: Electricity or common mortal fare
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed

Fulmenians appear to be average humans.

All fulmenians absorb electricity as sustenance. Though they can eat as other humans do, they are energized and sustained by electricity as well. They are more prone to being struck by lightning, which feeds them for weeks at a time, and they can discharge it in smaller, weaker forms for a week after being struck. Their released energy depends on how much they have stored vs. how much they use for sustenance, so this can range from a small static charge to a moderate bolt.

If a fulmenian is in a crowd of people and struck by lightning, the lightning will only affect them. Because they are more prone to lightning strikes and because it is good for them, they usually go outside during storms.

Fulmenians are originally from the stormy coasts of lakes in the far south, but they have spread out and integrated into many human cultures. In their original culture, they have a focus on sport and sailing, taking risks, and communal living, but most in the Talunese city-states have fully integrated into the local culture, living as higher caste working class people with a little more interest in sports, sailing, or taking risks than others.

Khagal

Jewelled metahumans.

  • Lifespan : 70-120 years

  • Diet: Stones

  • Habitat: Subterranean Realm

  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed

Khagals are metahumans with jewels for eyes, teeth, hearts, and nails. Their skin is jewel-toned, their hair made of strands of malleable stone, and their bones made of solid rock. The type of jewels is always consistent throughout their body (i.e., if their eyes are diamonds, their teeth, hearts, and nails will also be diamonds).

Khagals can sense jewels and identify stone and rock anywhere within visual range. Their faceted eyes allow them to see 360 degrees around themselves. Their gemstone-hearts function like regular hearts, but they are as strong as the gemstone they are made of (thus resistant to attacks). The type of jewel they have also grants them a different power. Some examples include the following:

  • Agate: minor psionic power

  • Alexandrite: high die on attack rolls

  • Amber: cooking skill 8 or +3

  • Amethyst: good luck

  • Beryl: analysis 8 or +3

  • Carnelian: toughness 8 or +3

  • Chalcedony: empathic sense

  • Citrine: quick learning lores

  • Corundum: WIL 8 or +3

  • Diamond: appraisal sense

  • Emerald: singing 8 or +3

  • Garnet: absorb energies

  • Jade: sense highest score

  • Jasper: intimidation 8 or +3

  • Lapis lazuli: crafting 8 or +3

  • Onyx: resist faith 8 or +3

  • Opal: quick healing

  • Pearl: swimming 8 or +3

  • Peridot: misfortune aura

  • Quartz: spacebreathing

  • Ruby: entropic aura

  • Sapphire: PRS 8 or +3

  • Topaz: speed 8 or +3

  • Tourmaline: blood relation/found family sense

  • Turquoise: matrilineal bond

  • Zircon: jewel shaping 8 or +3

Khagals eat stone and can digest it normally.

They dwell underground in complex societies with tribes and groups based around different gemstones. They are often exploited by ruling casses for their gemstone sensing powers.

Kokeb

Metahumans empowered by the sun.

  • Lifespan : 70-120 years

  • Diet: Solar energy

  • Habitat: High tropical mountains

  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed

Kokebi appear to be humans with brightly colored skin (green, violet, or blue), hair as dark as the night sky with shining strands, and six fingers on each hand.

Kokebi can live with almost no air. They are warmed rapidly by even the smallest amount of sunlight. They radiate warm light from their skin and hair. At the cost of a great deal of energy, they can manifest sunfire in their hands, eyes, or mouths. Their emotions can affect the amount of warmth they radiate. They are immune to radiation.

In the high mountains they dwell upon, they are closer to the sun and able to float. If they are closer to the ground, gravity will take a stronger hold. They are also able to see greater distances when closer to the sun.

Kokebi come from the highlands of Shem, where they live in cities of gold. Their ancient culture is complex, revolving around worship of the sun. In the colonies, they are deeply oppressed and hated, many claiming them to be greedy and cruel tyrants in their homelands. Those who dwell on the moons have a more unadulterated connection to the sun, some of them living much closer to the sun.

Nongngeit

Humans who have respect for nature in their souls.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Fruitarian
  • Habitat: Wilderness
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Nongngeits are humans with bright green hair.

Nongngeits are born with souls that are attuned to the nearest wilderness. They can sense, when they enter wilderness, how they fit into it. If they visit a different wilderness, it takes them a day to gain the same sense for that place. If they have faith or belief in nature or an elemental religion, they automatically have bonuses to it. If they have faith in industrial beings or religion, they have penalties to it and sicken, though this does not kill them. If they have faith in any other aligned religion, it has no impact.

Nongngeits live in communal cultures in the depths of different wilderness, worshiping nature itself, Mother Shem, and the elementals that define an area. They harm nothing that is part of nature if they can help it, but they are not opposed to being part of the natural cycles of life and death if it comes up. They have many festivals and ceremonies through every year to mark time and the seasons, and they honor cosmic bodies. They are heavily oppressed by imperials.

Okoru

Humans who change shape with the tides.
  • Lifespan: 70-120 years
  • Diet: Fish-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Coastlands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Okorus are humans whose shape changes with the tides. At low tide, they are shorter and have black eyes. At high tide, they are taller and have silver eyes. During neap tides, these are more extreme. Most okorus also change other features during the shifting of the tides, but these vary by community - some grow fins during high tide and lose them during low, some grow tails and lose them, some grow esca and lose them (like the little light thing on an anglerfish), and some grow crab claws and lose them. Other aquafauna features are possible. Consult the GM.

Okorus are attuned to the moons and the tides. They always know what tide it is, and they always know the phase of the moons. They can see in the dark, breathe underwater, are resistant to cold, and can speak to crustaceans. One in five can walk on saltwater, one in five can turn into a wave once per week, and one in five can become invisible under a full moon, but none have more than one of these.

Okorus live in small coastal communities. They are fishers and sailors, and they have a religion of worship of the seas and the moons. They are led by elders in their communities and have many lunar celebrations and ceremonies. They are oppressed by imperials.

Paradofasm

Humans who can turn plants into fabric with a touch.
  • Lifespan: 70-120 years
  • Diet: Vegetarian
  • Habitat: Verdant regions
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Paradofasms are green-skinned humans with golden hair.

Paradofasms can take pieces of plants and turn them into fabric, approximately the same size as the piece they took. They unfurl tree trunks into reams of fabric, turn large leafs into fabric leafs, turn roots into coils of it, altering what they take into flat pieces. As they do this, the plants remain alive within the fabric, turning into flat plants. Paradofasms can then make living tents and clothing. If someone kills the plants in fabric form, they shrivel up and turn to dust.

Paradofasms are immune to poison.

They live in communities within forests, wetlands, and grasslands with a great deal of plants, which they use to make shelter and clothing. They are farmers, cultivators, orchardists, and gardeners, and they try to live closely with the plants they feed from. Imperials oppress them harshly and use them for their magic.

Parapuna

Empathic metahumans who live within flowing waters.

  • Lifespan : 70-120 years

  • Diet: Fish-heavy mortal fare

  • Habitat: Flowing waters

  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed

Parapunas appear to be humans with fish fins on their arms and heads, green skin, and hair made of glimmering waters.

Parapunas live in flowing waters - sea or river, ocean or waterfall - and can breathe under it, do not feel cold, and are not affected by pressure changes. They can go on land as well, though they need to return to flowing waters periodically. They have empathic senses that are amplified (range-wise) by ten if they are in water, and if they concentrate and focus, they can extend those senses to feel the emotions of anyone who has come in contact with the flowing waters within miles for a week or more. They can use these senses to glean complicated information.

Most come from island cultures, though they are found where flowing waters are around the world. In the colonies, they are either there as slaves, refugees, or natives. They are seen as seers and wise folk, and sometimes, they are exploited for this.

Qalba

Metahumans who ignite with intense passions.

  • Lifespan : 70-120 years

  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare

  • Habitat: Subtropical semi-arid regions

  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed

Qalbas appear to be humans with red and orange skin and fiery hair. Their eyes are burning embers, and their shadows are yellow flame.

When a qalba engages with their deep passions - whether hobbies, vocations, or relationships - the fires within them literally ignore, turning metaphor into reality. Their hair erupts, their hearts glow, and they can breathe flame if they choose. The less they wield these flames, the more they store up. If they do not use them within a few days, their insides burn, so they always need to find an outlet.

All qalbas have empathic senses.

Qalba society is one that focuses on art, inspiration, and mutual support for creative endeavors. They create with flame as much as anything else, using it to shape glass and metal or to fire pottery or other ceramics. These arts are world renowned, and many are taken slave or exploited for their abilities and crafts.

In the colonies, most are exploited workers for the rich and powerful colonizers.

Rezak

Hardened humans of the permafrost.
  • Lifespan: 60-100 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Permafrost
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Rezaks are blue-skinned humans with dark hair. They have tough skin.

Rezaks are resistant to the cold. They can smell heat. They can see in the dark, hibernate during the coldest month of the year, and can appear to be snow if they lie down in it. If they have hibernated within the last two months, they can freeze flesh or water with their touch once. One in five can speak to animals of the permafrost, one in five can ignore winds, and one in five can control snow with their voices, but never more than one of these. All rezaks are weak to fire.

Rezaks live in nomadic communities in the permafrost of the north and south polar regions. They are hunter-gatherers who are led by their elders. They make art from the animals they hunt as well as using them for shelter, food, and clothing. They hibernate together for one month (one full cycle of the Grey Moon) per year, usually the coldest month, and they believe in the spirits of the cold, the night, and the hunt. They are oppressed and enslaved by imperials.

Sokobautaihtuu

Hardened humans of the scrublands.
  • Lifespan: 60-100 years
  • Diet: Arid-region mortal fare
  • Habitat: Scrublands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Sokobautaihtuus are 5’ tall, hairy, hardened humans with rough, wrinkled skin. Most are deep tan in skin color, though, this varies by region. Their hair is usually short and curly.

Sokobautaihtuus need less water than other humans. They are resistant to heat and immune to sunburn. They can hunker down and appear to be a natural shrub if they are in the scrublands; outside of it, they must live in a place for at least a week to be able to match the local shrubberies. One in five sokobautaihtuus can speak to animals local to their scrublands, one in five can sense changes in the weather within their scrublands, and one in five can absorb fire within the scrublands, but none have more than one of these abilities.

Sokobautaihtuus live in the scrublands, arid regions with small plant life (bushes and shrubs), and live in nomadic communities. They are led by elders and the best gatherers in their group. They travel from watering hole to watering hole, herd goats and other hardy animals, and trade their stone and clay crafts with others in the area. They are oppressed in imperial society.
