Celestial Plant Folk

Anthropomorphic plants with inherent celestial or popular powers.

Dahonon

Gukata

Prudent shrub people.
  • Lifespan: 80-120 years
  • Diet: Photosynthesis, nutrients, water
  • Habitat: Forests and grasslands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Gukatas are 5' tall shrub-like people who prune themselves into different shapes. They have a hand that has sharp claws for pruning with.

Gukatas have an innate sense of caution and prudence. This sense alerts them to dangers, tells them if they are moving too quickly on something, and gives them a sense of when to reconsider a course of action.

Their clawed hand allows them to reshape their shrubbery bodies, and their forms can sometimes take on new powers depending on what they end up resembling. Most prefer hominid forms for ease of function in society.

Gukatas believe in being prudent, discerning, cautious, and meticulous. They are careful in everything, from the way they choose their leaders to the works they engage in to the art and hobbies they have. Their communities focus on creating very well designed farms. Imperials exploit and enslave them.

Kauhnak

Colorful, expansive, wondrous vine people.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Photosynthesis, nutrients, water
  • Habitat: Flowering forests and wetlands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Kauhnaks are 6' tall vine people made of many-colored vines and leaves, with a pod-head that is deep, dark green. They sprawl out in all directions, and each vine is either an arm or a leg.

Kauhnaks’ leaves and flowers fill people with wonder. If someone stares in the flower, they will be filled with the need to understand the world and its people. If they have a passion in life, such as an art, craft, or hobby, the wonder will drive them to be more creative (as long as it is not an infernal passion). Kauhnaks themselves are innately skilled at using colors in any work.

Kauhnaks live in a communal culture wherein they share their works and arts and entangle with one another in a great colonial organism wherein they share everything. They live in deep rainforests and also connect with plants, animals, fungi, and people in a wondrous mass that inspires anyone who sees it or touches it or becomes part of it. Imperials burn them on sight.

Laminaj

Plant people with Names on their berries.
  • Lifespan: 500 years
  • Diet: Photosynthesis, nutrients, water
  • Habitat: Temperate regions
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Laminajs are 6' tall anthropomorphic ephedra shrubs with True Names on their berries.

The True Names on the berries of laminajs are the Names of their future children. If the berry does not spread the seed and grow a new laminaj or get used for another power, the Name will diffuse into the world safely, but those that do grow into new laminajs are powered by truth. A laminaj who is true to themselves will bear stronger fruit.

All laminajs have seven berries. These seven Names are powers the laminaj can wield but once per Name if they are not planted to create children: require honesty from someone, reveal an objective truth, transform someone into their true self, reveal repressed memory, reveal True Name of target, reName target, or obliterate lie.

All laminajs have a lot of energy and need less rest than other mortals.

Laminajs live in coastal communities. They seek to create a communal Name that creates a peaceful, egalitarian, welcoming community. They live in small houses on the seashore and work on various boating projects. They are led by those who are Named leaders, but this can always be altered if need be. No one is subservient. Imperials attempt to destroy them.

Shkofeh

Sincere blossom-heads.
  • Lifespan: 80-120 years
  • Diet: Photosynthesis, nutrients, water
  • Habitat: Flowering regions
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Shkofehs are 5' tall beings with heads growing out of huge blossoms. They have plant-like bodies that have big leafy arms and legs.

Shkofehs’ blossoms reflect their true feelings and thoughts. Even if their face or voice or body says one thing, their blossom will always be brighter when they are sincere. If they maintain their sincerity long enough, they can sense insincerity in others, though they cannot always tell what the truth is. Truly powerful shkofehs can sense insincerities that even the person expressing it can’t tell is there.

Shkofehs believe in living the virtue of sincerity, in being true to themselves, their community, and the world. They have a spiritual practice that encourages spreading their beliefs but in a quiet and compassionate way, encouraging others to be themselves and be honest in general. They live in small communities led by elected elders, living equally and sharing all, but most spend time traveling in their youth. Imperials exploit them ruthlessly.
