Celestial Aliens

Species from other worlds or orbital bodies with inherent celestial or popular magic.

Ilaaliye

NPC only

Winged eyes who keep watch over mortality.

  • Lifespan: 5,000 years
  • Diet: Light
  • Habitat: Outer space and other realms of existence
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed - outcast and hated by ruling classes

Ilaaliye appear to be 10’ wide eyeballs covered in palest white flesh. On the upper half of their lids are two massive wings made of mulitcolored light, spanning about 30’ in either direction. They have colorful tentacles that flow behind them.

Ilaaliye can live in the emptiness of the other realms or in outer space. They fly through the planar realms on alert for infernal powers and other dangers. Their tentacles have the power to stun any infernal being.

Ilaaliye can see aligned energies over vast distances. They can also see mundanely over a similar distance - measured in the millions of miles - if they are in the Seams. In the Spirit Realm, they can still see over vast distances, but it is measured in hundreds of miles.

If they sense danger, they have the ability to send a message at lightspeed (via a lightbeam) to any target within the Angeldawn system if they have bonded with that being. The warning comes in the form of light which gives the target a vision of the nature of the incoming danger.

Because they are attuned to the void of space or other realms, when they are within orbital bodies of the solar system, they are weaker.

The ilaaliye live in small clusters that rove through the realms and space near the parts of it that are close to Shem or the related Celestial Realms. Because ilaaliye are attuned to energies, they move at supernatural speeds, following the flows of energies there. They seek sources of infernal power, identify them from a distance, and send visions to those they believe can help. Because the energies they seek are infernal, they have sometimes missed threats that come from other sources or energies (notably, paradoxical); this is a source of frustration among them and some debate among their communities.

There are 3,333 ilaaliye communities. The paths they follow around the gates and interstitials between the Spirit Realm, Celestial Realms, and the Seams (a realm connecting the realms) forms a matrix of glory and power. The 3,333 communities are made up of 3,333 ilaaliye each. They fly in a formation that mimics the matrix and allows for maximum awareness. They consider themselves the last line of defense against the Eldritch; they watch as much to see if anything is leaving Shem as they do if anything is approaching. They consider this hawsha, or the task.

Their communities are structured with a council of ra'iisulo (sing. ra'iisul), the prime ilaaliye. They are instinctively chosen by the community based on their apparent skill at hawsha. There are 111 ra’iisulo. Below them in rank are the sare. The sare are servants to the ra’iisulo and number 333. Below them in rank are the jaamacadeed. The jaamacadeed are guards and number 999. The rest of the ilaaliye in the community are afar-geesood. The afar-geesood have many roles and number 1,890.

Young ilaaliye are raised by the afar-geesood. They are trained in all the arts and skills needed for hawsha. Those who excel rise in the rank. Those who do not are found other roles needed in the community. The hawsha defines each community, and each community defines the hawsha in their own way. Some hyperfocus on one specific infernal energy; others focus on certain area; others focus on specific Eldritch or demons. They each have a focus.

The ilaaliye believe in Tii Oohinaysa, She Who Cries, a deity who weeps for all their failed attempts to prevent catastrophe on Shem. She weeps for the Fall, for the shattering of time, for the past eschatons. They honor her by being the best they can be at the hawsha.

Nikawiyan

Aliens empowered by their blood ancestry.
  • Lifespan: 300 years
  • Diet: Common mortal fare
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Free on their homeworld, Oppressed on Shem
Nikawiyans appear to be humans with lavender and green skin. Their hair is always coppery.

Nikawiyans have the ability to know the bloodline of anyone they touch for more than a minute. If they are related, they will also know this. If they share blood with someone they are related to, usually from a blood oath, they will amplify each others' power. If they do this with a parent who has done this with a parent (and so on), they have much more power. Every family has their own hereditary power; if there is for some reason a failure to blood bond, the nikawiyan gains a new power when they come of age or when their blood parent dies. If the parent they are blood bonded with harms them, they can reject the bond, taking the power from their parent and using it as their own.

Nikawiyans are from a distant world orbiting a distant star. They live in happy communities where their blood family bonds are almost never disrupted by abuse, violence, or other toxicities. They have a nearly utopian society and a deep culture of love, art, music, and rituals that reaffirm their care for one another. Those few who have come to Shem have found the imperial violence, eugenics, and terror so disturbing they rarely return, though some have been captured and enslaved here.

Rigelian

Four-in-one aliens with one leg.
  • Lifespan: 120 years
  • Diet: Common mortal fare
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Native on their homeworld, Oppressed elsewhere
One-legged aliens who have four souls, rigelians are 7' tall, usually muscular figures with complex voices.

Rigelians have four souls, and each soul is a separate person. Each soul takes turns controlling the body, but they all speak at once when they speak. Their voices fill hearts with mirth, their gaze fills hearts with joy, their smile brings happiness, and their dancing brings contentment. If they achieve a moment of perfect joy with four other people, they will split into four people.

Rigelians live in a world around a four-star system, and they believe the stars are their original homes. Their culture is one of celebration and joy, one of constant seeking of the four people who will let them have their own separate bodies. This has led many of them deep into the cosmos, and thus, to Shem, where they seek their "four".
