Unaligned Terata

"Monstrous" beings based on stories and legends with unaligned powers.

Denalena

Terata who can trade their own features.
  • Lifespan: 200 years
  • Diet: Common mortal fare
  • Habitat: Anywhere
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Denalenas, if unaltered, appear to be 7’ tall figures with broad shoulders, spiky arms and legs, and narrow heads with sharp fins atop them. They have flat faces that seem unexpressive. However, they can magically trade physical features with other beings, and most denalenas have traded for specializations of their bodies.

Denalenas can, via touch, trade an equal physical property for an equal physical property with any other being of similar size and awareness. The other party must consent; if they resist at all, it will fail. Denalenas can trade emotional or mental properties with others via a dance, but this requires agreement beforehand and an unequal exchange - either the denalena must give up more or the other party. They can trade metaphysical properties with a shared gaze that lasts an hour; this requires previous agreement and two:one exchange in either direction.

Trades are permanent, but can be reversed if both parties agree. Equality or lack thereof is determined by the numerical effect on stats, abilities, powers, skills, lores, etc. If there is no numerical value, the numerical value is 0.

Denalenas are a people of trades and exchanges who dwell amongst other peoples. Their original culture is kept amongst their families, but most have assimilated to the places they are at. The old ways that are remembered involve celebrating someone’s first magical exchange, choosing new names as they grow, and learning a craft.

Stats vary.

Meganjang

Majestic reptilian terata.
  • Lifespan: 200 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Near dragons
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Meganjangs are 7’ tall reptilian beings with five long crocodilian tails, blunt-snouted scaly faces, and sharp clawed hands and feet. Each tail is a different color(s) - magenta, black, red, blue-grey, and multicolored. Their body scales are usually one of those five colors or color-sets.

Meganjangs have an aura that makes them impressive to those they are first meeting. They can invoke this up to five times with anyone (counting the automatic first time), even if they have met them before. They bond easily with dragons and can sense when one is nearby. If they bond with a dragon, they take on its color.

Meganjangs are immune to one of five things: heat, cold, poison, control, or disease.

Meganjangs live in communities often near dragons, whom they honor as leaders or figures of worship or both. They have their own lords and leaders, but everything is secondary to the draconic figures they bow to. They love things of beauty - art works, buildings, furniture, anything big and impressive - and they seek ways to fund and construct them in their culture.

Njuse

Large reptilian terata.
  • Lifespan: 200 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Near dragons
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Njuses are 12’ tall beings covered in reptilian scales. They have red skin, five eyes, and sharp fangs and teeth. Their faces have rounded, beaky snouts and their tails end in huge barbs.

Njuses are extremely strong of body and mind. They are immune to fire, electricity, and acid. Some of them can breathe fire. They can bond to dragons easily, and those that do take on the color and breathe weapon of their dragon.

Njuses live near dragons, usually in mountainous areas, and serve them as a warrior caste. Those who are not in service to a dragon have a unique and more peaceful culture of herding and mining; those who work for dragons have a hierarchical, militaristic culture. In both they love contests of strength and athletics, and they invent many sports and games, including ones involving throwing huge boulders or trees, great races down steep slopes, and intricate and boisterous dances.
