Kavouprosop

Half human, half crab, and no sense of personal space.
  • Lifespan: 50-100 years
  • Diet: Fish-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Seashores
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class or Privileged oppressed
Kavouprosopes have the upper body of a human and the lower body of a crab. Their hands are often crab claws, but not always. Sometimes their torso has a chitinous shell.

Kavouposopes can sense other people’s discomfort. They can feed off emotions, but they find discomfort to be especially delicious. They can sense the exact spot near a person that their presence would cause the most discomfort, the place exactly where they are too close. They know when someone else is close to them as well, even if they can’t see, hear, smell, feel, or taste them.

Kavouprosopes live in sprawling communities near the seaside; they dwell in the waters and on the sands, living as great masses. They are fishers, scavengers, and warriors, and they are often recruited for imperial forces. They themselves have a very hierarchical society, ruled by various petty lords.

Liethelaio

Oil and coal beings.
  • Lifespan: 50-100 years
  • Diet: Oil and coal
  • Habitat: Underground
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Liethelaios are 5’ tall figures with bodies of coal and blood of oil. They have sharp fangs and claws, long snouts like an anteater, and even longer, oily tongues. Their eyes are burning flames.

Liethelaios dwell underground and can sense their way through tunnels and caves. They can see in the dark, can smell oil, sense coal, and hear great distances. They can manage the temperature and pressure of oil and coal with their touch.

Imperial cultures recruit liethelaios to work in industries that use oil and coal. They use their powers to create powerful engines, factories, and power plants, or to drill and mine. They leverage this for power and wealth in those societies, becoming powerful figures of industry, enslaving their own kind for more.

Pozhiratel

Canid hominids with extra heads.
  • Lifespan: 50-100 years
  • Diet: Flesh
  • Habitat: Wastelands and deserts
  • Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Pozhirateli are hominid beings with two canine heads. Each head looks like a different canine, usually different large dog breeds, often sleek furred. Some appear to be more like a coyote, jackal, dingo, or dhole, but these are rarer. Their bodies tend to be more slender than one would expect from their frame.

Pozhirateli can eat almost any kind of meat safely. They have sharp senses of smell and hearing, and they know how fresh or rotten any meat is. They need relatively little water, and they gain power from eating the flesh of intelligent mortal beings. This magic varies in how it manifests depending on the species they have eaten, but the general rule of thumb is that supernal and elemental beings give them the most magic, unaligned and fey next, and imperial last.

Some powers they may gain from eating mortals includes the following: superspeed, saltskin, nauseating bark, desiccating tongue, and immunity to heat or cold. Many other powers are possible.

They do not have to eat intelligent mortals to survive; they get by just fine with common animal meat. Pozhirateli live in small bands that roam the wastelands of Shem. They are common in places that were once verdant but are no longer especially. They trade meat and skins with others, but if someone cannot pay, they take payment in mortal flesh. They have a brutal hierarchical society wherein their leaders are petty nomadic kings and a warrior caste controls the culture.

Wirbel

Winged, two-headed, half-aquiline, half-fish people.
  • Lifespan: 60-120 years
  • Diet: Fish-heavy mortal fare
  • Habitat: Skies and seas
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Wirbels have huge feathery wings and two heads, one aquiline, one piscine. Their lower bodies are covered in fish scales, but they have bird talons for feet. Their arms are partly scaled, partly feathered.

Wirbels can fly long distances without rest, but every sixty hours of flight (not counting interruptions) they must roll to see if their luck changes. If they roll certain triples, they spiral downward and a small cyclonic storm forms around them. Their aquiline head has a cry that can call thunder, their piscine head has a gurgle that can call rain. If a wirbel spits on someone, that person risks having bad luck.

Wirbels live in nomadic bands that fly the skies and have nests along sea cliffs. They are ruled by the most powerful among them, called Sturmkoenigen, and worship the storms that wrack their homes as entities of doom and destruction. If one of them enters a spiral and creates a storm, that person is considered sacred and sacrificed to the storm. If they survive this somehow, they are made a Sturmkoenig.

Their culture is very hierarchical and has a powerful ruling warrior caste as well. They are allied with imperial navies and often work targeting supernal or elemental cultures with raids.
