Infernal spirit beings and others based on stories and legends.

Cholopan

Male-assigned fey fueled by masculinity.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Fey fare
  • Habitat: Imperial lands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Cholopans are all assigned male. They have white hair, pointy ears, and yellow eyes. Their skin is grey, and they have a single metallic silver finger on each hand. Culturally, they prefer to wear thick beards.

Cholopans are purveyors of imperial patriarchal values, and the more they live up to patriarchal ideals of masculinity, the more magic they get. If they reject these views of masculinity and define it for themselves, they do not die, but they do not gain access to the six imperial powers others of their kind have (though some have found ways to access other magicks).

The six magicks that cholopans gain as they achieve their patriarchal forms and customs are the power to intimidate smaller people, the power to know who their children are, the power to control those in their family, the power to suppress their own emotions magically, the power to smell when non-men are near, and the power to appear bigger than they are.

Cholopans are fey who are vested in patriarchy. They despise women and non-men, seek to impose rigid gendered hierarchies, and use their magic to create a toxic family structure that they have complete control over. They are a ruling class fey in imperial cultures.

Essequian

Fey of the chains.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Meat-heavy fey fare
  • Habitat: Imperial lands
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Essequians are 7’ tall fey with grey skin, no hair except facial hair, pointy ears, and slate eyes. Their hands are made of slate stone and have white chains dangling from them.

Essequians can extend and withdraw the chains from their wrists, using them to grab and control people. They gain innately know the laws and norms of any class society they are in, and they gain magic if they engage in enforcing them, even if they are not authorized to do so. By enforcing these laws and norms, they steal power from others. The powers they gain depend on whom they are oppressing.

An imperial fey, essequians are a powerful ruling class species who have roles in many empires, especially Urayme, and if they are not part of the most elite, they are often employed as police and guards.

Fair Folk

Gennus

Grellaut

The purgatorial fey.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Common fey fare
  • Habitat: Near volcanoes
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Grellauts are 6’ tall fey with green hair, pointy ears, red skin, and acidic tears. Most of them have a spike growing out of their elbows.

Grellauts live near or in volcanoes. They are immune to heat, acid, and poison. They dwell only in active volcanoes, and they can, collectively, cause them to erupt once per year if at least ten of them work together on it. When they do this, they gain magic for every person who is killed by the eruption.

The magic they gain from these eruptions allows them to stave off calamities for their own communities, steal luck from others, and turn into smoke and ash once per week. They can also speak to stones and earth, which they are not kind to.

They do not need to purge the world, but they gain power if they do.

Grellauts live near or in volcanoes, which they taunt into erupting regularly in order to purge the world of the lesser beings they hate so much, gaining power from it. They are a cruel ruling class species who are dire enemies to the apiperi.

Hada

Tomberoul

Cartwheeling fey.
  • Lifespan: 150 years
  • Diet: Mountain fare
  • Habitat: Mountains
  • Socioeconomic Status: Ruling class
Tomberouls are 6’ tall, stony grey fey with black eyes, brown hair, and green, pointy ears. They have large, flat feet and hands.

Tomberouls live high up in mountains and are able to breathe thin air without problem. They are resistant to the cold. They can sense when avalanches are about to occur, and they all gather right before they do to cartwheel atop them, causing havoc. When they do this, they scatter the stones, snow, mud, or other debris wildly, making it harder to stop or escape. A tomberoul who cartwheels down an avalanche will build up enough magic to return to the top instantly. If they harm people while cartwheeling, they laugh uncontrollably, and their laughter spreads misfortune.

They do not have to do this; they choose to. Those who do not do this gain other magic, but they are usually afflicted with bad luck by other tomberouls who resent this.

Tomberouls live in the mountains. They are chaotic, mischievous fey, but the most powerful among them use their magic and powers to intimidate and control the lands, taking over grazing fields and mines that those they drove away once held. They are a ruling class species who uses their magic for ill.
