Gansmacht
The untamed.
- Lifespan: 60-120 years
- Diet: Meat-heavy fey fare
- Habitat: Forests
- Socioeconomic Status: Privileged oppressed
Gansmachten are green and black, furry beings with small, angled horns, broad heads, and stocky bodies. They stand between 5’ and 6’ tall, and they have buffalo-like features on their heads, but clawed hands and feet. Their heads are disproportionately large for their bodies.
All gansmachten cannot be controlled. They are immune to any kind of control, but they are also on the edge of wildness at all times. If their emotions get heightened and they lose control (any PRS failure), they must roll vs. WIL against a difficulty of 4 for NF, 7 for SF, 10 for EF, and 13 for CF, or they become a wild, flailing, vicious beast for up to 10 minutes.
While in their wild state, they start to fade from the waking realm. If they do not break free before 10 minutes is up, they fall into the Dream Realm and are recruited by the Wild Hunt for seven years.
In their calm or wild state, they can sense wild animals, speak to bovines, and see invisible beings.
Gansmachten live in the forests of Faerie. They have small, nomadic hunting communities that are sometimes directly allied with the Wild Hunt and sometimes not. Those who are not are still shunned by other fey beings. Sometimes they are recruited by imperials.

Leaban
Sleeping giants.
- Lifespan: 1,000 years waking; unknown upper limit for sleeping
- Diet: Vegetarian fey fare
- Habitat: Forests and fields
- Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Leabans are 12’ tall beings covered in purple fur. Some are shaggy, some are short-haired. They have rounded bellies and ears. Because they sleep so deeply and so long, many are covered in moss, lichen, fungi, or grass.
Leabans sleep for years at a time. The longer they sleep, the greater their strength and magic. The shortest rest they take is 12 hours; the average is a year and a day; the longest known sleep for a leaban is 10,000 years. While they sleep, they do not age. If they do not get at least 12 hours of sleep, they suffer exhaustion in the way most other mortals would suffer if they missed a day of sleep.
For every month they sleep, they gain a point of sleep magic. For every 25 points, they gain a point in a basic magical ability. By the time they are 18 years old (not counting the time they sleep), they will have some of the following magicks:
- Snoring charm: they can charm someone such that the target does or does not snore.
- Rumbling slumber: they can make another leaban roll in their sleep and cause a minor shake of the earth.
- Deep sleep charm: if someone sleeps on them, the person gets better rest.
- Violet drool: their drool is a potent sleeping draught.
- Resonant lullabye: they can sing and cure insomnia.
Many other powers develop as they sleep for years and years. Some learn to gain new powers from other forms of rest if they have to, but this is rare and difficult.
Leabans live in large communities in the forests and fields of Faerie. They split their communities between the waking and the sleeping, taking turns. The long-sleepers are gathered together in a central glen, while the short-sleepers (the waking) have big caves and hollowed tree trunks in which they dwell nearby, keeping watch. They honor a deity they call the Visitor, a dream deity, and believe dreams are sacred. They wear little clothing, relying instead on the vegetation and fungi that grows on them for their modesty, and they move slowly and steadily.
Imperials often enslave and exploit them. Those few who leave their communities do so with a specific purpose, often a quest they found in dreams.
