Cirrian

Living cloud beings.
  • Lifespan: 75 years
  • Diet: Water
  • Habitat: The sky
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Cirrians are beings made of cloud. They take on hominid shapes, often towering in height up to 30’, but many shrinking down to human-average sizes. Their size and shape can change often if they absorb enough moisture.

Cirrians are made of and control clouds. They can absorb them and their moisture for sustenance, they can shape them, they can create them from their own bodies, and they can change their composition (within natural range). They can also cause them to precipitate if they are capable of it.

Cirrians live in the clouds in wondrous cities shaped of the same clouds, always changing, always shifting, always forming new marvels. They live communally and protect their clouds from pollution. They distort them so they are resistant to winds, but they do sometimes let the winds take parts of their homes so they can shape their cities into new forms. Cirrian communities are led by elected elders and esotericists.

Ningan

Do you want to build a snow[person]?
  • Lifespan: 40 years
  • Diet: Water
  • Habitat: Anywhere where it snows
  • Socioeconomic Status: Oppressed
Ningans are elemental constructs made of snow. They usually take the form of a stereotypical snow”man”, but with legs. Their size varies, depending on how big their makers crafted them, but most are about 6’ tall. They always have eyes, a nose, and some kind of clothing that are part of their magic.

The snow of a ningan can turn any water that touches it into snow, which is how they gain sustenance. If they “consume” more water than they need, they gain size.

Ningans are animate only if they have a non-snow nose. While a carrot is classic, many are made with more permanent materials like stones. They cannot see without non-snow eyes, and they cannot communicate without them either, even if they have a mouth (either made by carving one into the snow or using some other material to form one). Ningans must have some sort of non-snow clothing as well; their clothing gives them the ability to survive even when it gets too warm. The clothing must be a hat and at least one other piece (scarf, coat, shoes, etc.).

Though their clothing protects them from heat, they still melt a little bit all the time, and thus they need water to survive.

All ningans have the ability to turn into a snow flurry once a day when it is below freezing outside. If it is warmer than that, they have the ability to turn into a puddle of water temporarily once a day. Both of these take a lot out of them.
Other accessories may give them other powers. If they are given stick arms instead of snow arms, the stick arms, for example, will give them the ability to channel freezing energies. If they are given ears made of non-snow materials, the ears can give them the power to float over snowy ground. If they are given earmuffs, the earmuffs protect them from certain magicks. And so on.

Ningans were originally created as protectors for small communities in snowy places using elemental magic. Most still live this way, but some have gained independence and use the same magicks to make their new ningans. They have their own communities where their brief lives are cherished with special ceremonies and rituals throughout the year.

In imperial societies, they are seen as demons and often dismantled out of fear, unless they are shown to belong to an imperial or someone of power enough to protect them.
