Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be huge peridot green-scaled lizards with massive wings and two heads.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Peridot dragons absorb msawhat-corrupted fortune in great quantities. Poioumenon, kor, yahas, shadow, arnum, and infernum are all also common, as is rending and divine energies. Paradox is also often found. Other powers vary, but holy energies are impossible, as is pure fortune.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Spitting venom breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to curses
  • Level 3: Immunity to deception
  • Level 4: Immunity to entropy
  • Level 5: Scale grants bearer bad luck
  • Level 6: Zone of accidents
  • Level 7: Cause disaster, once per year
  • Level 8: Vanish, once a month
  • Level 9: Sense luck
  • Level 10: Imprison
  • Level 11: Summon asps
  • Level 12: Cause eternal bad luck

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include cause major misfortune, cause major accident, luckbreak, mindflaying, and empathy.

Alternate Forms Peridot dragons sometimes take the form of an aspian.
Weaknesses Fortune can harm them.
Subspecies Catastrophic dragons have accumulated more msawhat-corrupted fortune than other peridot dragons and become focal points of catastrophic accidents, constantly surrounded by misfortune and disaster. They appear to be six-headed asps about six-feet long, but with skin made of hard peridot.
Culture Peridot dragons lay their eggs in pits in the deep grasslands, where one in thirteen survive after being abandoned. Those that make it past infancy are sometimes taken in by powerful peridot dragons seeking to use them. Those that survive this process to maturity usually betray their masters, but some leave amicably. Either way, they go on to repeat the process while also building their own gangs of non-draconic beings to serve them. They mate only opportunistically. As they age, they become more and more likely to fall victim again to another peridot dragon, who will use them like they do the young.
