Born in the early decades after Starfall, Osaukhane was one of the early bauxite dwarves dwelling in the deep Grotto Andarakh, a massive city-state built amongst subterranean rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. There, they devised a system of levers, pulleys, waterwheels, and so on to fashion a vast machine for their primary industry, barrel-making.
The story goes that the first bauxite dwarves were coopers from other dwarven races that were especially hard working folk, industrious, and diligent. Their skill and hard work was known and noted throughout the realms of the dwarves, and it brought them fortune, respect, and at times, enemies. Among those enemies were a cruel and cunning set of financiers who found ways to ruin the coopers, destroying their investments, scaring off customers, and eventually making it so they could not pay their debts.
Among these dwarves, one was a religious sort who served the entire Alabaster Pantheon. While his partners were either struggling with the business, staving off debtors' prison, or preparing legal defenses, this dwarf undertook a pilgrimage in their honor (and with their blessing), going to the surface of the world, into the high mountains of the earliest dwarves, and there, he brought ten of his finest works. Each one he left at the old temples of ancient dwarves, until he came to a temple he did not recognize, a new one fashioned by a small crew of dwarves. Here, he found, they worshipped a New God called the Diligent One, or the Father of the Sickle. He was moved and impressed with the work of these dwarves, and he found himself compelled to leave the three remaining works at this temple. He gifted them to the temple, then, at their behest, stayed the night.
That night, he dreamt. In his dream, an old dwarven miner showed him where rich ores of bauxite were to be found near his home. He awoke and left early in the morning, returning home and leading his people into the caves near Andarakh. He lead them deep into the caves, but no ore was found. His companions were kind, but doubtful. So the pilgrim stopped and prayed for a day and a night, and as hope was beginning to fade from the last of his companions, once more he was visited by the vision of the old dwarven miner. The ore was found, and the colony saved, and to honor the visions the pilgrim had had, they held a vast festival of appreciation for this New God, the Diligent One.
At the festival, once more, the old miner appeared, but this time to all dwarves of Andarakh. He then revealed himself to be the Diligent One, and to these dwarves of many races he offered to transform them into his own race, dwarves he would call bauxite dwarves. The pilgrim was the first to volunteer for the transformation, and almost every dwarf of the city followed suit.
Osaukhane is the second daughter of the pilgrim. She was born about a decade after the transformation, and she followed his footsteps as a follower of the Diligent One and as a barrel-maker. She worked hard in the factories and cooperages, and she saw first hand the hard conditions of the workers there. She went to her father and explained that over the decades, his overseers had overlooked the plight of the workers. Seeing this to be true, he sent her on a pilgrimage of her own, to the high temple of the Diligent One, where her goal would be to find teachings to guide them.
At the temple, her mission brought her to the attention of a man named Marcus Debb. Rough-hewn, human, and passionate, he seemed to her to be a normal man, but soon, she learned, he was the Champion of the Diligent God, leader of a group called the Grand Union, a worldwide network of workers' unions. He sent with her back to her homeland with guidance and help, and she revolutionized her homeland into a strongly unionized land, where the workers had power and agency. As reward for this, the Champion made her one of his Servitors (and immortal), and he asked her to join him in working to fight for the workers of the world.
She accepted and began the long, difficult road of being a missionary for the cause of the workers. Over the years, she helped build the Diligent One's faith throughout the world, served as a representative for a dozen different smaller unions, worked side by side with the hardest working industries, and fought agents of criminal empires, followers of the Industrial God (Lord of Filth), and been villainized by corporate interests.
At present, she is in Greater Spicer City, working with a miners' union to get their mine reopened...
