Okimaskew was taken slave as a child and grew up the first few centuries as a slave on Shem. She was on the first ships from Shem to the moons, and she ran away as soon as she could thereafter, using the elemental magic she had learned in secret to do so. She eventually found a safe place among the locals, surviving among them, until Zelentravn became neutral. She took the opportunity to find community there and take up being a brightswicker for the community.
