For Royce?
Fishing pole
(11:27:48 PM) John Von Tree: For Royce, I want to forge a fishing pole or a hook,
(11:28:02 PM) John Von Tree: designed for improvisational combat.
(11:28:08 PM) liamtheruiner: you have to sleep once every ten days.
(11:28:33 PM) John Von Tree: the idea would be a "plot hook"
(11:28:40 PM) liamtheruiner: go on
(11:29:27 PM) John Von Tree: the idea would be that the hook or cast is drawn to the most interesting thing to grab,
(11:29:43 PM) John Von Tree: the thing that, if pulled, with further our story the most.
(11:29:44 PM) liamtheruiner: i foresee a lot of hooks in penis jokes
(11:29:56 PM) liamtheruiner: but that is a pretty good idea
(11:30:07 PM) John Von Tree: I see it as pulling the supporting book that causes a shelf to tumble
(11:30:27 PM) liamtheruiner: nice
(11:30:28 PM) John Von Tree: or the hem that causes someone's scabbard to unravel
(11:31:00 PM) John Von Tree: basically, the more impossible, indirect, and interesting the shot, the easier the chances.
Royce
(03:41:55 PM) ademus05@gmail.com/3690114C: I also want to make armor of Story/Weather that allows the bearer to create thematically appropriate changes to the surrounding weather and environment. Royce would be a good person to give that to.
For Isidore?
(11:34:01 PM) John Von Tree: for isidore, the gun either has to be fate-based or it has to integrate with his time power.
(11:34:13 PM) John Von Tree: I haven't quite figured that one out.
(11:34:22 PM) liamtheruiner: you'd need some ingredients
(11:34:27 PM) liamtheruiner: at the very least
(11:34:29 PM) John Von Tree: yeah, I've no idea what I'd need.
(11:34:47 PM) liamtheruiner: living saturnium would be good for time-based powers. it's also good for machines.
(11:34:50 PM) liamtheruiner: guns count as machines
(11:35:19 PM) liamtheruiner: normal saturnium would be good, too, but living would be better
(11:35:32 PM) John Von Tree: a fate based gun would be interesting, i.e. bullet with your name on it.
(11:35:38 PM) liamtheruiner: yeah
(11:35:52 PM) John Von Tree: but I'm still working out what it would be like in my head.
(11:35:58 PM) liamtheruiner: and whose name
(11:36:25 PM) liamtheruiner: here's an idea: make it such that the bullet is not just fated, but an inescapable fate.
(11:36:32 PM) John Von Tree: a gun that integrates with his power could also be handy, but I've no idea how it'd work differently than the combat mechanic.
(11:36:34 PM) John Von Tree: ooh, neat.
(11:36:55 PM) liamtheruiner: so the powers that make fate escapable are story, luck, and hope. all three of those are weak to despair.
(11:37:13 PM) liamtheruiner: so binding fate with despair with the idea to make it inescapable would work. if you do it right.
(11:37:40 PM) John Von Tree: interesting
(11:38:21 PM) John Von Tree: for a time-power based gun, make it so it shoots and possibly undoes someone's action that round?
(11:38:32 PM) liamtheruiner: that's a possible power
(11:38:33 PM) John Von Tree: Watchers would love that.
(11:38:46 PM) John Von Tree: a hand retcannon.
(11:38:53 PM) liamtheruiner: yeah, they'd hate you.
(11:39:07 PM) liamtheruiner: but if you forged the littany objects, they hate you already anyway
(11:40:10 PM) John Von Tree: if I did
(11:40:10 PM) liamtheruiner: i refuse to acknowledge your pun.
(11:40:14 PM) John Von Tree: haha
(11:40:21 PM) liamtheruiner: (i just acknolwedged your pun)
(11:41:02 PM) John Von Tree: really, Obie'd go bigger. He'd make a gun for use with mutants, to take self-directed powers and push them out to others as a weapon.
(11:41:16 PM) liamtheruiner: interesting
(11:41:28 PM) John Von Tree: For isidore, this would manifest as above.
(11:41:33 PM) liamtheruiner: yeah
(11:41:55 PM) John Von Tree: I'm trying to think of stuff in line with the objects we've already seen him forge.
(11:42:07 PM) John Von Tree: potentially, in the future.
(11:42:11 PM) liamtheruiner: right
(11:42:29 PM) John Von Tree: A gun to use latent mortal powers would be interesting as a study in bringing out the strength in mortality.
(11:42:37 PM) liamtheruiner: very
(11:42:47 PM) liamtheruiner: that's a pretty bad ass idea
(11:43:01 PM) liamtheruiner: it'd ironically probably need the powers of balance to work
Armor:
(05:00:57 PM) ademus05@gmail.com/3690114C: for isidore: Strong armor with fate, hope, and time, designed to let him survive 3 seconds no matter what the blow.
(05:05:37 PM) Billy Ray: interesting. but i hope it provides more defense than JUST that
(05:06:07 PM) ademus05@gmail.com/3690114C: good armor, and an extra punch to let him survive long enough to rewind.
Davan
Armor: something to let him use facets of different faces, connected to the cross.
Gerrick
Armor: Something that bears his crest-- something that makes his body his home and therefore involable.
Ateg
Weapon: spear?
Armor: something to transform inner strength into outer strength
Ideas in development.
Mask of Ancestors
Requirements: Vysolite, wood, copper, leather, iron, bones.
Assembly instructions: Cut the wood, copper, leather, iron, and bones into fragments that can be used to decorate a mask in different orientations and add structure. Meditate while forging the Vysolite around the Egg as a base in both the Real World and in the Collective unconscious, trying to open a door between the collective unconscious and the real world via the mask. Attach the other fastenings in face shapes to make it easier for the Vysolite to change the mask according to the memories invoked.
Idea OOC: I'd like to do more with Obie's ancestoral memory, and I'd like a chance to play different attitudes on Obie. I think a mask that allows obie to become his ancestor might make for interesting roleplay and might bring some memory insights and bonuses to the game.
Idea IC: Obie needs to get in touch with his ancestors. I did research on how he'd conceptualize the problem, and I think he'd approach it as "ancestor worship". In the congo, there are ritual dances that honor nature spirits and one's ancestors. Dancers wear masks depicting one's ancestor, and during the dance they "become" that spirit or ancestor. The main problem is that if Obie were to take this approach to invoke his ancestors, he'd need 49 masks. He needs a mask that can change itself based on his meditations. Making the mask around a connection to the collective unconscious also allows Obie to study and learn what in mortality allows the creation of a whole new plane of their memories and imagination. He thinks this could be a clue to the secret behind the Greatest Sword.
(11:47:42 PM) John Von Tree: the Mask of Ancestors.
(11:48:07 PM) liamtheruiner: interesting. go on
(11:48:19 PM) John Von Tree: I want/need a chance for Obie's memories to come out, but going through all those memories would really slow down the game for everyone else.
(11:48:57 PM) John Von Tree: so I did a lot of reading on ancestor worship to try and understand how Obie would try to self-actualize with all the memories he's got now.
(11:48:58 PM) liamtheruiner: we could work out ways. but do go on
(11:49:04 PM) John Von Tree: in the Congo
(11:49:55 PM) John Von Tree: so in ritual dances, people wear ritual masks meant to symbolize specific ancestor spirits or classes of ancestor spirits
(11:50:05 PM) liamtheruiner: okay
(11:50:23 PM) John Von Tree: in these rituals, people go into trance, then put on the mask and "become" that ancestor,
(11:50:55 PM) John Von Tree: it's kind of half way between role-playing and possession from what I can understand.
(11:51:31 PM) John Von Tree: or the role-play invites suggestions and possession from that ancestor, etc.
(11:51:50 PM) liamtheruiner: right
(11:52:36 PM) John Von Tree: so I think Obie's going to try and make a mask to "become" a given ancestor
(11:53:04 PM) liamtheruiner: that could very well work
(11:53:15 PM) John Von Tree: the problem is that he'd need 49 masks, and that's not practical to carry around,
(11:54:09 PM) John Von Tree: so he'd need one whose features can change depending on who he's remembering-- apparently in this belief system the mask is very specific to the spirit
(11:54:54 PM) liamtheruiner: nice
(11:55:33 PM) John Von Tree: my idea so far is to use a combination of Vysolite (change metal) and Kentosane's Egg to help make the mask change based on the memories he's bringing to the surface.
(01:01:16 AM) John Von Tree: oh! I just remembered an option for the mask of ancestors.
(01:01:22 AM) liamtheruiner: yes/?
(01:02:36 AM) John Von Tree: Obie could do it while meditating and try to forge it both in the real world and in the collective unconscious at the same time, forging a connection between the two.
(01:03:10 AM) liamtheruiner: if he uses the egg on it, that's a real possibility
(01:03:32 AM) John Von Tree: I had originally thought that the mask would basically just manifest memories for shamans, but Obie has a better shot at reaching the collective unconscious since he IS a collective unconscious now.
Dragonslayer
Requirements: (Living?) Ravensteel, dragonsteel
Idea: I want to make the "All Cleaver" of dragons. A sword that essentially turns dragons into squishy mortals, negates breath weapons, and negates dragon strength would be fucking awesome. It would also be a new and interesting use of void. It would fit Obie's motif of returning power to the weaker, mortal races.
Requirements: Bigger Smaller mushrooms, ?? activating ingredient??, iron ore, basic forging tools
Assembly instructions: powder the bigger/smaller mushrooms. Smelt out the iron ore with liquid-powder mixture, one half bigger, the other half smaller.
"I am a blacksmith by trade, and during this last month I have felt a burning need to practice my craft. Our adventures and schedule do not often accommodate this need."
"To help remedy the situation, I have fashioned some rudimentary tools to form a portable forge."
"Since we recovered the Boots, I have discovered that I can forgo sleep for some time if I so choose."
"While the rest of you sleep and engrave what you have learned into your dreams, I will engrave what I have learned into metalwork."
"I have fashioned a simple furnace, an anvil, a couple of hammers, an adjustable punch, a chisel, and a pair of tongs."
"All these tools have been smelted in liquid essence from bigger-smaller mushrooms, imbuing the iron with some of their properties."
--REPLACE--
"When I rub the I left the end-caps here, so that I may moisten the mushrooms to increase the size of the tool."
"Alternatively, I can bring heat close and dehydrate the mushroom component to shrink the tool to a more managable size."
"I will cover the ends with wax to prevent accidental increases in size."
--REPLACE--
"The tools I have fashioned are most basic, but they should provide me an interesting challenge. If I can forge with just these tools, I can forge with anything."
REPLACE ---
"Finally, I have fashioned a spear for myself. The head has been serrated so that it might double as a shovel for my forge if increased in size."
/me hold out a miniature spear about twice the size of a spoon.
"Like my tools, this spear can be shrunk, and I have fashioned a water tight enclosure and plunger."
"When the spear end is struck, water should be infused into the spear, quickly increasing it to a size appropriate for combat."
/me pushes the end of the miniature spear and it quickly stretches to match his height.
"When danger has subsided, I can shrink the spear again with heat and reset the mechanism."
REPLACE ---
Proposed, awaiting approval.
Awaiting screen time.
Nahuel's spear.
Requirements: iron ore, aluminum or light metal for the shaft, forging tools, *basic* knowledge of enchantment
"I have been thinking of what you have said Nahuel, about hope and despair when we were discussing the Long Path. You said that you did not understand hope, and after joining your company, I am not sure I understand despair. I have made you this spear, so that we might come to an understanding."
/me picks up the spear and pushes it to hold the tip. The blade is shaped like a tear, with a ragged non-regular edge and riddled with scars up and down the blade. "This end is how I view despair. I have based it upon the designs I saw while traveling amongst the interior of the Ring."
"I have crafted it so that upon piercing flesh, it cannot leave a clear cut. It will always leave a scar, a reminder of the wound."
/me runs his finger down a scar in the blade. "These channels will collect a drop of blood from those you strike, marking and staining the blade permanently with every use."
"I have made the very edge of the blade brittle, firstly to give it strength, but also so that any nick will leave a sharp edge, leaving the blade just as ragged and sharp."
"This is a blade that will scar with you, and will tell the story of every target it strikes. "
/me turns the spear around. "This end of the spear is hope. I have weighted the spear to the best of my ability, so that it will feel balanced and sure in your hands. After consulting my ancestor, I have also tried to weave some enchantment into the end. It possesses a cantrip to help clear your mind after grasping the end, so that you might see what has to be done."
"I have constructed this weapon to collect my own thoughts, and to help you understand hope and despair as I do."
"There is strength in despair, and there is strength in hope. You can hold on to hope while using the strength in despair. And when you hold this end, you can be sure of your strike."
"This is no spear made of behemoth ivory. When you understand it's message, I expect you to cast it away so another so another can learn."
/me hands Nahuel the spear, butt first.
Finished.
Bathsheva, amulet of oaths
"We are all bound by our commitment to repair Time and set right the world. Through the Cross, we seven have been able to turn that committment into something more permenent and valuable. Already, our ability to find, communicate, and coordinate with each other has proven absolutely invaluable."
"I wanted to offer a chance for you all to connect as we have on our journeys. Early on in the Age of Wind, we acquired a piece of Living Tin, an immortal of the God of Wealth. With the metal's blessing, I have forged this for all of you."
/me holds up an ornate shining design of what looks like six stylized oysters, all open and interlocking in their base. Small chains dangle from each.
"I have rechristened the Tin Bathsheva, keeper of the oaths. The amulet is made of six lockets, and the lockets can only be opened when all of them interlock just so."
"If you six swear an oath, a commitment to each other, and place an object of great personal value in the center of each locket, the lockets will close and separate."
"Bathsheva will then be keyed to each of you, and will provide you the coordination, communication, and advice. While you wear your locket, you will always be able to act as one."
"Be forewarned though, should one of you turn against your oath, the amulet will absorb what it contains and take it for it's own."
"The items of value can be returned by rejoining all the amulets together and releasing the bond."
Obiefune creations in the original timeline:
- Dragonslayer - an alloy of dragonsteel and ravensteel, endowed with the ability to negate the powers/strengths of dragons and to poison them. The sword was an equalizer for mortality. It was also an exploration of dragon magic and a subversion of void.
- A derringer of insight - crafted in homage to the greatest gunsmith, made for a sphere revealed after his time. The gun was crafted to shoot as true as the wielder knew themselves, and to strike with a force of their conviction in that knowledge.
- A blade that could cut time - This was likely a study on time and metaphysical cutting. Time is one of the yokes used to limit mortals. Obiefune needed to understand how a mortal's power changed if that pressure were relieved or changed.
- a sword that burned with the emotions of its wielder - This sword was likely a straightforward study in taking the emotional force of a mortal and turning it into an external force to be wielded. It was also a study on empathy and pathic races.
- a sword that alloyed two living metals - Was an attempt to see if living metal could seal itself, and thus draw on greater power? Perhaps this was an attempt to make a living sword with no name-- a sword who's very existence was a denial of the sword's heritage.
- a blade of diamond-infused steel - Likely a study on the limits of material strength. As such, this sword would have been designed to be both durable and hard.
- a fencing foil that would temper itself - This was likely a study on creating a sword that the ages would shape. If there is one constant with mortality, it is that is is always changing. The gods stay static in comparison.
- a sword that severed metaphysical connections - This sword would have been towards the end of his life, when he started to branch out into the more obscure versions of what the Greatest Sword could mean. This was a study on how things were connected, and how one might separate the ties that bind us from those that support us up.
- a sword so dark and foul he never told anyone about it--he kept it secret even from me, O, Prophet and God.
- a sword whose blade was a name - This would also have been towards the end of his career. I imagine it as just a hilt, but whoever held the hilt could wield the name like a weapon. This blade would have been a study on the power of Names. This also would have been a study on how to make a name. The name he would have crafted would have been "defiant" and "undeniable."
- A mundane blade, made as perfectly and beautifully as Obie could manage.
- A sacrificial blade that would release a magical spell of your choosing if plunged into your own heart. This was a study on body magic and sacrifice.
- a sword to sever the threads of fate
- Hindsight- a sword empowered by the wielder's death so that future wielders are protected against the same fate.
- a sword that burned with the conviction of one's faith
- a sword that made you a Peace untouchable, a marriage of war and peace.
- a sword empowered by curses -- this also would have been towards the end of his career. I'd also like if it had a side effect of collecting curses.
- a collection of swords with as little balance, yet still functional, as he could manage. -- also towards the end of his career.
- a sword of story that was a key to that which blocks the end of your quest.
- a sword and shield empowered by love-- the shield is empowered by the love of the gifter for the wielder, while the sword is empowered by the love of the wielder for the gifter.
- a sword that filled those who saw it with the hope of it's wielder.
- a blade that inflicted mortality upon immortals.
- Nature's defense-- a wooden sword that phased through anything inorganic.
