A band of marooned men turned into a small fleet of marooned people, all of whom were outcast to the most dangerous place on Shem. The outskirts of Abaddon, where the living rain forests of the Island Bridge meet the barren wastes of lava and morag acid, known as the Turnaway Islands, are their home. Their leader is a broken, angry shemir named Gaindauh who saw all twelve of his original companions die over the last few Ages. The Marooned Fleet raids any ship that dares come near.

The crews of the Marooned Fleet are a motley of beings from all around the world, but most of the crews are relatively local: awuwongs, atolhus, fringaels, lucayans, macaws, roachmen, ammun-huuls, crocans, jatojitelfis, kasuhis, khepris, khnums, nileans, mummies, rota-tythes, duppies, hupias, werehyenas, hadafirans, obambos, and rovers. They are all hardened, dangerous folk, with +3 PRO and +3 STR over standard for crews. One member of each crew has aedificarian skills.

The Turnaway Islands are treacherous and unstable, worse than the rest of the Island Bridge. There are no permanent structures there, so the crews of the Marooned Fleet rest in temporary structures, tent cities and small huts, when they leave their ships. They set up alarms against morag attacks, but there's little they can do to protect themselves from them save flee. Their ships are designed without anchors, just lines to secure.
