Description Kitzena are female-assigned human-like beings with three eyes, skin that is silvery and reflective, and hair like fine metal fibers.
Procreation Like all mesecina, kitzena are able to bear children but must be inseminated by beings from other species. They always produce other kitzena.
Esoterica Kitzena are beings of ancestral memory and lunar aether. They are adept users of those energies, and many of them learn other estoeric arts, including those of viridian aether, mystery, poioumenon, complexity, astral aether, the gates, psionic energy, euskepsia, brumal aether, radiance, shadow, mana, Damaskian powers, Long Path, temporal aether, white tiger aether, dumaqu, sin, possibility, lhair, currents aether, entropy, banaru, flux, dream energy, yahas, fundamental aether, heavenly light, kor, and spirits.
Special Powers Kitzena have skin that reflects low-level estoeric energies. If their voices echo, the echoes can say completely different things from what they originally said. They have the ability to control liquids (outside of biological bodies) with a gesture, shfiting them in a similar fashion as tidal motion.
Eye Powers Kitzena eyes are empowered by the phases of the three moons. Each eye is a different color (grey, white, green) to correspond with the moons, and these eyes wane and wax with them. The grey eye can see even in the faintest light. The white eye can seen esoteric energies. The green eye can see vast distances through the cosmos (but not through atmosphere).
Weaknesses Brown aether will harm them. Solar aether can overwhelm them. Heavier atmospheres than they are used to can make them sick or cause other physical damage.
Sisterhood Three or more kitzena together can form a bond with one another that allows them to combine their visual powers, allowing them to amplify their range of sight for any eye. If they are with three or more mesecina of other nations, they can create the same bond, but their visual powers are exchangeable, not amplified. If they are with three or more adelfoi of other nations, they can bond to share other powers.
National Culture

Kitzena live in small village communities on the lunar plains. Each village is led by a council of elders called a staresina. The staresini gather with other staresini every three years to share information and resources, create communal bonds, vision-quest through the cosmos, and discuss national policies. From this gathering, one staresina is elected to be the national staresina for the next three years to decide inter-village conflicts.

Kitzena children are raised only by their birthing parent and their siblings. Every three years, children are brought to remote places on the plains to go on a vision-quest into the cosmos with their family. On their third quest, the content of their quest determines their names. On the fifth quest, they must stay out for three nights and seek a moon of a very distant planet to view. This moon becomes their second name. On their eighth quest, they find a third name within the solar system, usually a planet, other moon, or asteroid. This marks their ascent into adulthood.

Children learn from their families or from the local temple (or both). Each village has its own set of traditional games, festivals, and rituals. Children grow up generally carefree until after their fifth vision-quest.

As adults, they must take up a craft within the village, usually based on what their parent does, but not always. The most common occupations are weaver, priestess, gatherer, mason, metallurgist, cycle-witch, healer, moondancer, huntress, and farseer. Traditionally, weavers, masons, and metallurgists are crafts for the momceinja (sing. momce), or kitzena who do not identify as women. Cycle-witches, moondancers, and farseers are traditionally any gender. Huntresses are mostly women, and gatherers are mostly young adults of any gender.

Kitzena who leave their home villages for non-kitzena society usually become mystics in other societies for their visual powers.

Religion

Religion is a part of every day life for kitzena. Every village has a temple that is an open amphitheatre. The priestesses come there every three days to sing through the night. On these nights, spirits and other powers flow through the village. Young kitzena are sometimes called to these performances, and when this happens, they are taken in by the priestesses to be trained as new priestesses.

The priestesses worship the Three Sisters, the triple-goddess of the three moons. They believe that the three sisters are a three-in-one Divine who has three faces, but is also three goddesses. In her primary form, she is the Grey Watcher, the Woman of the Grey Moon, or the Protectress. Her secondary form is the Green Watcher, the Woman of the Green Moon, or the Huntress. Her third form is the White Crone, the Woman of the White Moon, or the Weeper. As the Protectress, she provides for them, protects them, and embodies the moon they live on. As the Huntress, she protects them from afar, hunting the dangers of space, keeping them away from the Grey Moon. And as the Weeper, she is forlorn, lost, hurt, aging, weeping for what she has lost.

Priestesses work in threes, each one wearing one of the lunar colors. They perform songs and dances to commune with spirits and the moons themselves. Common worshipers join them and enjoy the performances, bring questions for the Sisters, bring their problems to share, and bring offerings.

Priestesses also handle guiding children on vision quests if their parents are dead, keep the communities clean, and bless common places to protect them.

Outside View Most Shem-bound mortals do not know of the kitzena specifically, but do know the moons are inhabited. Non-kitzena on the moons know them as distant, aloof villages who do not interact much with outsiders, but are not hostile.
