The Champion of Music has fought more wars than she can remember. She was the first of the Runners. She killed the Champion of Treason and helped slay the Champion of Despair. She forged five magical swords of incredible power, crafted songs so stunning that they brought gods to their knees, and helped the Bronccour defeat the forces of Terror at the end of First Shem. She married the Champion of Dreams after he entered the Dreaming God's Dreams to alter the nature of faeries. She made war with the King of Thorns for Ages, and finally, through mortal agents, she destroyed him. Her cunning saw the defeat of the Usurpers and the end of the Manifestation Wars.

Of all the faeries on Shem, she is one of three that the Faerie Queen respects as an equal, alongside the Puck and the Unicorn.

In the wake of Starfall, Jumana and her husband have been listening to the prophecies and the rumors, and they have come to an agreement with the Faerie Queen: dark times are coming, and they must do what they can to prevent them or survive them. Marshalling her agents, Jumana has begun to seek answers to the slow-coming extinction of the elves on behalf of the Faerie Queen.
