Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be shimmering, rainbow-hued reptilian creatures with sleek, beautiful bodies and glowing, butterfly-like wings. Their scales are constantly shifting prismatic fragments.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Iridal dragons have accumulated Elysian energy and radiance. They also have dumaqu, heavenly light, Foundation, and hegnh. Divine energies are common. Nommic energies and qi are common. Currents and winds aether are not unheard of. Flux, possibility, ethereal energy, and complexity are well known, as is mana. Other energies vary, but evil energies are impossible.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Radiant prismatic blast breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to corruption
  • Level 3: Immunity to poisons
  • Level 4: Immunity to shadow energy
  • Level 5: Scales grant bearer perfect protection
  • Level 6: Radiant barrier
  • Level 7: Instill grace, once per year
  • Level 8: Instill bravery
  • Level 9: Sense evil
  • Level 10: Empowering gaze
  • Level 11: Summon wardens of heaven
  • Level 12: Redeeming light

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects.

Other common powers include impervious barrier, grant wish, communal connection, and healing.

Alternate Forms Iridal dragons take the form of a kitezhi if they must, or that of a rainbow.
Weaknesses Infernum and msawhat affect them greatly.
Subspecies Twin dragons are iridal or scarlet dragons who have accumulated enough of both bravery resonance and Elysian energy to combine the two forms. These vary, but always feature characteristics of both kinds of dragons. They always have impossible bravery and the ability to grant wishes.
Culture Iridal dragons dwell in beautiful communes surrounding highland springs. They lay their eggs in the waters and protect the young communally. Every iridal dragon does everything in the commune that they are able, and they are cared for based on their needs. No one is a leader and no one is a follower. Non-draconic people sometimes join these communes and are welcome as long as they contribute and/or as long as they need. Those who violate the rules or cause harm to the commune are exiled if the crime is grievous enough. When iridal dragons grow old, they fade into Elysian light and grant a wish to the entire community.
