The son of the Jester Divine and... someone, the Jester can't quite remember. He was drunk when she dropped the child off at his Palace. Boy, she was upset about that, wasn't she? Did he ever find out if the kid was His?

Anyway.

Gota proved immediately to be perhaps the dumbest child the Jester ever begat. He was dubbed the Dunce as a child, and he embodied that good-naturedly. One year, a group of revels came to the Jester and asked him for a king to lead them in feast, song, and drink, and the Jester saw the opportunity to foist an embarrassing child off on someone else. The revels loved Gota. Gota was too much a fool to take any joke on him as anything but funny, and this made him likable. He had no malice in him, and though he was an idiot, he knew he was an idiot.

So he ruled as a king for an Age, then was retired to the Aeonian realms for a while. In the Epochs of the Indigo and Violet Mantles, though, he came back to Shem to rule a small kingdom, and there he found the world much different. People were more demanding. They tried to use him, but he prevented that by being useless. He became very, very good at being useless, and very, very good at being underestimated.

As such, his sister found him oddly useful, and she began wielding her influence to make use of his uselessness. At the moment, she has tasked him with protecting a small child that she claims is very important, and he can't quite tell it's only a dummy.
