Several important moments in the history of Shem(s) involve the harming of Mother Shem. The first, called the Wounding or Starfall, was a sundering of Her True Name that was restored by legendary heroes and massive armies in a struggle with the now-dead Arbiter and the Champion of the Mother of Bones. The second happened sometime in an unknown period wherein the matriarchy was destroyed and the ancestral ties all beings have to their original ancestor was severed. This is known simply as the Fall. These two moments have now been tied together in fragments:

1. Lilith in The Pit: the mother Lilith is bound in The Pit and twisted into a monster.
2. Harkan the Patriarch: the King Harkan the Black rides with an army against matriarchal tribes.

These two moments are twisted within one another and must be corrected. History as it is recorded is very unclear on the details of the Fall, but much more clear about the Wounding. The watchers believe that getting the Wounding right will by default make the Fall right.
