Written of as more of a metaphor than a person, she simply represents the deterioration of the body as it ages. She is a fundamental spirit of aging. Once you find her true story, you find that she is a pleureuse (all-female-assigned species of beings whose tears are magical) who feared growing old, so she drained youth from others until she became inmortal, but she must keep doing this to maintain her life.
