The most famous of all knights in the world, legendary for their quests and heroics. Much of it is mythological, but there is some truth. Knights in
Dhun are a critical part of the nobility, and even higher ranking nobles have training as knights, including the king. Their reputation for holiness is absolutely overblown, however; they are more interested in conquest than prayer, save for a rare few.
Unlike other knights, Dhunnic knights add a quest to their rituals. After one receives
accolades, one must complete a quest for their lord in order to be a true knight. In times of war, this is usually to lead forces into combat. In times of trade, it is usually to act as an envoy. In times of peace, it is to go afar and find some relic or symbol. In times of corruption, it is often an act of assassination. It varies by lord. Furthermore, if a lord's daughter has eyes for a knight, she may give him a quest instead. This is usually arranged beforehand, against the spirit of the exception, but sometimes it is a true act of love. In the latter case, a favor from the lady will grant the knight actual bonuses. In the former case, it will simply be a token of affection or political alliance.
As
Graysonite knights, they honor both
the Shepherdess and
the Swan Mother. However, they do not answer to or get annointed by the
Church of Sacra Vitta. Instead, after a schism in the church, the
Church of Dhun was formed, which has a much closer relationship with the
King of Dhun. In spite of this obvious conflict of interest, there are sincere faithful among the Church of Dhun.
Dhunnic knights often answer the call to the
Crusades, but they usually have ulterior motives, bringing back stolen treasures and more.
Dhunnic knights always own land, and they often have higher rank then "knight." They retain multiple ranks, usually.
