Description At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, bright dragons grow to be long, thin beasts with short, stubby legs & no wings, though they can still fly. Their scales are shimmering gold and white. Some bright dragons appear to be brighter than others, and some are made entirely of bright light.
Procreation Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching.
Esoterica Bright dragons have accumulated massive amounts of heavenly energy and hegnh along with the base energy of draconic power. It is not uncommon for them to have quantities of Foundation, Elysian essence, dumaqu, or radiance. Many have divine energies as well. Magic is not unheard of. Other neutral powers are possible, but no infernal energies are ever found in a bright dragon.
Special Powers

Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:

  • Level 1: Holy flame breath weapon
  • Level 2: Immunity to evil temptation
  • Level 3: Immunity to curses
  • Level 4: Immunity to poisons
  • Level 5: Scales allow bearer to sense evil
  • Level 6: Wall of light (no impure or evil being may cross its threshhold)
  • Level 7: Soulcleanse, once per year
  • Level 8: Impose truespeech
  • Level 9: Soulsight
  • Level 10: Halo (protects from demons and abominations)
  • Level 11: Summon angels
  • Level 12: Bond of Service (allows them to bond themselves in service to another)

All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. As they gain more power, it becomes harder to absorb more energies. This usually caps with a twelfth power. Some few move beyond that.

Other common powers include healing touch, immunity to terror, instill nutrition, and grace.

Alternate Forms Bright dragons tend to only take alternate forms if they become a kren-aial. The form depends on where they intend to quest, but the most common are human, tamarinian, shepherd of kindness, and anjana.
Weaknesses Shadow and infernum or their approximates are especially damaging to a bright dragon.
Subspecies Heavenly dragons are bright dragons with a higher percentage of heavenly light than most. They are made entirely of bright holy light and are notably more powerful than their corporeal brethren. They have all the powers of a bright dragon but add four more, usually holy nova (self-sacrificing area blast of holyflame), lightspeed travel, incandescent speech (speech burns evil), and invisibility (at will).
Culture

Bright dragons live in mountainous isles that have been blessed by ancient holy faithful. They protect these holy places with a passionate reverence, working together in small groups to protect each island individually, and banding together to protect the islands when threatened by a greater danger.

Bright dragons hatch their eggs in creches surrounded by holy energies. The whole community raises the young and contributes to feeding them, teaching them, and caring for them. Once a bright dragon reaches maturity, they are provided with the tools they need to become a guardian of their own domain on the island, or to move to a different island.

Thrice a year, on holy days, bright dragons gather on the main isle, Bright Isle, for a festival where they share in worship. They bring together all that they have created, earned, or acquired over the last four months and trade, share, or gift objects they think others will like. They also at these times trade with outsiders, thus creating their humble hoards. At these times, they also court each other. Bright dragons have no strict rules about courting, save that the young should be supervised carefully to avoid any power disparities in relationships. Monogamous and polygamous relationships are equally common. If a bright dragon falls in love with a dragon from another island, they come to an agreement on which island they will live on for mating.

Bright dragons first duty is protection of the meek. On their islands, they protect mortal beings of many races who have come for shelter, solace, or healing. Special dragons called kren-aial are often sent to find and help those in need.

Once a bright dragon reaches old age and nears their end, younger bright dragons begin to tend for them. Upon their death, the whole island gathers to absorb the energies of the dragon as it fades into bright holy light.
