The art of bloodsharing is ancient. Using one's own blood to affect another has existed since the dawn of Shem, but since Starfall, it has become more complicated. What happens when one shares blood is a complex circumstance. What is in one's blood, what is in the blood of your target, and how you share it all matter.
Blood content: All blood has energy, but some blood has different energies than others. The inherent "blood energy" is usually
qi. Qi is a vibrant, healing energy. One's race determines what other energies will be present, as well as environmental factors. Becaue it is part of the body, part of the physical aspect, all blood is
nommic. Nommos is a reflection of what a person is, however, and thus, if a person is evil, their blood is evil; if they are good, their blood is good. If they are, like most people, a bit of both, so is their blood. The nommic energy in blood is not considered in bloodsharing; or rather, it does not change the effects of bloodsharing. It is used up in the act of bloodsharing. it is what allows bloodsharing to be possible. In short, it is the giving up of part of oneself to another that empowers bloodsharing.
Target blood: If the target is of the same race as the giver of blood, then, all other things being equal, bloodsharing will result in healing, empowering, or enslavement, depending solely on the giver's intent (and the receiver's resistance). However, if there are notable differences in race or circumstance--in other words, if there are foreign energies in the blood given--different effects may occur. The most obvious is that if the target is of opposite aspect from the giver, it can cause harm (angelblood will harm demons; athak blood will hurt thaumar, red dragon blood will hurt hoary dragons, and so on). For more information, consult the chart below.
Sharing Method: The tools used to share blood can alter the effects of bloodsharing. Using materials made from objects containing the energies you want shared to share blood, or neutral energies.
Filters: If one's blood has energies one does not wish to share, one may use special filters to lessen or remove the energies. While it is potent to use the opposite energy to filter unwanted energies, this can be dangerous--it can contaminate the blood with the energies used to filter, or it can damage the blood further. The best methods for filtering are using weaker substances--copper is resistant to magic, for instance, and can filter mana. Velvet filters void, etc.
