Description

Yankiirs appear to be anthropomorphic falcons, with thin, tapered wings. There are six breeds: red, grey, black, gry-, saker, and peregrine. Reds are medium-sized (5'8") with long wings and bright red necks and feet, with gret wings and red underfeathers. Greys are just generally plain grey with a little extra coloration, usually white or brown. Blacks are medium-large (6') with dark black feathers that fade to brown as they age. They weigh less than the peregrines. Gyrkiirs are the largest (6'3") with all white to dark brown feathers, and pointed, long broad wings. Peregrines are blue-grey on the back and banded white underneath. Their heads are black. Sakers are very large (6') and grey with broad wings and brown bellies.

Procreation

Follows the mother.

Magic

One in five million have heart or soul magic. Mind and body magic are possible. Void is possible. Faith is not uncommon.

Special Powers

Yankiirs are known for their speed and their mastery of flight. They can change direction rapidly while flying. They have excellent eyesight and are quite intelligent. All have third eyelids for flight and nostril protecting bones for high speeds.

Greys are known for their secret keeping abilities and their better than average hunting skills. Gyrkiirs are known for their intimidating circling when they find prey and their commanding presences. Peregrines are incredibly fast, diving at 200 miles per hour. They are also known for their skilled hunting skills. Sakers are known for their connection to the Wind God. They serve as his messengers and are allowed to perch in the World Tree. They can see the future in wind currents and can will their talons to flame.

All yankiirs also are known for their control of wind currents and their connection to the element of air. One in a thousand can turn into a whirlwind once a year.

Weaknesses

Earth magic or faith can harm them. Gyrkiirs are known to be susceptible especially to certain diseases.

Culture

Yankiirs live in cliffside nests, often ones they reuse from olden times.

Reds are known to be migratory, using greater crow nests in some of their alternative homes. They are colonial in nature, having huge spring festivals of communal reproduction.

Greys are known for their stick nests and their small family-oriented natures. They tend to have clutches of 2-3 eggs at any given time.

Blacks are known for sticking to grasslands or woodland, and for their willingness to eat carrion.

Gyrkiirs are known to live in Altic climes. They don't usually build nests, but will use one if one is available. They hate golden eagles and kill them as pests.

Peregrines are powerful, fast, and dangerous. They make scrapes for nests (that is, shallow depressions in cliff sides), and they hunt twice a day. They are migratory, and they are known for eating common birds. They have complex courtship rituals involving aerobatics, spiraling, diving, and sharing meals.

Sakers are known for their myriad rituals. They are migratory, and each of their home locations is devoted to something: mating (which is very private), faith, meditation, and law.
