-
A detailed description of Nathan's nose.
- Inexperienced NPC team on the battlefield (recurring)
- Lightning storms
- Illusionary enemy forces
- The last gift of Father Crane, long after his death
- Arrival of a flight of Brownstone Dragons
- Roving packs of wild fuligin predators
- a zone where our Gifts don't work
Phase One: The Approach
This is the advance across the Fuligin Field, facing off with the forward units of Harkan's armies, including millions of Pit-monsters and the corrupted Harkanians and undead of all kinds. It will begin with the landing at the southern shores and end with the fall of the Bulyemeh and the advance over the Fields to the Worm-Scar.
- Organizing the march into the Fuligin Field - vignettes of the Alliance getting organized, 7 tokens (one per player/GM)
- Billy - Ghef'fhardim and The Queen discuss command, and she tacitly approves of him.
- Dani - The first day's march. It starts well for the prepared but not so well for the more unseasoned and disorganized troops.
- Kei - Sewael inspects her troops, defining to them their role as defenders, while mentally assessing them.
- Ian - As the Hunt prepares for battle, Prax wanders through Dream, searching for guidance as he once searched for Dream-wisdom.
- JT - Curl helps guide ships into port.
- Benjesus - A shipment of boots is missing.
- Nathan - Gustav Illyanovich arrives in the allied camp alone and unassuming, no one knows him or recognizes him, and he just walks around and talks to people--and poisons a great many of them with gift of wine (or other rations?)--casually before making formal diplomatic contact.
- Initial conflicts - the Alliance and the Enemy meet in battle in the early stages of the Field, in which old NPCs and PCs get moments, 14 tokens (two per player/GM). If we are taking up the full arc of certain NPCs, use this to introduce ONE of your chosen.
- Billy - King Suk Boon-ja flies his new banner, the Uruoese flag now with a great star in its center, as he rides into battle.
- Billy - A small, unnoticed miracle saves the life of a minor NPC leading a unit from a lesser nation.
- Dani - Aisling Caillte laughs in the face of an enemy bearing an iron weapon at her.
- Dani - A supply train is attacked and must be defended with a brave calvary charge.
- Kei - Deyn wields his ancient ailsilver saber, raising his archer corps above the lines so as to bring a rain of death upon a Harkanian unit.
- Kei - A company of scouts leads a successful strike-and-fade mission against a Harkanian unit, drawing them into an ambush.
- Ian - Nathan's dust storm below is shot through with iron filings, making it tough going for the fey contingent.
- Ian - Prax flashes back to learning about war as a child with his father, learning about rage for the first time through a historical appraisal of minotaur tactics. He returns to the present stronger, reconciled profoundly to this war. Ass is kicked.
- JT - Ledyim Lilac sneaks into battle against the recommendations of his advisers.
- JT - Arlie and the Toy help break a contingent of mages.
- Benjesus - An enemy unit surrenders to an unpopular ally.
- Benjesus - Dullahan halts his ride.
- Nathan - Fuligin dust storm
- Nathan - The initial charge of the enemy nearly frightens the front lines into retreat, but Gerrick (and Tam Lin, pending approval) holds them together. The initial morrale boost from this gives allies long-lasting momentum for the rest of the fight.
- Enemy response - the Enemy fields a huge push to try to break the Alliance early, introducing some of our lesser villains and involving the defeat of small sections of the Alliance. 7 tokens for villains, 7 tokens for defeats (1 per GM/player). At least two defeats must be caused by the Bulyemeh, which does not count as a lesser villain. Use the Armieslist to pick nationalities of units.
- Billy - The Bulyemeh decimates a Carnasan unit of splicers, whose psionic assault fails on the massive monster.
- Dani - Khanga wreaks havoc among some of the Order's troops. Dhunic forces crumple and defenders from the Desert of the Winds, the Bronccourian Church, and the Cult of the Mouth take hard hits. The Guardians are only barely able to keep her from completey devastating the last squad of Dhunic defenders.
- Kei - A sudden charge of pikemen and halbardiers throws a mounted force from The Riding into disarray, the resulting havoc from panicked and wounded horses leading to more injury among nearby Allied forces.
- Ian - The fuligin storm seems to scour away the stuff of stories, and many lesser poioumenonists begin to falter. The Clementinian contingent is hit particularly hard. Prax is forced to embrace his newfound power, and he perceives and directs the narrative flow like never before against a power that ends things before they begin.
- JT - A sandstorm that blocks out the sun, faith, and drops visibility to zero. Forces grope in the dark as the silent Bulyemeh stalks through and picks off whomever it chooses.
- Benjesus - Tom Fool finds a weak point in the alliance.
- Nathan - A giant fuligin ant-lion funnel opens up beneath an entire vanguard of more than one advancing army, who then have to work together with crackerjack timing and complete trust in each other to get out and pull back. Some don't make it of course, and even the ones who do can only pull back to a defensive position, their advance is halted. I also recommend enemy troops harry the allies as they're trying to escape the funnel, and some battles in the funnel would be really cool.
- Behind the scenes - reactions to reports from Alliance and Enemy leaders (3 Enemy tokens, 4 Alliance tokens)
- Billy -
- Dani - Reports of a fresh set of losses from the front result in the upending of an entire table of maps and markers.
- Kei - A Harkanian commander tries to convince Wei to bring the bad news to the King, and he refuses ever so politely.
- Ian - The warlocks see many of their plans (not necessarily related to ours) fall to pieces in the conflict, and several curses are let loose. None of them do much damage either way, but the warlocks themselves feel better, and begin to evaluate their policy of detachment.
- JT - After a large expenditure of power from the Nameless Vizier with no obvious target, forces start pouring in through an obvious weak point in our front lines. Our strategists struggle to figure out what has happened: who left the hole, and how to shore up our defenses. The power expended only becomes obvious on later retrospection-- the Nameless Vizier has retroactively removed a platoon from existence. No one can be sure of the true damage wrought. People on the edge of the blast radius have clear memories of being drafted into the army and living normal lives despite being born without left arms or left legs, barracks are suspiciously empty, etc.
- Benjesus - A child delivers an ultimatum from the enemy.
- Nathan - Pulling it off would necessitate a real-time in-character argument between Nathan and another player/GM: Angela Murray, Gerrick Mac Boon, and Tam Lin vs. a lesser fae queen have a falling out on how to proceed. If it leads to a divided effort, a rivalry, or something else, it could up the dramatic tension.
- The Bulyemeh cripples the Allied advance until something draws it back. Anyone may decide what that something is.
- Token - The World Tree pierces the desert around the Pit with roots, seeding the it with life, albeit not strongly yet. No one who sees this incursion can doubt that she will win this fight or die.
- The Outcroppings - the Alliance pushes through the forward bases of the Enemy at various Fuligin Outcroppings, though they take heavy losses. 14 tokens, 2 per player/GM. One of these Outcroppings will hold the Hollow Child of Undeath. A major NPC will die here.
- Billy - A major NPC dies facing the Hollow Child of Undeath, but the Hollow Child is destroyed in the following onslaught.
- Billy - Bluebird Hrielle commands a host of strange and dangerous undead against a major NPC.
- Dani - A trap is sprung in a narrow pass between two Outcroppings.
- Dani - A particular bloody battle sees the Alliance battered but victorious until white moths start to crawl out of the mouths of the fallen enemies.
- Kei - The hatred from the enemy grows to be too much for Shara's new Gift-given sense, leaving her momentarily incapacitated until she can push through it.
- Kei - Avery/Nimbleford scouts the base of a major Outcropping, discovering an entrance that allows Allied forces to route it.
- Ian - Bramiel flanks the Hunt with undead hunters of his own. An aerial clash erupts, and Mara Tslea leaps from her mount to strike at him.
- Ian - Sli attends the death of the major NPC, breaking from the Hunt to do so.
- JT - Noraqqalmud sacrifices several of those dying around him to demons. When confronted, he explains that death by demon is better than death by fuligin, especially if it can save someone else's life.
- JT - Viollca's gifted blood to burn spectral undead fails in a random zone where Gifts malfunction. She has to fall back to undeath magic to emerge unscathed.
- Benjesus - Rhomara makes an interesting discovery about the fuligin-rich environment.
- Benjesus - Nas takes action for the first time since arriving at Starfall.
- Nathan - Mudpie uses himself as bait with Prax backing him.
- Nathan - Tamlin saves Gerrick's life as he tries a high-risk-high-yield gambit.
- Mudpie faces and defeats the Bulyemeh
Notes:
- Pit-monster horde
1 Wei, the Agikaani ambassador to Harkanheim 1
Wei, the Agikaani ambassador to Harkanheim 1 The Bulyemeh
- The Hollow Child of Undeath
Phase Two: Battle of the Worms
This is the battle for the Worms of Law between Da'sabash/Khal'maqua and Lilith. It involves a huge battle of armies as the struggle goes on for the Worms, which will allow use of faith in the Fuligin Field if controlled by your allies. It will begin with the clashing of armies and end with the victory over Lilith, who shall escape.
- Billy will introduce the Worms of Law and Lilith in a Behind the Scenes vignette.
- The Alliance advances to the Worm-Scar, a portion of the Fuligin Field with gullies and ridges caused by worms. During the advance, they face the remnants of the forward units of the Enemy. Vignettes of established villains pulling back or dying, introduction of new villains. Vignettes of minor NPCs. (14 tokens, 2 per player/GM)
- Billy - Tecumseh leads the charge against Bluebird's retreating host.
- Billy - A minor but named NPC gets lost in the gullies and has to be guided out by distant allied farseers.
- Dani - Red Cloaks must pass over a gully with a precarious crossing whilst under heavy fire, while leaving no man behind.
- Dani - The Worms of Law devour an entire squadron which does not take precautions to hide their movements on the sands.
- Kei - A large wave of undead meet blazing defeat - almost literally - at the hands of Maraddonian mages.

- Ian - A fortuitous cave-in saves someone important.
- JT - Noraqqalmud calls out Alianean warriors there out hypocrites.

- Benjesus - A group of allied soldiers is sent back to the landing point.
- Nathan - Mudpie (and Prax?) hunts the creature from the ant-lion vignette.
- Nathan - Gustav lures Gerrick and Tam Lin into a deadly cat and mouse game, Gerrick teaches Tam Lin the mentality of a Troublemaker.

- Billy - A major NPC is caught between a large Pit-monster and a spectral undead, and must choose which s/he will face.
- Dani - The Hunt routes out an enemy platoon from a deep gully and forces them to a timely craggy death.
- Kei - Shara is cornered by a fuligin-seared undead and uses the Bennu Feather quill to prove the old adage that the pen is mightier than the Sword, though she does not escape unscathed.
- Ian - Prax tries to intuit the course of the worm, but his poioumenon can't seem to predict it -- with bad results for Mudpie.
- JT - Sand wraiths rip through the troops, converting our forces into spectral undead while they are cut off from their faith.
- Benjesus - Dullahan prevents a disaster from turning into a catastrophe.
- Nathan - Mudpie faces the worm, but something it does "injures" him, lessening his power/abilities, and it escapes him. He won't heal without using blasphemy.
- Behind the scenes - Alliance and Enemy. (4 Enemy tokens, 3 Alliance)
- Billy - See No Evil Hear No Evil Speak No Evil contemplates his own identity as he sits blinded by the order and structure of the calm camp. He waits for the chaos of battle to return his vision, and he "sees" with his psionics, taking stock of the dispositions of various commanders.
- Dani - The Grey Army commander has had enough. He tells Rosamonde to depart with her undead batallion.
- Kei - Jheshimirath offers an ear and advice to a concerned Ghef'fhardim.

- JT - An unfortunate lackey has a conversation with the Nameless Vizier-- their name and identity slowly erodes during the conversation.
- Benjesus - A being of cosmic power asks Ennasrion a difficult question.

- Worm-Gullies - the Alliance gets some footing in the Worm-Scar by scouring encampments of the Enemy. Vignettes of NPCs and PCs and villains. 14 tokens, 2 per.
- Billy - The Erlking and Tam Lin banter as they lead a group of hunters into an encampment, frustrating the Dollmaker.
- Billy - King Suk Boon-ja's recklessness gets his best commander killed, leaving him without his trusted adviser, lost, bereft in the encampment with everyone looking to him not just for inspiration, but for command.
- Dani - Katha'ane leads the Manifests' bodyguard in an attack which gets him cut off from his charges.
- Dani - The fey armies use an enormous joint glamour to amazing effect and victory over a stubborn enemy holdout in the Worm Scar.
- Kei - Avery and Madra frighten an enemy holdout straight into a waiting band of Tara'hinian forces thanks to Madra's terror-inducing bark.

- Da'sabash and Khal'maqua find the secret to commanding the Worms of Law in the ruins of a temple found in a cave beneath a Worm-Gully (7 tokens)
- Billy - The temple's altar is found to be stained with the blood of an apostate priest. Writings found there indicate this was once a holy temple, taken over by the Cult of Rejection, the Blasphemers, and that they were a doomsday cult that predicted and welcomed Starfall. Within the cathedral rests a huge Pit-monster, and the secret of the Wormsong that can defeat Lilith's control of the Worms.
