Back in the 1800s, when industry was starting to get big, companies were buying industrial lots all over the city, wherever they could. Rich folks, of course, complained, and soon, the city leaders, caught between two sources of income, compromised: they set aside areas south of Burzene, east of Highway 22, and southwest of Glimmer Avenue, within the city limits, as an industrial park. Named for Charles Cambridge Winchester, the richest industrialist, in Belle Point, it is a sprawling, factory- and warehouse-laden expanse of filth and hard work. Many went out of business in the Stock Market Crash, and now much of it lies abandoned.
