| History | Once upon a time, a man named Turturan sat atop a hill, seeking to balance himself upon a tiny stone, such that he would never tire. As he sat in a meditative trance, seeking, with his foot, to attain balance, a vagabond chanced upon him. The vagabond snorted derisively at the monk's futile efforts & pushed him, gently from the stone. "Geroff, sonny, lemme show ya how it's done," he growled. The monk, awakened fully, stood back & watched as the vagabond stepped lightly onto the stone, then knelt into a crouch, sitting in perfect balance atop the pebble. The monk watched for hours as the vagabond kept the position & spoke. The vagabond told him, in the end, three things: Balance is never found sitting in one spot. In order to remain balanced, one must both succeed & fail. Balance is made of everything. Turturan took these ideas to heart & began to walk, seeking the balance the vagabond had shown him. Over time, he gained followers, other monks who sought their own goals, an end to a Path that they walked. To each, Turturan taught the lessons the vagabond had taught him, but each took the lessons in their own way. In the end, the Walkers of the Path became a pantheistic order of monks that wandered the world, seeking challenges on their Path. |
