Description Viciouses appear to be large (7' upright), hunched, muscular, anthropomorphic figures with red flesh, massive jaws and fangs, heavy claws, and bleeding sockets for eyes. Their tongues are about two feet long and drag on the ground.
Procreation Viciouses are abominations formed by forbidden blood rituals. They are average mortals infused with baleblood and then tortured into a frenzy and unleashed.
Esoterica Viciouses are beings of baleblood and arnum. They are constantly in a state of rage that gives them enormous strength and power. Their minds are a haze of anger and they are unable to use any other esoteric powers.
Special Powers Viciouses feed off blood. If they were undead, they would be considered vampires, but they are tragically alive. They have enormous supernatural strength and speed, and their vision (esoteric as it is, since they have no eyes) allows them to see emotions in a sort of infrared-esque manner. They seek to feed off those with intense emotions, which fuels the baleblood within them. If they do not feed often enough, they "cool down" and die. If they feed too much, they burst into flames and explode. In order to keep from exploding, they sometimes bite their own tongues and spit burning baleblood in a massive, fiery stream. If they can maintain a balance (though they never really can, as the baleblood will grow stronger as it is fed), they will live forever. From a practical standpoint, they usually end up living a few months.
Weaknesses If they do not feed, they die. If they feed too much, they explode.
Maleficing To create a vicious, one needs five ounces of baleblood and a means of injecting it into someone. Once a person is injected, they are provoked into attacking someone, who will then physically beat them, hold them down, and inscribe either their own Name or the Name of one potent with baleblood into the victim. To (esoterically) control a vicious, one must either have that Name to wield, or they must draw blood from the vicious and use that blood in a rite that mixes the blood with the blood of an animal recently butchered. The heart of that animal is then burned as a Name of power is chanted to give the caster power over the target. To summon a vicious, one must make a circle of blood, put either the Name used to create the vicious or a part of any vicious in the circle, or put the heart of a loved one within it, and invoke either the original Name or another Name of power.
Culture

Most viciouses exist as servants to powerful followers of the God of the Horde, Beadu Feriend. The Horde has special mystics who create the viciouses from captured enemies or slaves, tend them as if they were animals, and unleash them during battles. They are treated as dangerous animals, like war dogs or explosive angry bulls, and used only when necessary. They are one of the most feared weapons of the Horde.

There are, however, a handful of viciouses who have escaped and formed their own small bands in the rocklands of Wymmera. These bands vary greatly. They have vague memories of what they were before they were transformed, and sometimes this influences their behavior. Some seek to return to their homes for a while, but almost all of them come to the conclusion that this would be dangerous for their former loved ones. They call themselves "the Regretful," and they dwell in remote caves in the lower mountains. There, they hunt animals for food and work out the right balance of blood so that they may live without fear of explosion or cool down.

The Regretful take in newly escaped viciouses when they find them. One of the viciouses will take the new one in and teach them how to balance themselves, help them through the process of giving up on going home, and teach them the ways of the band. The process usually takes about six weeks. Once a new vicious is calmed, so to speak, they are welcomed into the band in a small ceremony and feast, and then they take up a different role among them: hunter, ritual leader, storyteller, tender, and crafters.

Hunters are vital to the band. Because viciouses need fresh blood to live, their hunters must learn to capture animals alive to bring back for all to eat. They also serve as scouts and lookouts for the band, as the Horde will try to re-capture them if they are found, and other beings will try to exterminate them. Ritual leaders are their religious leaders. Storytellers are the ones with the best memories of what life was before, and they tell these tales after each feeding to help calm the viciouses. And tenders are the ones who are a mix to healers, cleaners, and butchers. They treat the wounds of the hunters, clean the caves, and prepare the captured animals for eating, opening their throats and gathering blood in special bowls. To make the blood more potent, they torment and terrify the captured prey first. Crafters are the ones who make the bowls and other small crafts that the band needs to survive, including weapons and tools. They take the hides and bones of the animals, the feathers and claws, and they use them to make what is needed.

The leader of the hunters is effectively the leader of the band. There is no process for deciding upon a leader. It is usually the eldest of them, but generally, the one who is best at hunting and leading rises to the top.

Because baleblood progressively gets stronger as it is fed, eventually, all viciouses begin to lose control of themselves when not even the storytellers will calm them. Upon seeing this start, either the vicious will realize it and remove themself from the band, or the band will intervene and kill them. Those who remove themselves will kill themselves by jumping off tall rocks, unless they lose control first. An out-of-control vicious will become a wild animal and hunt and kill until it explodes. These are called wild ones.

As abominations, they lose all physical capability of sex and emotional capability of love. Gender, sexual intercourse, and romance lose all meaning, but they do form bonds with one another, one of mutual survival.

Religion The religion of those viciouses enslaved by the Horde is generally the religion of TheBaleful. The Regretful have their own view of things, however. Though there are variations between bands, the general idea is that Beadu Feriend created the baleblood which defines them, and thus, he is responsible for their agonized existence. He is hated, but in hating them, they empower him. So instead, they try desperately to forgive him and honor him, in order to one day see him dead. Every band ends up with a ritual leader who helps them cope with having baleblood, and this person becomes the one who guides them in forgiveness and worship, leading sacrifices, funerals (which are seen as offerings), and guiding the storytellers in finding new memories to share.
Notables Yutaugat, Vicious Manifest, the Red Hunter in the Rocks;
Mortal Interactions The Horde views all viciouses as property. Those who escape are viewed as lost property or stolen property. Other nations view viciouses as dangerous animals and seek to avoid or kill them. It is extremely rare that a vicious is seen as anything but a threat to others.

When enraged, their physical stats go up +1 per round and their mental stats go down -1 every other round. After feeding, they gain +1/-1 to all stats for an hour per pint of blood devoured. If their WIL or AWA hits 0 because of feeding, they explode. If they are calmed between pints, they lose the adjustment and may feed again safely. If they do not feed once per day, they lost -1 to all stats until they hit 0 and die of "cooling." As time progresses, their bonus/penalty from feeding grows until a single feeding will kill them. This is about +1/-1 per every six weeks unless mitigated.
