| Description | At birth, all dragons look like large, pink worms. At maturity, dragons grow to be massive, red scaled, seven headed beasts with ten horns. Some are more hardened dragons with only two massive horns and one massive tauroid head. |
| Procreation | Dragons mate with each other only. Without intense supernatural interference, half-dragons are an impossibility. Dragons lay one to three eggs at a time. Upon hatching, a dragon immediately begins absorbing background energies. All dragon eggs are filled with pure, liquid draconic energy, which sustains the baby dragon upon hatching. |
| Esoterica | Vermilion dragons have absorbed immense amounts of Damaskian power and belligerent emotional energy. Other shebvic powers are common, as are any aetherial energies (especially rubedian, earthpower, and white tiger essence), rending, arnum, kor, nommic energy, hegnh, divine energies, mana, muscle, flesh, and spirit. Other powers are rarer. |
| Special Powers | Dragons gain new powers as they accumulate more energies. At each stage of growth, they gain a new ability, usually culminating with the twelfth ability when they accumulate . The usual progression of powers is as follows:
All dragons accumulate energies by absorbing them naturally from the area around them. As such, they must carefully cultivate their lairs to provide the right kinds of energies, hence they hoard appropriate objects. Other common powers include arrow rain, Damaskian fire breath, enraging gaze, instill strength, crushing force, tactical analysis, and multiply self. |
| Alternate Forms | Vermilion dragons prefer to take the form of a minotaur, ursian, toell, or gual'bran if they have need to be smaller. |
| Weaknesses | Serenity emotional energy will debilitate them. |
| Subspecies | War dragons or horned or bull dragons are dragons who are pure Damaskian energy or close to it. They have the tauroid form with only two horns and one head, but they are much more fierce than their brethren. Their breath weapon is always Damaskian fire, which keeps burning til the target cannot fight. They are unharmable by anything but powerful esoteric attacks, and they understand strategy instincitively. |
| Culture | Vermilion dragons live in the rocky, volcanic ranges of Zulshirea in Palhur, where they have small fiefdoms ruled by individual warlords. They compete fiercely over resources in an arid, barren realm, and demand respect and fear from their followers. They do not mind following more powerful or skilled dragons, and small militaristic groups often form unions in nearby regions. They lay their eggs in a communal volcanic pool, where a group of elite warriors protects and raises the young, training and feeding them. Every year, vermilion dragons compete in small local tourneys to determine who is the greatest warrior amongst their military communities, and who is the greatest tactician. The latter becomes leader, the former is their bodyguard. If they are compatible, they usually mate. Mating between other vermilion dragons must be approved by a superior if there is one, but is rarely rejected. They mate practically, choosing partners that complement them in battle. Vermilion dragons have large non-draconic armies that serve them and help them gather hoards. These armies are made up of local mortals, and their allegiance to the dragon varies by dragon, but is usually bought via treasure-sharing or garnered out of respect and fear. When a vermilion dragon grows old, they usually start picking fights with greater and greater foes until they die in battle. |
