Dwelling in the swamps of Ansulym during the Age of Destruction, Urugal had a nigh mindless existence trapping travelers and swamp-fishers until industry men from nearby chemical plants came to him with an offer: he helps them deal with spies and other nuisances and they would provide him with luxuries and extra pleasures.
As the time passed, the chemicals they deposited in the swamps began to affect Urugal dramatically. He began to get sick, despite the enormous resistance in him, and have strange visions and seizures. He went back to the industry men and asked that they help him. Knowing that killing him would only force them to have to retrain a new fixer, and not fixing it would likely lead him to expose them their secrets to those who could use those against them, they decided instead to make him stronger.
They took him in and used all sorts of chemicals on him, magical and otherwise, making him into a monster of pollution and filth, waste and sewerage. He became an unstoppable force in the swamps until the Champions of Goodness started winning ground nearby in an early surge of the war. He had real challenges in facing their agents, and had to keep being healed or improved to keep up. Knowing that he would be forced into a situation soon that would leave him dead or unable to move, they decided to send him off to the Mountain, at the behest of the Champion of Pestilence, where he would become a truly powerful force of filth and pollution.
He was transported by helicopter in a large container and dropped off in the Taggaran jungles with five handlers who helped him to the Mountain. Once there, he oozed his way up with little trouble, and came down the Champion of Filth, at which point he made the industry men his servants and slaves, choosing only the lead scientists as his Servitors, and declared himself their new leader.
He built a complex in the Ansulymic swamps covered in his own slime and choked the life out of most of the area, using science and magic to become even more powerful. Then, he began courting the Champions of Terror for alliances, making deals with Hollow Jack and the Champion of Destruction, and making enemies of Genfyllid and Gabriel in the process. Now, he keeps a small factory or two on Shem and spends most of his time in the Catacombs.

Urugal appears to be a 12' tall vaguely manshaped mass of greenish-black ooze, though he can, with effort, return to the shape of an ooze covered aluvar.
