Ursians appear to be anthropomorphic bears. They are huge, about 9' tall, with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, and non-retractable claws. There are 16 breeds: honey, moon, black, polar, Palhuric, brown, grizzly, cave, spectacled, titanic, panda, great, minor, vermilion, draconic, and storm. Their appearances vary as follows: Honey ursians: sickle claws, round ears, stout snouts, smaller bodies (6'), dark black or brown fur, short sleek fur, orange-yellow horseshoe markings on chest, orange-yellow muzzle and eyes.- Moon ursians: not to be confused with tsukikuma, which live on the moon, moon bears are normal bears with a white V on their chests. Otherwise, they are normal black bears.
- Black ursians: broad, narrow muzzled, greyish claws, black bodies that can be bluish or even white, short claws.
- Polar ursians: huge (10'), white, elongated bodies, smaller ears and tails, yellowing with age, black noses.
- Palhuric ursians: huge (9'7"), blond, orange, or dark brown in color. Cubs are born with white natal neck rings that fade as they age.
- Brown ursians: big bodied, curved claws, long manes, long thick fur, reddish brown with silver tips to yellow-brown with white capes to dark brown with cream or yellow-brown hilights.
- Grizzly ursians: subset of brown ursians, they are simply bigger at 9'6".
- Cave ursians: massive (11') brown ursians.
- Spectacled ursian: short faces with beige face markings and upper chest markings.
- Titanic ursians: brownish black, thicker bodies, shorter (7').
- Panda ursians: very rare, black eye patches, white and black bodies.
- Great ursians: shorter (7'), black furred, broad faces, glowing white eyes.
- Minor ursians: slender, shorter (7'), brown furred, narrow faces, glowing green eyes, long tails.
- Vermilion ursians: tall (9'7") with red fur and nubby horns.
- Draconic ursians: misnamed, hairless ursians with sharper claws.
- Storm ursians: greenish-blue furred ursians with flashing yellow eyes.

Ursians are very, very strong. They can run quickly if they need to, climb very well, and swim with some skill. Their sense of smell is perhaps the finest in the world. Some ursians can enter a quasi-hibernative state. They tend to use their massive strength to engage victims in bear hugs in battle, crushing them. Their bile can invigorate a person. Other breeds have extra powers:
- Honey ursians: sharper claws, sun-favored.
- Moon ursians: best climbers, nightvision.
- Black ursians: very dexterous, surefooted, lazy, always know directions, connected to spirits.
- Polar ursians: cold resistant, best swimmers, respectful reputations, magical teeth.
- Palhuric ursians: cold resistant, intimidating voice.
- Brown ursians: the standard ursian.
- Grizzly ursians: fishing skills, connected to spirits.
- Cave ursians: nightvision, dominating presence.
- Spectacled ursian: better than average vision, skilled climbing.
- Titanic ursians: friendlier, control over common bears.
- Panda ursians: friendlier, charismatic.
- Great ursians: always know which way north is, connected to spirits.
- Minor ursians: always know which way north is, vanish at will 9 times/day.
- Vermilion ursians: excellent prowess, nubby horns, berzerking.
- Draconic ursians: excellent prowess, weaker armor, greater will power.
- Storm ursians: weather resistant, stealthier.

Ursians live solitary lives, usually, except when raising families. They are great warriors, and they tend to try to teach their children to be as well by forcing harsh conditions upon them at an early age. They have great respect for their forefathers, verging on worship. Cultural variations by breed:
- Honey ursians: Honey ursians live on Dabusen and trained the early warriors there strategy.
- Moon ursians: Moon ursians also live on Dabusen and trained the early warriors there tactics.
- Black ursians: Black ursians live on Palhur and are very territorial warriors. The women are very strong, and the men are very enamored of them, focusing their lives on finding the perfect mate. They are very spiritual people, and they are known for their honoring of the sun especially. They are honorable and proud. They love honey.
- Polar ursians: Polar ursians have a more brutal reputation than other breeds. They are actually very friendly, though, and they are not at all territorial. They spend a lot of time at sea, hunting, and love to share. They put a great value on gratitude. They live in igloos on Cassaru.
- Palhuric ursians: Palhuric ursians live far to the south, in the subantaltic climes. They are hardy warriors who control wide swaths of territory and demand tribute from lesser folk near them.
- Brown ursians: Very common, normal ursians. The brown ursians are strong warriors who have little loyalties except to their own clans.
- Grizzly ursians: Grizzly ursians are the hardened veterans to the brown ursians' common soldier.
- Cave ursians: The rare cave ursians are treated as gods by many primitive peoples who live near them, if such live nearby. Their solitary lives are spent finding ways to rule and conquer. They live on Ansulym.
- Spectacled ursian: Living in the Island Bridge, spectacled ursians are adapted to island life, living sedate existences amongst the tropical rainforests.
- Titanic ursians: The titanic ursians are very rare Taggaran ursians whom have folded into other Taggaran societies, for the most part.
- Panda ursians: Panda ursians only live in the bamboo forests of Unbuloo, guarding their mundane antecedents.
- Great ursians: Great ursians live in the Forests of Genesis, guarding the World Tree.
- Minor ursians: Minor ursians live in the Forests of Genesis, guarding the forests.
- Vermilion ursians: Vermilion ursians are said to be the original ursians. They live in clans in Maskovy on Ranu, alongside the brown ursians, and are known to be invincible warriors who keep to themselves.
- Draconic ursians: Draconic ursians live in Kren'atan on Palhur, near dragon ranges. They are known for their aesthetic lifestyles.
- Storm ursians: Storm ursians live on Ailanea and tend to be savage loners living by the coasts.
